It's really kind of incredible that this song was a b-side released on a video game soundtrack. I think it's one of the best and most "devo" songs they did. This is Devo performing in their task as truly modern folk singers, lamenting the real dilemmas of the 20th (and now 21st) centuries. The sense of pathos in it is authentic... Mark's sadness sounds real. Things are devolved, and what's a man to do?
Margatroid Yeah, considering stuff like Speed Racer and, well, basically all of Total Devo got widely released, it's weird that this (which might be in my Devo top 5) didn't. The lyrics have a helluva lot more meaning than "I'm Speed Racer and I drive real fast," for sure.
Knowing Devo, I honestly thought this was one of their music videos. Nice idea.
The Interstate 82 and 76 soundtracks and cinematics are wonderful !
This video is great on so many levels. I love the footage from the Prelinger Archives. And it fits the song so perfectly.
This is one of my favorite Devo songs...and this is a great video! This looks like something they'd actually release.
It was from a 1999 computer game called "Interstate '82." It was first issued on CD on the two-disc "Recombo DNA" rarities collection back in 2000. Then Warner Bros. included it as a bonus track on the 2010 remaster of "New Traditionalists"...which is odd, considering it's actually an outtake from the album after that, "Oh, No! It's DEVO."
I want my fridge to match my parties.
@NESSHEAD There's something bout Devo's music that is timeless. They've always been ahead of their time. ;-)
Yup, "Interstate '82" brought me here. Great song.
It sounds like he's saying "It's a moderate life" at times too lol
Sometimes these song and retro footage mashups seem uninspired, but I think this one is great. Really funny, and nice job with the editing.
NoelArtMedia, thank you for this upload
brilliant, good work Spud
Modde-ren life
I actually thought this was a real music video until after I scrolled down.
I've been searching for the install music to Interstate 82 for years!
awesome ;D
Omg I remember growing up with a Westinghouse fridge lol.
Did anyone notice a young Bill Cosby on one of the refrigerator covers?
+Will Crigler Oh, my! I just noticed that. That's one career that has truly devolved, isn't it? Also, if anyone is looking for a monkey, the Monkees are at the top of the screen at 1:32.
Great tune! This video could almost have worked for 'patterns' too....
You say that the video doesn't belong to the song as an original clip???
I thought it was authentic!
Very well done!
I also know this song because of Interstate '82, long time ago in the end of December 1999.
I know he's saying "It's a modern life", but it still sounds like he's saying "It's a matter in life". Odd lol
time to let it go...
The last person I told was... DAN!
D-E-V-O deserves to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! (Also, excellent video. It looks like something Devo would do themselves!) Plus I LOVE this song!
Knowing Devo, I honestly thought this was one of their music videos. You also did really great in syncing the dancing with the rhythm. Nice idea.
I know this is old DEVO but It's new DEVO to me. First time I heard this track. I dig it.
It was a bonus track on the "New Traditionalists" cd.
I discovered many Devo songs today I never heard before that sound good! Awesome day!
And to go with the song, pictures of different Fridge freezers and patterns...
I heard it as "Moderate" At times though that's not the lyric.
Ahh good old times with Interstate 82...
"One Dumb Thing" is the ending music.
"Faster and Faster" is the first music track on the game CD and also plays during the mine escape.
That's the song I could listen to mein Leben lang auf Dauerschleife.
@Margatroid Thanks. The last criticism I want to get is: "uninspired handling of original footage". I hope you'll check out my other mashups and mixed-media videos.
Time to let it go..
Wow, fucking AWESOME music video there, well done!! :D
TLT's Soundcloud brought me here.
Time to let it go..
@ScaleMilitaryMovies
I used to install that game again and again, just for this song ;)
Benign design - I think this works well :)
I wait for this song 8 years.
Great composition and fluidity between scenes! If anything, mixing the party clips with dreary and gloom clips to add to the cynicism behind the song would make it better.
+Thermodynamic Thanks for your comment. I meant for the party clips to contrast the song's cynicism, not highlight it.There is a darkness just below the surface anyway -surftex black, anyone? I personally like to think of it as a mid '60's bomb shelter party, all indoors. There's a Madison Avenue commercial slickness that comes across. And notice the bubble edits resemble an energy dome. I also didn't want to use another film. This is Westinghouse's industrial film "Match Your Mood" 100% recycled, and the rest of the film is space junk.
nu-tra has the best b-sides/outtakes, swap this with super thing, race of doom with mecha mania boy and anything else but 'going under' with 'toil is stoopid'
