I do agree with the criticisms about building up in King of Tokyo. By the time a player's earned enough to buy more than 1 upgrade, usually someone's already almost at 15 points and/or just about everyone is on their last few HP.
I always like playing with the mechanic that is in King of Tokyo Duel, where if you dont buy a card on your turn, you gain 1 energy. It helps everyone just constantly gain energy towards the powers :)
A game like this could really use figurines for the monsters. It has this nice modeled volcano in the middle that just rolls the boss dice, but then you're playing with carboard cutouts. I know it wouldn't really change the game at all, but would give it a little extra flair. The artwork is nice for the cards and all, but for the main monster pieces it would be nicer to have something more tactile.
I was really hoping KoMI would have some kind of gameplay element similar to the power up mechanic. As in, cards that are unique to monsters that give them their own flair. I get there are upgrades you can get, but some assymetry would be cool. Along with some more enemy and difficulty variety.
King of Tokyo was probably the game that got me into modern board gaming (shout out to Wil Wheaton's Tabletop and my friends at college in between classes) but it definitely is a pretty simple game, and this kind of is too. I enjoy that it's a co-op, slightly more complex king of tokyo and I think it's fun. Honestly, I like king of New York more than KoT, but they never really got around to making more content for that rather than reprinting king of tokyo a third time.
Huge fan of King of Tokyo and King of New York. This game, however, just sucks! It's way too hard even on the easier difficulty levels, and the monsters are all the same, lacking evolutions.
Crystal Dragon sends his regards.

The boss phase honestly sounded like the card game skit

I used my subscriber feed!
I love the boardgame reviews!
I chose this over the similar The Loop because KoT was one of the games that got me into the hobby. Somehow havent gotten around to playing it yet.
I honestly like King of Tokyo and King of New York a lot. I don't know if I like 'em this much, though.
Same. I was a big fan of King of Tokyo, but in general I'm not huge on co-ops...
Played and really enjoyed a similar game (Dice Throne) recommended by this channel
Bro sounds like”the fitness gram pacer test”
I want this game just for the extra monster cutouts so I can use them for King of Tokyo, but the actual game looks okay.
I found this really good for including younger players (like, children) who loved KoT.
Looks cool, but it does seem to have a lot going on. I do like the co-op aspect of it, though.
now we need a collaboration with Godzilla or something.

I recommend Unmatched Adventures if you're looking for a much better, more balanced co-op game.
