      @@LanceCSTCuddy OK I shall answer in such a way as to give them options...
      Spoilers;
      When The man we know as the Emperor of Nilfgard is getting married to Ciri's mother, he is at that time an outcast exiled Prince. His father was overthrown and murdered, but he was only tortured and turned into that hedgehog monster thing we saw.
      He was meant to die in the wild, but survived. After marrying Paveta he was contacted by Vilgefortz and they formed a plan to retake his empire. He wanted to be believed Dead, so he staged a shipwreck, but Paveta had figured him out, seen his considerable ruthlessness and the incestuous danger he could pose to their Daughter Ciri (yes, he planned to have a child with Ciri, his own daughter to produce a saviour)
      Paveta made sure Ciri wasn't on the ship, when it sunk. She died (something the Emperor still feels a bit bad about) and he survived in secret.
      After successfully taking power in Nilfgard, he wanted his child back from his mother inlaw, but Calanthy was tough, smart and had figured him out, so just asking wasn't an option.
      He used the military expediency of conquest, something Nilfgard wanted anyway, to take Cintra and hopefully get Ciri. He failed.

    I tell you truly, I had not heard of the Witcher until i had a friend lend me the 3rd game, insisting I play it. I started it, hoping it vaguely fill the void in my life the Dark Souls game left. It is a much different style of game but by then I was invested in the story. I didn't really play anything else until I had gotten all the way through. I then played the other games. The more I learn about the larger Witcher universe though, the more I feel I need to read the books

      Maybe an important piece of information is that the game Witcher 3 takes place after the end stories of the books… and change some parts of the book-stories and adds a lot of stuff that… rhymes… well with the books it has no or little grounded base in the books.
      See it like a continuation in fan fic form with… creative… addons to give the players more options and choices regarding battles and romances and world changing events.
      Games and books are very much enjoyable as stand alone experiences.

    • @sheegster
      @sheegster ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think that the reason that there is not many deep-dive lore videos surrounding the Witcher books is that Sapkowski’s writing for the most part doesn’t go seriously in-depth about many topics and instead in many cases chooses to be deliberately vague and to hint at the potential complexity of aspects of The Continent. Unlike many other great fantasy works The Witcher series has not been accompanied by a vast world-book which provides deeper context. Because of the aforementioned reasons there is a serious lack of canonical resources from which one could construct a video diving into topics of lore of the books that could last for more than a few minutes. Despite this I think that whenever Sapkowski publishes the new Witcher book that he claims to be working on there will be a great opportunity for videos to be made discussing the implications of whatever more is revealed to us about the world of the Witcher in that book.

    Also form meeting with Joanna Selborne we know, that Ciri posessed substantial psionic abilities. Joanna even refers to Ciri as "superpsionic" with powers ten times stronger as hers. Though Sapkowski never allowed theese powers to fully develop in books.

    Umm that’s actually incorrect. Almost no one knows Ciri is the heir to Nilfgaard’s throne. Only Emhyr and a few others know. Most just know that Ciri is the heir to Cintra and marrying her grants Emhyr the right to legitimately rule Cintra instead of merely through conquest. Because He is going to marry his daughter

    A lot of issues here.
    Ciri in the books did not and could not drink any of the witcher potions.
    They would kill or be very very bad (as shown by her drinking White Seagull once, by mistake) to any normal human being that did not go through the Trail Of Grasses. Ciri most certainly did not go through it. She was trained by Witchers for a few years, but absolutely did not have any of the witcher mutations.
    Besides - the strongest "superpower" that witchers get is the ability to survive taking the potions that make them MUCH faster / stronger etc. Witcher with his potions is super dangerous.
    Besides that... less so than you might think. They do live a lot longer, can take quite the beating and are probably a little beyond peak human capabilities in terms of reflexes, coordination, senses etc. - but it`s not that wide of a margin. Wihouth the potions is comes down to mostly decades of experience and sheer skill at fighting.
    They can, and were, killed by a regular person who is skilled enough (and does not sneeze).
    Also - back to Ciri. The magic part... after a certain point in the books Ciri can`t do "regular" magic AT ALL since her connection to it is forever broken.
    So - not a witcher and not a mage. She has her Elven Blood powers and is trained very well in hand to hand combat but that`s it.

Even Geralt in the show is more game Geralt than book Geralt, but still mostly the same guy and Dandelion is, well Dandelion.
