    I have never heard Gus lost for words.
    But it is a testimony to his character.
    His respect for Tommy is greatly appreciated.
    RIP TOMMY.

    Quite literally the last of a generation. That 70s and 80s era of Rugby League that was played by madmen and fools, where brutal mass brawls were par for the course, well that was Tommy. Tommy was the last visible link to that crazy time in our game. A fearless man with a big heart, and an absolute legend for Wests, Newtown, NSW and Australia. Thanks Tom. You'll be missed champion.

      I love your take their but to call them fools is a bit of a stretch you wouldn’t call them that to their face, they were definitely madmen and truly brutal the way they played but they were not fools lad

    That was a wonderful tribute from Gus. It's not like he had a week to prepare. What he said said was true about the gift of giving a happy memory. As you get older you discover that there are less and less chances to escape the difficulties of getting old. One of the few ways is through your memory. You can sit back with your memories and if you're lucky, they will be happy ones, and for a little while you can smile. Tommy did that for us. He gave us something to remember.

    Tommy’s a legend. He is honestly someone I owe a lot to. He made Queensland selection panel select Alfie. Alfie is my childhood hero, and made me so happy so often and none of that happens without Tommy. 1 the sheer respect Tommy had that a blue could force a selection for Queensland, and the sheer integrity of the man that he gave us a legend not a nufty. Tommy will always be the backline version of Gordon Tallis.

    Just watched the 1981 GF again. God those guys were hard! I’ve been a Parra supporter since 1968 but have always loved Tommy with 1981 being the only exception. Looking back on Gus playing alongside Tommy on that day makes me understand why Gus, for the very first time I can remember, really struggled with his words. He is literally holding back his tears.

    • @shaytrueblueaussie
      @shaytrueblueaussie 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@vc8160 Fair enough. The sport nowadays you could consider it that way. Back in the 70’s and 80’s, you’d be absolutely wrong. Those times were rough, punches were thrown, massive hits, causing injuries. But those men, never gave up. They did their all, for the team. For you to come out like this, is incredibly disrespectful and just goes to show him much of a knob you are.

    Before I was old enough to even watch a game on tv, Raudonikis, Beetson and Fulton were known legends to me and everyone in Australia. By the time I started watching, 1978, it was the Fibro v Silvertails days, and Tommy was right in the thick of it. What a magic year of league that will always stay in my mind. I was a Roosters fan, but I think everyone except Manly fans also admired Wests :)

    There wouldn't be many ppl around not feeling upset about Tommy. I wasn't very old when Tommy played ñ retired, so i can't comment much on his playing days, except from the old vids. I got to know Tommy thru the telly in interviews etc & he was a good old Aussie bloke, a little Aussie battler, they don't make Aussie blokes anymore, their hardness, toughness, wore his heart on his sleeve, trying to get the best outta everyone... These days a bloke just gets looked at & he gets butt hurt, masculinity has gone, it's sad to see that the Aussie bloke has died along with Tommy. Loved ya Tommy, from a Parra Sheila 💞💞💞

    I grew up watching him play on tv and live at games. It was always a thrill to see him up close, with Wests or with Newtown, even though I was a born and bred Cronulla boy. He was just a legend who never failed to deliver, be it in insight into the game, or a humorous anecdote. While ever Rugby League exists, he will be remembered. RIP Tommy.
