Thanks for the double sided sign idea. Brilliant! If I may, I have a tip to share as well: Use cheep transfer vinyl for stencils instead of the more expensive colored vinyl. You'll save a tone of money if you make a lot of signs. New SUB here for sure!
With stencils you can paint the base color first (white) then go in with your font color! It seals any gaps in the stencil and leaves a nice clean line🎉🎉🎉😍
In a couple of my other videos I cover this: th-cam.com/video/aF5efwfySGk/w-d-xo.html and th-cam.com/video/DqM_gPf0OcA/w-d-xo.html I have also shared some templates and designs on my blog: aroundthehouse1.wordpress.com/free-cricut-designs/ Enjoy!
Thanks for the question Jackie. I buy a large sheet of plywood and cut it down to size on the table saw. You can also use a straight edge and a circular saw. For the trim pieces I use 1x2’s and cut them to size with a miter saw. This video shows the process, just a little different frame th-cam.com/video/e1G1phBrIwU/w-d-xo.html. I’ll try to get a new video showing it all soon 😀
Thank you..i can't wait for the next one.. When you get a chance make one showing how you set up it in the computer and where you find if any pix or illustrations?
Great question Octavia. I used my Bostitch 18 gage nailer. Also make sure you use wood glue as well to hold on the frame. I didn't in this video and 6 months later the frames started coming loose on some of these signs so now I always use wood glue.
Yes, you definitely need to have him make you some. You’re going to have so much fun with the Cricut. I’m not sure what font I used but you can have the image free on my blog aroundthehouse1.wordpress.com/free-cricut-designs/
Thanks so much for the question Karen. I didn't know what these were either a year ago. You can find project panels in the plywood area at Lowes or Home Depot. They are plywood but just smaller. So most plywood is sold 4 ft by 8 ft. The project panels come in 2 ft by 2 ft and 2 ft by 4 ft. So just smaller and easier to handle. 😊
I love all of this!! and I have so many questions for you! what kind of vinyl and transfer tape do you use. that transfer tape peeled right of without pulling the vinyl with it! Also what nail gun are you using and what size of nails? if you don't mind me asking. Thanks!!
Hi Kara thanks for asking. I just linked all the supplies I use in the video description. I’ve tried a lot of transfer paper and vinyl and I now only use the ones I listed because I had problems with others. I forgot to link to the gun and nails I use and will do that soon. I use a Bostitch 18 gauge Brad nailer with 1inch nails. Make sure your nails are just slightly larger than your frame boards. If you have to long of nails they run the risk of curving and coming out the front of your sign. Please let me know if you have any more questions and have fun making signs 😊
Good question, for the long boards I use my 12 x 24" vinyl. I varied the sizing depending on how it looked best, making sure to leave enough room on the edges to show a bit of a white around it.
You were great!!! Sorry... that was sarcasm... just teasing hon, referring to your own comment about going fast. I thought you were easy to follow. 😊Looking forward to more of your vids.
Most the the stencils made from the Cricut are one time use. These machines are not made to cut heavy duty anything. Better off going to Amazon and buying what you need....save some $$$$
Loved this video! i’ve been trying to find the font you used for “Joyful” but i can’t find it at all. Is there any other similar font you could recommend? Also, what color and brand paint did you use for the Joyful sign?
I love this font and haven’t found any like it. It’s Southwest-short on Cricut. I also updated my descriptions to link to the products I used, thanks for asking as I’m sure others wanted to know as well. Happy building 😊
sara ochoa no problem. The 3 rectangular plywood pieces are 7 3/4 H x 23 3/4 W. The 2 squares are 12 x 12. The tall rectangular one is 23 3/4 H x 11 W. All measurements are inches. Please let me know if you have any more questions. 😊
Which kind of vinyl did you use? I recently got a cricut and starting experimenting because I’ve always hand written all my signs. I used a Oracal 651 to put my stencil on my board but it peaked some paint off.
Aracely See oh you have more skills than me, I could never freehand 😊. I just use this from Amazon and haven’t had any issues. Hope it works for you. www.amazon.com/dp/B01HEB3UNQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_KjYJCbK0XRVAC
Aracely See, just a suggestion, but 651 is permanent vinyl and that’s why you’re paint is coming off with your vinyl. Try using 631 which is removable.
For the JOYFUL I used "Southwest - Short". I bought the Thankful font off Etsy and use it all the time. It isn't there anymore, however this one is really close www.etsy.com/listing/748066603/digital-font-calligraphy-handwritten?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=&ref=sc_gallery-1-1&plkey=ae9f86dd5f511ea58c7f0edcaccdbaa512dc65b2%3A748066603
I haven't hung any my reversible signs because of that. There didn't seem to be a good spot to put a hanger. If you get creative and find a way please email me a picture, I'd love to see :) aroundthehouse1@outlook.com
Angela Hatch thanks Angela. For painting the board I really like Rustoleum Linen. I used Rustoleum Onyx for the black signs but it doesn’t look the best after sanding, so I need to try a few things. For the stencil painting my favorite is Folk Art Home Decor Chalk but I’ve also had success with Americana Decor Chalky Finish and you can find it at Home Depot. Have fun making signs 😊

