I am corrently raising a 3 weeks old pidgeon that was pushed away from his family. I found him understand the nest a week ago. I'll keep him cause I can't release him as he's adapting to captivity life and his flock won't accept him as he was pushed away. He's all white with gray tail, I can't wait to see how beautiful he'll be once grown, bug I'll enjoy his baby's moments 🥰
I think it’s really important to highlight on this video that dove releases are extremely cruel and I urge people not to support them. These birds are not accustomed to being free outside and many don’t make it. This little guy is one of the lucky ones. There are so many other ways to celebrate rather than putting a living being in danger.
@@susank2019 the vet said... a dove release that didn't make it home, which means most do. I rescue birds, so I hate to see them stressed or stranded. But yes, pigeons do 'home' hence they were used to deliver messages for hundreds of years. I still hate the dove release idea, but I'm simply stating pigeon facts.
Beautiful! We too have what we think may have been a refugee from a dove release. He spent a lot of time in my husband's parking lot at work and was very friendly. When nearby school children started kicking at him and throwing things at him my husband decided to bring him home, and Pidget has been a wonderful part of our family for 16 years now. He's spoiled rotten but doesn't seem to mind. 😊 Even the dogs love and respect him.
I used to put a towel on my head while putting my make-up on and so my white dove would fly over and sit on top of it so that he could coo at himself in the mirror while I was getting ready. 💕🕊
This is about My dad's white dove. My dad had a custom jewelry store in So California. He always dressed up in shirt & tie 👔...was very proper about how he looked. Yet.....he also had a bird that looked exactly like this bird that he brought to work with him almost every day. He named her Snowflake and we called her Flaky. I can remember walking by my dad's office. He'd be at his desk, doing some important work with Flaky sitting on his head. Flakey knew to fly to her cage when she needed to go potty, then would fly back to him. I had the fun job of watching her when my dad was out of town. I would walk around the house and she would ride along on my shoulder. Fun memories!
Sweet story. Donut is a beautiful bird and glad he knew how to get his needs met and that you took him in 😀 I had a Quaker parrot that would fly to his cage to go potty, then immediately fly back to me. Just took a couple of times for him to figure it out. Extremely smart bird. Never dreamed a pigeon would be that smart.
i love happy endings. however, most dove pigeon wedding releases end up in a terrible way for the birds. we must make wedding releaes and all ohter releases and exploits of birds illegal
I love pigeons! They make such wonderful pets. If you’re after a parrot, consider having a pigeon first. They’re a lot less work (and less noisy!) but are just as loving and are surprisingly clever too
@Cindy Brown You're absolutely right. It is unfortunate that some birds, like Donut, are released after being used for events like dove releases without proper consideration for their well-being. However, it's heartening to know that Donut found love and support in his new home🥰💚
We had a similar story. This young bird just appeared on our cherry tree on sunny June. He was a she as we discovered when she laid eggs. They are Java doves. We called her Cuddles and she lived with us for 12 years 2006 - 2018. Wonderful companions and smart. Miss her terribly. irreplaceable. I don’t agree with them being let out at weddings etc as they are not good “homers” like pigeons and perish, Hope your baby is with you for many happy years.🕊️🌈🌈🏴
Yep, likely wedding release pigeon. That's cool you saved him. Most, having been bred in captivity, they don't survive long when released. Donut is awesome 👍.
Beautiful rescue story... I'm so very glad Donut found you! She's quite the lucky angel. Thank you for giving her a wonderful, comfortable, and loving home 😊❤
Thank you for your kind words! Donut is indeed a lucky bird to have found a caring and loving home with Arianna. It's heartwarming to see the bond they have formed and how Donut is thriving in her new environment
He looks and acts exactly like mine does. I got him when he was just 4 weeks old and also has two bands, as he came from a flock that were released at weddings and such, but he never was. He was brought to me instead. And he follows me everywhere, to the bathroom and everywhere and he sleeps with me.
Pigeons are beautiful and intelligent birds ❤❤❤ I'm sorry they have such hard lives in the streets. People are cruel to them, considering them pests, which they definitely are not ❤❤❤ The humans are the only pests on Earth. Thank you for being kind and compassionate ❤❤❤
I’m over here because I just found a white pigeon in my workplace parking lot and I think from his leg bands that he was also released at an event. He was dehydrated and hungry because these birds have trouble foraging naturally. The vet said he’d have been dead in another day or so. I don’t think people even realize how badly their beautiful ceremony ends for some of these birds. It’s so sad!
