- In today's video, I show you how to fit a western saddle to a horse. Making sure your saddle fits is vital to your horse's health and overall wellbeing, as a ill fitting saddle can cause pain, as well as behavioral issues in the horse. I hope you enjoy!
Gosh I kept hearing a weird noise and I finally realized it’s a chicken. Great video by the way.
Haha! Our chickens can get pretty loud 😂
Great information for those without a professional fitter in their area 🙂 Proper fitting tack is SO important!!
Excellent video so informative best video I've seen on TH-cam so helpful.
So well communicated! Tank you!
Thank you so much for this video!! Very helpful
Yay! So glad to hear it. 💗
I found this really helpful! Especially the diagrams that you flashed. I took some screenshots and saved them in my notes app along with some of the other tips you mentioned. Thank you so much! (Loved hearing (what sounded like) a chicken groaning in the background 😂)
Thank you! Perfectly thorough.😍
This was very helpful. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Thanks so much for this video! I'm going out to check the fit of my saddle on my horse right now!
So happy to help! I know saddle fitting can be a confusing topic at times. Have a great day!
Thank you for this very informative demonstration 👌⭐️
I do have two short back horses & both ASH X QH
I have had trouble fitting my 8yr old mare as she has a higher wither and large shoulders
So true how the body changes
Thank you again 😊😊
So glad to have helped! Saddle sitting can often times be difficult, so the more info you have the better. Best of luck in finding a good fitting saddle, & thanks for commenting!
@@HumbleHeartHorsemanship I have found a saddle that fits them very Well
Met the saddler from Newmarket saddlery , Wayne over in Cudal NSW
He was so very informative
Bring a horseman as well
& he’s been in the buisness 53years and sure does know about saddle fit
🙌😊
Very helpful!
Thankyou so much for this! I was wondering if a really thick saddle pad could help the pressure points at the withers, as i bought a new saddle but its quite small on the end of the skirt and withers and puts quite a bit of pressure on the them especially the withers!
Nice video , thanks for the information , gretings from Venezuela 👍👍👍
Thanks 😊 This was very informative 🤓👍
Very helpful. Thank you!😊
Excellent info. Helped me a lot.
Excellent information and presentation. Thanks 😊
Very helpful video.
TY very much !!!
Very informative, thank you!
Great information. Good horse. 😊
I do have a question though. My horse is sort of new to me and I have been working with a trainer with him. My biggest concern about him is how he acts (sometimes) right before I get on him. He acts like he wants to bite me. Like he’s telling me no. I’m going to do all the things you showed me today but if it isn’t the saddle what else could it be? Once I do get up on him he’s usually fine. I have a lot of fine tuning to do on him but getting up on him is my biggest challenge. I am an older rider and I will not tolerate being bucked off. If you have any suggestions for me please do tell.
Thanks so much. 😊
Great video
Great video! Very helpful!
Thanks for this video, I just purchased a quarter horse draft class, I thought he was wide but I think the white satellite bought is too wide for him, it seems to fit in the front but pops up in the back even before I sit in it, advise?
Does the synthetic cause trapped heat on the horse?
I just wanted to let you know that you just answered my question. I was riding my colt in my Abeta saddle, which was fitting fine. He lost some weight and now it wobbles. Interesting that this is an indication that the saddle is too wide. Good to know.
Glad the video helped! Our horse's bodies are always changing through different stages of their lives, similar to people. Always good to check the fit once or twice a year. Thanks for commenting! 💗
Watch Dry Creek Wrangler School saddle placement. Very informative, many people saddling wrong, including me. Not taking into account concho should be behind scapula
I'll look into it! Thanks!
Can you do a video about what kinds of pads you would use? Thick, thin etc
I absolutely can, great idea! Thanks
Very good video. Thank you. The only thing I missed was any mention of the bars in relation to the front shoulder. Is that something you considered when putting the saddle on. Or is space between withers and bottom of pomel more important? I was taught to keep the bars just behind the shoulder muscle.
Hi, yes the saddle should definetly be placed behind the shoulders to allow for the shoulder to move freely without being constrained.
So if I have a FQHB 7” and it’s tight exactly where your horses is and can fit 3 fingers in the gullet, what size would my horse need essentially?
How thick is the saddle pad you are using?
I think my saddle pinched a little at my pony’s shoulder I am using a 3/4 pad should I get a thinner one? I had a dry spot left and right shoulder
Question for you, when you add a saddle pad under the saddle should the mounting test still work? For instance if it works without the saddle pad should it still work with the saddle pad?
No, I wouldn't try the mounting test w/a saddle pad under it, doesn't work the same. Plus would cause the saddle to be more slipper/defeating the test of it. Hope that makes sense! 😉
Get a standard saddle and add pads as needed. Don't waist your money trying to find the perfect saddle for your horse. Cowboys that work multiple horses for long periods use one saddle no matter the horse they ride. Not everyone's has or wants to spend money to buy saddles for each horse
Not if they're good horsemen. When you know better, you should do better.
