The beginning and ending sound is a jaw harp. That sound id made by Adam Chance (also goes by Chance as the beat boxer's name is also Adam and is the bands co-founder.)This is done live using a looper only. I have seen these guys live and they are absolutely amazing. They can reproduce anything you hear in their videos live. They have a whole library of music. Pick any one of them and you will not be disappointed. Welcome to the rabbit hole that is Home Free.

Adam Rupp is the beatboxer extraordinaire. We call his invisible harmonica his nomonica. He can also sound like drum kits, scratching, birds and insects, jets flying overhead, and so much more. The bass singer is Tim Foust. He has a 5+ octave range. There's a live concert video about 45 minutes long from Morrison IL where,, after being admonished by his band mates for singing tenor up in their range, he start one note on a very deep low growl which ends up blowing out the speakers, to the amusement of everyone on stage and off. The lead singer here is tenor Austin Brown out of Tifton, Georgia. Their video Guilty Pleasures is filmed during a concert there and Austin gets to shine, with his goofy sweet self. The other tenor (glasses) is Rob Lundquist and the guy is the dark vest is Adam Chance, called Chance since there was already an Adam. He's only in one of their videos, as a party goer, before May 2016. Adam's brother and the groups go-founder Chris Rupp left then to do some producing, some solo work and sing with Cypress Fyre and with 7th Ave. Their sister Tristin is also in that last group showing that the Rupp children are a talented group.

    • @super_siri

Oh it’s interesting to see them do it live. Chance was doing the mouth harp (jaw harp) and he does it into a looper live as he says it hurts his voice too much to do it throughout the song. Home Free is amazing. They are all so talented. Austin (lead here) is a great singer and can also do a harmonica and will do it live on this song. Tim, the bass, has a 5 octave range so he can go super low and then sing up with the tenors. Rob (glasses) is a great singer. Adam, the beatboxer, is a freak of nature and an award winning beatboxer. Adam Rupp Drum Solo (2015) to see him with a mike do the drums on stage. Amazing. They sing all genres of music just let us know what you want to hear. And they also do goofy stuff too. Great sense of humor. Good reaction!😀

They all can take the lead depending on whos voice is best for the song. They are known for their tight harmonies. Tim Foust is one of the best bass singers out there & their beatboxer vocal percussionist Adam Rupp can simulate any sound. This song is very old & is done in the bluegrass country style. It was used in the movie "Oh Brother Where Art Thou" starring George Clooney.

The twanging sound is imitating a jaw harp (also called a juice harp) which is heard many times in Bluegrass music. They have videos of their live performance of this song. When performing live they have to use a looper because there is so much going on in production. The live is cool because two guys get into a harmonica duet. Home Free is easily my favorite group.

New subscriber and great reaction, too! I love it when people discover Home Free. They are a freakishly talented group of fellas! They can make you laugh sometimes, they can make you cry sometimes but they always impress. Here's a cheat sheet on the group: Adam Rupp, co-founder of HF and the awesome beatboxer. Tim Foust, bass. He has a five-octave range. Robb Lundquist (glasses and beard) Tenor Harmony. Austin Brown, Lead Tenor. Adam Chance, Baritone ( goes by Chance). Chance replaced Chris Rupp (co-founder) who left in 2016. Take Me Home Country Roads is phenomenal but you might also want to check out Dreamer, When A Man Loves A Woman, End Of The Road, One Man Band, I Swear, Blue Ain't Your Color, Dive Bar Saints and Folsom Prison Blues. For some funny ones: Butts Medley, All About That Bass, Champagne Taste, Hillbilly Bone. For some serious ones: How Great Thou Art, Go Rest High On That Mountain. When you are familiar with all the boys and their vocal roles, do Mayday. And last but not least, Brothers In Arms. It is haunting and beautiful. Yeah, they have so much going on in the background on this one that to do it live and sound as good, they use a looper for the mouth harp sound(it makes Chance's throat hurt to do it for the entire song) and for Rob's "Don't Don't Do" sound. And the way they do it is quite cool. They get the sounds on the looper and then once they are done with the song, it's gone to be used for the next song if they need it. It's really crazy what these 5 guys can do.

I'm so happy you're falling into this a capella rabbit hole. In case you didn't know, all three groups you've reacted to participated in "The Sing-off", PTX in season 3, Home Free and VoicePlay in season 4. It's worth watching their performances somewhere down the line.
    Other a capella groups:
    * Citizen Queen, a girl group, also in the 5-people format originally, but now there are only four and I think no longer a capella.
    * Acapop Kids, so talented and so cute! Their Kelly Clarkson medley is so good. Both groups were formed by Scott Hoying of Pentatonix
    * Voctave, they perform at Disney World, and definitely have that Disney sound. Their arrangements are majestic.
    * Maytree, a Korean group, appeared on AGT once, they do very fun short pieces
    * Narin, another Korean group, they do a lot of covers of K-pop songs, including an evolution of BTS
    * Peter Hollens, one-man a capella, often works with Home Free or its members
Since it's December, I think it would be fun if you do a reaction of a Christmas song, say, "Silent Night", performed by some of these groups, see their different approaches.

