I couldn't decide between the two bikes so I bought both! Thank you and now my wife won't talk to me...Win..Win..and Win again! Really enjoy the content, thanks for everything you do.
You pretty much convinced me to get a YZ250x and that's what I did. My first ride was on a field and I could tell this bike is amazing. Can't wait to go through trails with it.
@@jasonpark5692 Your Welcome and I have a lectron carb on it and it's great. Definitely gives the bike more power. I don't have a bigger tank on it because personally I don't ride long enough to drain it all the way. The stock tank isn't terrible it just depends on your riding preference.
I do this comparison almost every weekend with my brother. I have the 2016 xc350 and he has the yz250x. I agree with the light feel and fun factor of the yz but I prefer the extra hit and stability from the 350.
Once again the Yz250x is the bike of choice. Kyle It's not like you haven't had any seat time on ktm's so you know what your talking about. Nothing against KTM they are awesome bikes just can't afford both 😐... Myself I'm riding the Yz250x I find it hard to like anything else. I've been to a couple ride days for KTM and Yamaha because they bought carry the bikes I like. KTM day I rode the 350 300xc and 450xcf great bikes. Yamaha day I rode the Yz450fx Yz250fx WR450f and bike like mine the Yz250x. Every bike had there own good traits. That being said whatever style of riding you like or maybe I should say whatever style of rider you are you going to like a specific bike for you. 2016 now going into 2017 models it's going to be had to find a bad bike just depends on what bike fits you better or what bike you ride better on. Me personally I'm faster on a 450f just because I've been riding them for 12yrs now. But that being said I'm not racing anymore and I want to just ride for fun and that's why I ride the Yz250x because 2 stokes are simply funn and not boring!! And cheap to maintain so it makes the sport more affordable and that's my .02 Think of the 2 stroke as the cheap girlfriend that's Fun and Great in Bed! And think of the 4 stroke as the high maintenance girl that's more expensive to maintain that your more than likely married to and is somewhat fun but not as fun in bed!
I have the same 350 and have ridden the 250x. Have to agree to disagree on this one. 250x was harsh in rocks and roots compared to the 350xcf but was a little better on high speed stuff. Motor wise 350 hands down. I noticed you always ride the 250 close to or on the pipe while the 350 never goes over 8000rpm. You are basically using most of the power of the 250x and the 350 is keeping up easily using its lower and midrange. The 350 is eye watering fast over 8000 rpm. Overall fit and finish on the 350 is better to. Ya the 350 flames out easier but retraining the clutch hand makes it a non issue. And this is coming from a guy who rode 2 stroles for years before switching.
Everyone has different likes and dis-likes and that doesn't mean that anyone is wrong. Most of this is rider preference, so I can totally see where you are coming from. This video doesn't do the 350 justice as to how I ride it. It's a really short clip. It's a phenomenal bike bike and I agree that all of the power in the mid-range to top end. I just don't have as much fun on it as many of the other bikes I have owned. This is the second 350 I have owned in the past 2 years.
Strange because EVERY Yamaha I have rode with SSS front forks were NOT harsh over roots and rocks. Just the opposite. Did Yamaha screw up their valving on the front forks on the 250x? I hope not, never play around with a good thing. Gawd I LOVE Yamaha front spring forks.
Bennett James Lee...They are the best on valves. I ride hard and have over 150 hrs on my '16 350 XC-F and the valves are still within spec. Also, the mechanic at my local shop said he has never had to do a valve job on a 350.
Testing stock bikes is the only way to go, but if u ever want to try something on that 250x that will blow your mind, go with fmf gnarly pipe and fly wheel weight combo, it turns it into an absolute tractor :)

What about a 2014 or 2015 yz250 mx converted to a scrambles bike - adding a recluse clutch and a FMF knarly pipe for added low end. Hand Guards and a skid plate. That's what I'm thinking. I live in Texas ride the TOCRS series the course's are tight and really not that difficult. I'm riding a 2000 KX 250 now and it works great. Added the recluse clutch and a knarly pipe. It's a bit heavy compared to what's available now like a yz250. Newer Model. I love the yamaha's as you do. Thanks for the research you do it's very helpful. Appreciate your input. Steve in Texas
So true, I just need a KTM 350xc , 300xc and a 500, and a Yammy 250x, half of my riding I have a plate, as little of slab as I can, then Dirt, dirt, dirt. Some days I trailer to the single track, a KTM 250xc, 300xc or a yammy 250x all would rock... I need to work on my quiver!
