Oeschinensee: The MOST Beautiful Lake of Switzerland - Gem of the Swiss Alps in Bernese Oberland

- The Oeschinensee lays in the Bernese (Berner) Oberland, in one of Switzerland’s most touristy regions. It’s located at the village of Kandersteg and can be easily reached by cable car. The Oeschinensee is the perfect place to go for a hike. As you reach higher, you will be getting more impressive views down to the lake. The Oeschinensee is embedded into the Swiss Alps and a pine tree forest and feels like an alpine Oasis. The water of the lake has a very strong turquoise shine, which make’s it specially beautiful. Having reached the top, you will get a perfect panorama with the Alps, the forest and the lake. There are many great photo spots at where to take beautiful pictures. The entire hike would take roughly 3 hours but depending on what are your travel goals, you may want to turn back once having reached the top and hike down to the alpine roller coaster. Just next to the top station of the cabin ride is the alpine roller coaster, which will add some great thrill to your journey. The ride is very fun, make sure to ride at least twice, and together with this unique alpine landscape definitely unforgettable. Also hike to the lake front. There you can rent a boat or simple walk along the shores. There is also a restaurant at where you can get some refreshments. To save some money, you may simply hike down instead of going back to the cable car; in that case, just buy a single ride ticket to go up. All in all, the Oeschinensee is clearly among the most beautiful lakes, if not THE most beautiful lake of Switzerland!

Is it dangerous to hike when it's raining? What if it starts raining mid hike? Since it's a loop, do you just go ahead with the hike?
Yes, its dangerous when it rains. Bring good shoes, return when it rains, when you are more than half, then continue instead. Checking the weather forecast helps. On the extact day, you can be sure the forecast is accurate

Hi. That was in late August. It was fine until we reached the top. We had to hike back because of the thunderstorm coming. Luckily still had time to do the coaster. At the lake it was already dark, then it rained but not too much luckily

Hi. Shud be fine for a 9 years old. Maybe not up to the cliff but to the lake front. There's only 1 restaurant by the lake, you cannot miss it😊

So the entire hike took 3 hours? If I take single ride gondola which one do you suggest, going up or down?
Hi Rita. The entire loop hike will take roughly 3 hours. I only went up and down, it took us about 1 to 1.5 hours. I definitely suggest you to take the gondola up. We hiked down, it was steep but really easy. Good to hike from the lake front. Walking to the gondola takes about 20-25 min, down to Kandersteg about 40 min. I hope I could help!
Can we avoid hiking to go up to this lake? As with small kids its very hard they get tired and we have to pick them up which is then hard for us.
Hi Saba. You can take the cable lift and then walk 25min straight to the lake. It doesnt go up. You will reach the lake shore. To have the view from above you have to hike 1h
@Djemo Graphic thank you for your reply. Can we not hike and just see the lake from down rather than hiking all the way up? We will definitely go to that slide as my kids love it, but hiking, they get tired, and after watching ur video it looks dangerous for them.
