Democracy was granted, but capitalism has not worked for the majority of Mongolians. But it is understandable that the students of 1990 were fooled into thinking that capitalism was the solution to the failed Stalinist model. What Mongolia today needs is a party for working class people on a socialist platform, that calls for a society under control of those who do the actual work. Mongolia under capitalism has resulted in 28.4% of Mongolians living below the poverty line (2018 figures) and another 15% are at risk of living in it. That means that live under a market economy does not work well for many. The alternative to capitalism is socialism, not the social democratic model or the failed Stalinist system.
You seem to have omitted some things from your "source" relevant to this discussion, let me refresh your memory. "The nation has tripled its GDP since 1991 with help from international groups and smart government investments. Healthcare industries have seen a massive improvement, with Mongolia seeing declines in maternal and child mortality rates. The government has also instituted various programs to help people out of poverty in Mongolia and raise the general standard of living. " - borgenproject "POVERTY IN MONGOLIA: 5 FAST FACTS" With that said, would you really say the system does not work? You seem to conveniently forget to mention this and allude that switching to a socialist system would somehow fix everything.
Good job! Now that we are facing more CCP's economic and political influence in Mongolia we need to remember where we were 30 years ago. The feelings are the same but I hope we can find peaceful unity once more. It is always wonderful to see beautiful bridges like yours built across democratic countries. Thank you!
Actually the USSR collapsed in 1991. The Democratic Revolution of Mongolia was in 1990 (although protests began December 1989). Besides the protesters being influenced by Gorbachev's Glasnost, Ts. Elbegdorj was also inspired by Ronald Reagan's "Evil Empire" speech about the USSR, and when he was the Mongolian president, kept a photo of Reagan in his office.
This is really interesting