Just curious but have you compared your 250 XC with the 350 XCF? Was just curious how it stacks up since it actually has a new motor and suspension as well as the hydraulic clutch unlike the YZ. Also I'm actually looking to get a 250 two and am stuck between the 250 XC and YZ250X. I don't know anyone with either of these bikes so I was wondering if I could get your opinion. If you had to choose only one which would it be? The 250 XC or YZ250X and why?
I've got a 2013 350 sx-f and my roommate has a 2015 yz250. Getting off the ktm and onto the yz. The ktm is by far the better bike in so many ways. So much so, that I'm selling it to get a cr250r. It's better than I am and it took a good wipe out to admit it. I'm not a 2 stroke guy. I'm getting the Cr so we have the same style bike. It's more fun to have similar bikes I think.
Nice truck and trailer I have the same setup. The yz250 has been one of my favorite bike's since the old chad reed days and I have a 06 yz250 with a big bore kit and and 3.2 ims tank and other mod cuz I race hare & hound desert races but now I have a 2015 yz450 with all the same mods. I would love to get my hands on a 250x looks like a great bike its funny after all these years its a great bike still. I have my yz250 still just need to rebuild the motor cuz it's been sitting for the last two years since I blow it up in a race and since i got the 450👎😞 but still a two stroker for life.🚀
Hey Kyle love the channel just want some of your in put. I am stuck between getting a 300 xc or a yz450fx and now Honda has come out with a 450 RX. I don't know what to get and I can't find and shootouts with the 450 rx. What are your thoughts.
So Kyle you have owned a 450 and the 300, so is the power of the 300 as easy to control as the 450. Right now I ride a wr450 and I'm a little worried about the 300 being a little out of control.
ima get a new 250x in the next month. yesterday i traded my yamaha warrior for a kx250 2 stroke, its a rocket. i now have an old yz250 and an old but good kx250. hopefully this coming spring i can get more seat time. however the 250x will prolly be the last bike i buy new, theyre just so expensive now, even if they are all awesome.
Watching you ride the two strokes is fun and exciting. Then you switch to the four stroke, and it's completely boring. To all my four stroke buddies out there, I aint mad at ya. I own four dirt bikes, and they are all two strokes, and the 250x will be mine next year, you've convinced me.
Kyle, could you get your hands on a te300 and compare it to the ktm 300? maybe throw a beta 300 in there as well. I know they are similar but I need your opinion before I can choose. Thanks
Awesome looking forward to it. I have a sneaky suspicion that the Beta will be your new favorite bike, I keep hearing they are the tractor of all tractors an I know how much you love that lugability. Keep it up!
Great Video! Please make a video about bigger 4 Strokes Bikes... I know you don't like them but I'm sure many will find it very interesting. have a great day!
The xc is more designed for cross country racing with a semi wide transmission, also has a bit stiffer suspension to soak up the bumps at higher speed. The xcw has the wide ratio transmission, the suspension is more plush for tighter trails, I believe most come with a head light. also correct me if i'm wrong, the xcw has the electric start as well as back up kick start where as the xc just has the E-start. I think the motors might be tuned a bit different as well, but i'm not 100% sure on that part
The Yamaha Gang thanks ..but im desiding between a 250x and a ktm 250 xc ....so does the yamaha have that bad low end or is it nice or what compared to the ktm 250
I just picked up the 17 XC-F so what you telling me I could've saved some money and just bought the cheaper Yamaha 2-smoker lol the suspension on the 16 KTM's are not that great so that might be a factor in your decision? try a 17 see what you think I haven't had mine out yet still snow on the ground here.
