Saving the Animals is canon, but not saving them saves time. And its a speedrun, so killing them is logical. Nice race for all 3.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one thinking this - I muted it at Gravity Suit when they started making Beauty and the Beast references. A pun here or there is fine but really, it felt like it was 70:30 puns to gameplay commentary. I was irritated that they were more preoccupied with making Phantoon puns when Behemoth got Oceanfly because it wasn't until some time later that they had to ask, "Oh he got Oceanfly?" like they weren't even paying attention.

I don't wanna be mean but I gotta be honest, these commentators suck. Well more specifically the first guy. I feel bad for the second guy forcing himself to laugh at his bad jokes. There ain't no way his joke about "speed booster being called speed booster because it boosts your speed" was that funny
imo the forced laughs were more cringe. GDQ commentators are going to make bad jokes, but the unrealistic laughter makes it so you can't ignore them 🙄 also it only encourages the bad jokes more

What's funny to me about this comment: Sephy didn't laugh (whether forced or not) after I said that! If you're going to try to be honest or whatever, at least criticize something that actually happened.
That was a watershed moment of GDQ cringe, but it will likely never happen between two people who know each other and have done comms together semi-frequently...you know, like Sephy and me.
Unless you mean later on when I riffed on his John Madden comment. In which case he did laugh. Because he thought it was funny. I'm not going to apologize because you didn't think it was lmao
It is so hard to tell if the commentators are unbelievably stupid, or they are just playing like they are unbelievably stupid. They took away from this run so much, just making it more about there own jokes rather then bothering to commentate on the race! They endlessly missed good moves and techniques that the runners where doing. It was painful to listen to them the whole run. Big oof~
I can't speak for Sephy, but for me it's hard to tell one way or the other!
Wow the commentary on this race... I don't know if the commentators were new, or really nervous to be commentating a SM race at SGDQ but it was really hard to watch this un-muted. Way too much rambling making puns and jokes. I'm not sure what was worse, being focused on making a "Phan-troll" pun that Behemoth's Oceanfly became nothing more than, "Oh he got that?" a few minutes later, or the commentators really forcing a Beauty and the Beast joke out of Gravity Suit.
I have it paused now but I'm going to just mute this and have something else play in the background. I hate to be rude but this commentary was just cringe.
To be honest gdq got cringier and cringier every year. People made fun how cringy and edgy was at some point but it's getting pc television level cringe.
You seem stuck on us missing Behe's Oceanfly: Are you a big fan of his, or of the trick? Maybe both? We'll make sure to call it out next time.

It's not so much who it happened to but that it was something that was talked about and hyped up as a pretty difficult thing to pull off, and then when someone DID get it, the conversation was so devoted to making jokes and puns that a full minute later, him getting it was reduced to, "I think he got Oceanfly but I'm not 100% sure" - Props to you if you're the one that responded with "yes he did" because you were paying enough attention to notice that he did actually get it.
As for am I a fan of his? No more than Oats, Zoast, or Zeni. I just noticed up to that point that the commentary was very "let's make jokes" focused, to the point it felt like it was detracting from the race. Some of the jokes were great, specifically the 'Hermetically sealed pancakes' - I actually got a pretty good chuckle at that. However, the Beauty and the Beast joke? Not so much. Jokes are great, no doubt. But "too much of a good thing is a bad thing" isn't something people say just because it's a catchy phrase. Just saying.
Regardless, you're obviously doing something right because you're the commentator and I'm just a random schmuck on the internet ranting about something I'd have done differently. Still, I appreciate you taking the time to respond so good luck with future commentating of races and if I'm watching again, I'll make sure to keep the volume up till the end.
@@InvokeZero I appreciate your response as well! You levied some accurate and constructive criticisms. It's true, there can be "too much of a good thing" -- Sephy and I spent the whole race toeing that line, and, in retrospect, crossing it frequently. But as I've said in other comments, there's not much I would change. Except maybe have a bigger monitor -- commentating a 3-way race on a 15" laptop was challenging to say the least.
I appreciate the well wishes too, but remember: I'm just a schmuck on the internet, too. We all are :)

I mean despite that he still puts in time on speed running SM he has slowly been getting PB's in the 100% category. People act like he is completely washed up and isn't even a top runner anymore. I think what is more likely to have happened is the top runners just got much better since Oats had the record and Oats has not hit that level yet.