Valerie Goss good question. It’s just a 2ft x 4ft plywood sheet found at any hardware store. I used 1/2in thickness but 3/4in would work great too and would be easier to nail into w/o risk of the nail missing the plywood. Hope that helps. 😊
Thank you for sharing! I keep thinking about having a sign painting party with my friends too. Did you paint the frames first with dark walnut and then with the briarsmoke stain, or did you mix the two stains together and paint once?
Vickie P Yay! You totally need to throw a sign party. It’s super easy and your friends will love it. I actually used briarsmoke on some and dark walnut on others. I didn’t double them up or mix them. Have a great time 😊
For these I used either 1x2's out of common board from HD or I may have bought a 1x10 common board and ripped it down on the table saw to the same size as 1x2's. Sorry can't remember. I'm not sure if HD kiln dries these. Hope that helps.
I cut these to fit so you will want to cut the plywood first and then cut the 1x2's to fit the plywood. The sides should be the same height as the plywood and the top and bottom will be about 1 inch longer than the width of the plywood.
This is great!!! Love it! You could save yourself some time and give yourself a little more design freedom if you used a template tool. Just a suggestion. :) Emmy Braxtly
George Hellion every project requires tools. This one requires a saw to cut the wood and a Cricut. If you don’t have a Cricut you can purchase vinyls from Etsy or for less waste you can paint without a stencil. This is definitely a DIY.

Love the 2-side sign and that you don’t have to store it away. Thanks for the great idea.
Yes that has saved me so much storage space 😀
Very helpful greatly appreciated I really want to have a go now! I will add it to my things to make list!
So glad to hear it! Happy building this year, please let me know how it goes 😊

Hello from Malaysia
Thank you, so fun to meet builders in Malaysia 😀
Great ideas. Do you remember which font the thankful word is?
Sadly I don’t but I have the image saved on my blog for you to use aroundthehouse1.wordpress.com/free-cricut-designs/
Nice sign boards.. any idea i can buy ready made wood boards. ?? I don’t want to do cutting work!!
Can you do a cricut video on how you did these?
I sure will. I am also going to create a blog soon so you can just download the images I make and use them.
I finally got to the cricut video. I'll get a few more out soon. Hope it's what you were looking for. th-cam.com/video/aF5efwfySGk/w-d-xo.html
Making these signs double sided is brilliant! New sub 👍🏻❤️ Happy Holidays!
Thank you 😀
Hi im new here , so just wanted to know if you have a finished coat or varnish after the lettering so that it does not fade or peel?
Great question. I use spray on polyurethane now. The signs didn’t peal however when they got dirty it was impossible to clean them.
i love to craft
Hello What type of nail gun is that?
Loved it. I have a few questions. For example do you cut your own wood? And can you make an instructional video how to set up.

Dblood85 awe, thanks for the support 😁
Can you use acrylic paint for painting the words or do you have to use chalk paint?
I’m sure you could use any paint. But you may have to use different techniques to make sure it doesn’t seep under your stencil.
Do you share anywhere what the measurements to get those longer words printed on one piece of vinyl?
Good question, for the long boards I use my 12 x 24" vinyl. I varied the sizing depending on how it looked best, making sure to leave enough room on the edges to show a bit of a white around it.
Is there specific wood glue you recommend?
Hi Megan. I’m sure any wood glue would work. I use Titebond ll for my signs.