Looking back through these videos I've made a decision I'm gonna save up my money maybe sell one of my bikes for a yz250 and do a conversion although I think it may not be until summer-fall
You have mentioned a few times that the clutch on the Yamaha is not what you would like it to be. I have a 2017 yz250x and also am from Utah and also did not quite like the clutch. I bought a pro taper clutch assembly that has sealed ball bearings and it has improved the feel a great deal. It was the best 60 bucks I've spent for my yz250x.
fly racing do a perch . sub $100 i have one on my 250x , fly racing easy pull pro, makes it lighter than any ktm i have felt even the new ones. but its the same deal as the protaper perch . but the fly ones have the pivot even further in
Can you make a video on 2 stroke vs 4 stroke maintenance? I'm new to the sport and was just curious. Thanks bud and keep up the great work. Some of the best content on youtube
I'm 57 yrs old and coming off a KX450f that I shouldn't be on in the first place. I race motocross in a vet class and need to change bikes. I rode my son's 2015 YZ250 and I loved the lightness feel and I could turn the bike and it would go where I want it to, not like the KX450f, where I'm its bitch. My son's YZ250 may wear me out too by the way power comes on, but I've heard the YZ250X is smoother and user friendly, something an old guy like me could handle. I would even throw a flywheel weight in if necessary. Would you recommend this bike as an old guy motocross racer?
Bite the bullet and put the Magura hydraulic clutch on the YZ, I'm sure many people would be interested to see if it is as much of an improvement that you hope it is. We're waiting....
Seems like you're a two-stroke Rider and don't like four strokes also seems like you need to shift up and get on it a little more four strokes like to be ridden hard
Dirt Bike Channel can you please tell me what bike i should get a yz250x or a 250 xc maybee a 300 idk but i like having low end power for mud etc.. becuase i live in south east texas uts mudddy grassy etcc i like both bikes no doubt but i just dont know .....or tell me this if there was a mud pit wich would spray more mud
Hey, Kyle you should get graphics for your trailer. Also you should work with some graphics company to get dirt bike channel graphics. I would definitely buy them and it would help support the channel.
Stop complaining about it not being a hydraulic clutch I've used both it just takes getting used to. If you grew up riding Japanese dirt bikes it feels natural, fun even to spin the tire a little
Interesting. I just feel like you guys take them for granted a little bit, riding those new bikes all the time. Its about time yamaha do the upgrades other companies have already figured out
I missed something, you compared a 250cc Two stroke to a 350cc Four stroke and made comments like, it's more nimble, twitchy. Having raced both two and four strokes, I'll take the two stroke just for the fun factor.
I'm reviewing a lot of different bikes for comparison. I review every bike I buy and compare them to others I own. Then I sell them and get other bikes.
awesome video! loving my YZ250X! very much appreciate the reviews you have on it was very helpful in determining which bike to get! I grabbed the tubliss system and have a Magura hydraulic clutch on the way to install. after that I will start with some other mods like pipe and silencer. are you planning on doing any upgrades on the 250X? keep the awesome videos coming!! headed to patreon to help your efforts! Chris
I bought my scale right after selling the 350, so I don't know that for sure. My gut tells me the KTM is about 8 lbs heavier. I do know that the YZ250X is lighter than my 2017 300 XC according my my scale.
Your info is way off. The yz250x is 19.45lbs lighter than the 350xcf. 2017 yz250x w/ full tank of fuel 229lbs 2016 350xcf w/ full tank of fuel 248.45lbs
Video was very bias. No perspective from other riders. Everyone has a different opinion and will claim one is better than the other. Not a bad video, it's just that it doesn't make sense to decide on a bike from this vid. All of it was his opinion. Didn't suggest much else for others.🤷♂️
Hi Kyle love the videos. Since you don't like the clutch on the Yamaha there a Australian company that make hydraulic clutches called Clake. Have a look at their website as they make great, reliable clutch products that can make the clutch pull up 75% lighter than a stock hydraulic one. here's the website address www.clake.com.au/ Thanks again for making such grate videos.

reeds and proper jetting

I would even throw a flywheel weight in if necessary. Would you recommend this bike as an old guy motocross racer?
song name?