That's wonderful to hear! It's always heartwarming when a rescued bird like Donut finds a loving and safe home, even if it's not where they originally came from🥰
It’s a lovely rescue story. I just wonder how she contains the poop if Donut flies all around the house? My cockatiel flies for an hour or two each day and although he often poops above his cage, there are always one or two cleanups needed in other places.
@Celia That's a great question! Birds, including pigeons, naturally need to eliminate waste, and it can be a challenge to contain the mess when they have free flight indoors. While it may not be possible to completely prevent accidents, there are a few measures that can help minimize the cleanup🤪
Pigeons are dirty... Dirty lovers... They sneak onto your love radar and voila.. ou've got a dirty player on your case :-) hahaha :-) Love em and lvoe it :-) Play dirty, be clean and be fun! :-) always.. But please anyone reading this, they aren't pets you can just pick up, it take a load of time to enjoy and hone your skill to be their keeper.. Thats the hard part!
My white fantail pidgeon Zirikli came on my hand to watch this. He was very interested in it. He acts very similarly than your pidgeon, but he also picks my feet quite hard when they are bare without socks. The another, Colombine, is more timid and more nice 🤗 They are both male. When I come home they fly to me and Zirikli sits on my shoulder very long time 💖 🕊️🕊️💖
I use to raise all kinds of pigeons, I've had some most people dont even know exist. But I can tell you that most young teen age pigeons LOVE to wrestle. I've had my teenagers land on the arms of my chairs biting my ribs, that tickles then it can hurt. They will turn upside down, and bite, kick etc. just like a cat. I had a cat that tried to bully some of my teen pigeons and got their hair pulled out, their ears twisted and took off yeowling all the way. it was funny. I liked to keep the cats away from the pigeons, they can be rough on unsuspecting cats. I've also had some of my birds see the back door opened a little bit, and make a bee line into the house. and hide under the chairs and couch. they are extremely intelligent birds.
It looks like donut has a band on each leg. Are they yours or did his former owner band him so he could be returned if lost? Admittedly the life he's leading now is more comfortable than his previous life but pigeons normally live in flocks, so he will be missing the companionship of his flockmates. 😉
Mijn lieve Walther van mij! Wat een leuke video. Ik houd zo ontzettend ontzettend veel van jou en ik mis jou heel erg! Komen wij ooit samen lieve schat van mij?
My dear Walther of mine! What a nice video. I love you so much and I miss you very much! Shall we ever be together again, my sweetheat? >>> Ik hoop echt dat Walther uw bericht heeft gelezen - I really hope Walter happened to read your message 😅
Maybe the misperception that pigeons are dirty comes about from most people's interactions is with pigeons in coops. It would be like judging how people lived if you only saw them in overcrowded, poorly managed prisons.
You make an excellent point! Pigeons often get a bad reputation due to the negative associations with crowded urban areas or coops where they may be seen as pests. However, it's important to remember that not all pigeons have the same living conditions. Just like any other animal, their behavior and living environment can vary greatly. In the case of Donut, he found a loving and caring family with Arianna, who ensures he has a safe and happy home. This video reminds us that pigeons, like any other creatures, deserve a chance to be understood and appreciated for their unique personalities. 💜
Obviously there is a difference between pet pigeons and street pigeons. Same as fancy rats and wild rats, even stray dogs and feral cats compared to pets. They carry diseases and parasites because of the environment they live in, not because they're inherently dirty.
Why did Donut the pigeon leave the wedding? He heard Arianna had an open-door policy for sock-loving birds! 🕊🚪🧦

I totally agree.
I was just thinking the same!!!
I use to think it was cruel . I talked to a guy who did it. Those birds trained to return home. There is always a leader. Like ducks flying south.
@@lmichaels1994 Yes, sure we will go with what some random commenter says vs what she said her vet told her.

He has a band. You could find who it belongs to. You don’t know for sure it was released like that.
I put the bands on him after rescuing him. They have my phone number and identify him as a pet.
Love him! He looks like he needs a girlfriend.
He's a really cute one and you can tell he likes cuddles.
I'm curious ... can you potty train pidgeons?
Not exactly- we talk about this on his Instagram page!
What are the rings on his feet?
Those are numbered bands used for identifying the bird in case he gets lost.

Or just to let people know it is domestic not wild

Is he potty trained or is there a ton of cleaning up for pet birds?
Im really curious about the "poop' part. Does he go all over the house and the owners have to hunt for poop? Like the back of the TV?