Generally there aren't all women acapella groups because women are physically unable to have the same range as male singers. They have to modify the songs to make up the fact that women don't sing bass. Generally bass singers are the foundation of an acapella group. Any acapella group that lacks a true bass singer has to modify by having baritones act as bass singers or altos being the foundation for an all woman acapella group.

The first lead singer is Austin Brown from Tifton Georgia. The 2nd is Rob Lundquist. The Bass is Tim Faust from a small town outside Houston. Adam Chance was the guy doing the cool sound at the beginning. Adam Rupp is the beatbox extraordinaire.

Now that you've heard the bass and both tenors lead, may I recommend a recent one that features their baritone, Adam Chance. It's a cover of Workin' for a Living. It's fun, funny, you get to hear beatboxer Adam Rupp really go to town with his "nomonica", and -- bonus -- they provide you with all their names at the beginning of the video.

The holy trinity of acapella , is PTX, Home Free (they also have a great cover of End of the Road) and Voiceplay which is the most theatrical of the three and VPs guy Geoff Castellucci has his own page with some solo acapella, yes, that's not a typo. HF and VP were in the same season of The Sing Off with HF winning. Those are three great rabbit holes to explore

Home Free is mainly country, but literally can do anything. Check out Two Country Boys try singing Opera. or their cover of Listen to the Music. Their collaberation with Don McLean for American Pie is a feast for the ears. And the collaberation with Lee Greenwood and the Air Force Band on God Bless the USA is an absolute masterpiece.

BE VERY CAREFUL! …. This group is extremely infectious! Called a country band, (completely inadequate description) can sing literally ANYTHING! They will bring you from tears of laughter to tears of sadness, with a healthy dose of chills and throat lumps along the way.
Try “The Butts Medley “, then go to “Brothers in Arms” and you will begin to understand. You just plain can’t pidgin hole their sound!
    Always different, always excellent!

Home Free is the best--period. It's easy to forget they are completely acapella and make all "instrumental" sounds themselves.
In this song they are making a distinct southern (country blues) presentation--it definitely fits the lyrics of the song. Chance doing the jaw harp sound really sets the stage for this song's story, which Austin's twang fits phenomenally. Tim's bass line completely grounds the harmonies and Adam's voice percussion simply cannot be beat. This performance highlights a lot of Home Free's strengths although they also handle ANY other genre just as amazingly❣️🎼🥰🎶❤️
Hope you'll consider checking out their Christmas videos like "Full of Joy", "Snow Globe", "Do You Hear What I Hear?", "Mary, Did You Know", and so many others!
Some of my favorites of their regular videos are "Working for a Living", "Good 'Ol Country Harmony", "Land of the Free", "Elvira" (with the Oak Ridge Boys), "Undivided", "Ain't Goin' Down 'Til the Sun Comes Up" (which is not on YT--it's on their official Facebook page), "Listen to the Music", "What's Left of My Heart", and "Understand" 😍!

The opening and ending instrument sound that Adam Chance makes perfectly, is called a didgeridoo. An instrument that is native to Northern Australia. Adam Rupp is the beatboxer, and probably the most versital one that you'll ever hear. The entire group is extremely talented. Their rendition of Johnny Cash's ring of Fire with Avi Kaplan is awesome.

You can start today and won't run out of material for a freaking long time. Check out their Butts Remix (hilarious!). Welcome to the Home Free rabbit hole! If you continue to explore this group, you will see that although they are generally in a "country genre", they can also do R&B (Boyz2Men End of the Road cover); soul (When a Man Loves a Woman cover); pop (American Pie cover with Don McClean); and even disco (Soul Train cover) and many, many more. Enjoy!

Home Free is incredible. Everything they do is great. And although they are a Country A-cappela group, they can really sing all genres. They really all have great voices with their own specialties. Even Adam Rupp who started the group with his brother Chris Rupp. Chris left the group in 2016 to go solo but also to start other projects with his sister, among others.
Adam Rupp-Beatboxer but is actually an inhuman freaking good mouth artist. For me the best pf the world
Tim Foust- Deep bass but also as a tenor and everything in between is possible.
Austin Brown-High tenor, powerfull with his great runs and high notes.
Rob Lundquist (beard and glasses)-Tenor, with a voice like velvet, warm, rich and soulful
Adam Chance (back left, who is called Chance) - Baritone/ Bass, a voice so smooth and sexy. And who here also makes the Jaw harp sound.
There is no lead singer in Home Free. They look at every song whose voice suits it best, the best harmony, no egos, no rivalries, great personalities etc. Besides, they can all beatbox (see their live performance 9to5). ..
This is one of the many covers they do in addition to various originals, and each one is just amazing.
Take the time to discover Home Free because it will be a great tour. For me they are number 1 A-Cappella group
I'm a Home Fry from the Netherlands.

Home Free is amazing! I have seen them in person live twice and watched two of their concerts live from home via live stream. They all such wonderful voices and Tim, the bass with the longer hair, has a great range - from tenor, to baritone to bass. And when he goes low? Oh my word! Also, the guy foing the harmonica sounds? He is their best boxer and he is incredible to listen to live!