Yamaha is really great, Yamaha for life
Fix the squish, jetting and the pv mod and the x engine gets....no joke.. like 20% improvement.
On my yz250x I tightened the steering nut just a hare and it calms the front end down a little bit. It's a poor man's steering damper. lol
I do that same thing on mine too.
Bite the bullet and put the Magura hydraulic clutch on the YZ, I'm sure many people would be interested to see if it is as much of an improvement that you hope it is. We're waiting....
Tempting... not sure how much I want to put into this bike since I will need to sell it in the spring to make room for another bike to review.
3:00 exactly my thoughts when i saw you riding it.
:)
Seems like you're a two-stroke Rider and don't like four strokes also seems like you need to shift up and get on it a little more four strokes like to be ridden hard
Compare the yz250 x vs Ktm 300 Xcw
I don't own a XC-W anymore, but I can tell you that the YZ250X compares more to the XC line. I will do a video on that in the next couple of months.
I'm still undecided, should I keep on riding the two strokes or give the four strokes a try?
Hey, Kyle you should get graphics for your trailer. Also you should work with some graphics company to get dirt bike channel graphics. I would definitely buy them and it would help support the channel.
I actually don't want graphics on my trailer. I like to be more "low key" and not advertise that I have valuable in there :)
Dirt Bike Channel Ya I get that I try to never show I have dirt bikes in my garage. But dirt bike channel bike graphics would be pretty cool
Kyle, Dont you ever sell that sweet YZ. Nevermind the clutch.
If I want to keep reviewing bikes, I have to sell it.
Stop complaining about it not being a hydraulic clutch I've used both it just takes getting used to. If you grew up riding Japanese dirt bikes it feels natural, fun even to spin the tire a little
I did grow up using Japanese bikes. Not complaining, just pointing it out that Hydro is better IMO. Thanks for watching.
Interesting. I just feel like you guys take them for granted a little bit, riding those new bikes all the time. Its about time yamaha do the upgrades other companies have already figured out
What happened to the Razorback trail comparisons? Bring back the Razorback!!
Dirt Bike Channel ok thanks for the clarification. Good video by the way, the dirt did look prestine.
Yeah, it was great that day.
Apples with apples test it next to a ktm 300 two stroke IMO
Test the cr500
awesome video! loving my YZ250X! very much appreciate the reviews you have on it was very helpful in determining which bike to get! I grabbed the tubliss system and have a Magura hydraulic clutch on the way to install. after that I will start with some other mods like pipe and silencer. are you planning on doing any upgrades on the 250X?
keep the awesome videos coming!! headed to patreon to help your efforts!
Chris
Not sure yet. It's hard to justify outfitting a bike I know I can't keep long term with a ton of parts. We'll have to see.
The KTM is actually 2 pounds lighter... A 4 stroke that's 2 pounds lighter than a 2 stroke.
Nigel Naughton basically no difference
I bought my scale right after selling the 350, so I don't know that for sure. My gut tells me the KTM is about 8 lbs heavier. I do know that the YZ250X is lighter than my 2017 300 XC according my my scale.
Your info is way off. The yz250x is 19.45lbs lighter than the 350xcf.
2017 yz250x w/ full tank of fuel 229lbs
2016 350xcf w/ full tank of fuel 248.45lbs
Luc Deane He was comparing the dry weight of the ktm to the wet weight of the yz.
Nigel Naughton I think a closer comparison would be the YZ vs. the KTM 300 XC.
Whoever was on that 350 can't ride, or wasn't trying when you were hanging with him
holy crap kyle! your dirtbikes are dirty....lol
I know :)
if yamahas had hydraulic clutches i would never consider a ktm. But man are brembo clutches nice lol
you can add one for about $250
Video was very bias.
Have a look at their website as they make great, reliable clutch products that can make the clutch pull up 75% lighter than a stock hydraulic one. here's the website address www.clake.com.au/ Thanks again for making such grate videos.
fly racing do a perch . sub $100 i have one on my 250x , fly racing easy pull pro, makes it lighter than any ktm i have felt even the new ones
Yz sorry
