I have owned the YZ250X since November, (6 months as of this post) my friend and neighbor who bought one and we can't say enough good about it! A few things I have added to the bike that really enhanced the experience.. 1- Lectron carb... all I can say is you won't regret it! the fuel economy increase is insane, we used to go through a tank of gas in a riding day and need to add to it, now we never get low enough to be the reserve. the response is increased greatly, the smooth power delivery is excellent and the ability to go from cold to hot with big elevation changes and not need to worry with jetting, set it and forget it! since installing the Lectron carb I have yet to need to change a plug, have ridden in the mountains and on the first with zero adjustments needed and the bike just flat out performs! 2- FMF Gnarly Pipe and turbine core 2.0 spark arrestor. this allows us to ride on State parks here in NC, and wow did it increase the low and mid range and allow for exceptional lugability in technical tight technical terrain. it also increased the overev a little and felt smoother up top. ighly recommend it if you are doing woods trails you will really appreciate the bump in low end tractorability. 3- Twin Air filter, not sure I noticed any gains here but I'm sure they would be small if it did. After those mods I feel like this bike is an incredible companion to negotiate about any riding location and it feels stable and confidence inspiring in every situation I've gotten myself into. it truly likes the flowing woods trails and begs to be ridden at a fast pace, it loves to be tossed around at at your every will while in the woods and is dead stable wide open in 5th in the open areas. the power is excellent and delivered predictably. come out of a right turn, Hammer the throttle lift the wheel and float over whoops. I used to get neutral on accident, but that has since stopped, not sure if I adapter or the trans has broken in, but it's a very rare occurrence now days. starts easy cold or hot, but an egg hectic start would be nice for side Hill restarts. to me the clutch feels light and feathery and I use a single finger for it without issue. I have felt a ktm hydraulic and it is lighter, but not by much, not enough that i'd spend the money to change it. I didn't like the peg take angle but fastway adjustable pegs cured that. the seat does get uncomfortable after several hours of riding, but I'm a bigger guy and that might not be an issue for most. all in all I am thrilled with the total overall package of the bike and I look forward to every chance I get to go riding!
Still, I'd love to see them modernize the YZ like the rest of the world is doing. 1. Hydraulic clutches are better. 2. The 250x lacks the low end grunt of the betas and huskies, making the really technical stuff harder, and making the bike easier to stall. 3. Since it stalls so easily, it would be nice to have an electric start. Maybe if it didn't stall so much, I wouldn't mind not having an E-start. 4. If this is really a woods bike, upgrade the stator so that people can run a headlight, or even offer a factory optional headlight. Just a few minor optimizations would make this YZ a bigger winner. The suspension is already great.
This is exactly how I feel about my 2016 Wr450F. After nearly 10 years of not riding and jumping straight onto a brand new Wr450, i've been smiling from ear to ear about how easy it was to get back on the bike and ride. I love it.
I own a 2016 KTM 350 XCF-W Six Days with only 7.7 babied hours and everything in the EFI fuel system just died... ECU... Fuel Pump... Relays all went Kaaaapoooot.... What... $ 11K machine and this much grief.... Anyways... Still own it and it is being repaired as we speak, but, I purchased a new 2018 Yamaha YZ 250X and I can promise you from riding my entire life... At 42 years of age this is the BEST BIKE I have ever owned.... Keep preaching Kyle... Everything you say about this bike is correct, but, what an AWESOME MACHINE.... !!!! Keep up the great work and keep those videos coming... 110% appreciated from Morrisville, NC.... Cheers dude... !!!
Hi Kyle I'm all the way from south africa .. love your channel man. Especially this video 😂😂. I bought a yz 250 in 2007 brand new and only did trail with it. Did do some mods weighed flywheel, Hydrolic clutch, suspension setup, long range fuel tank, full fmf gold series pipe, jetting and a 52 rear sprocket ,18 inch back wheel. The bike is 13 years old and still runs like hell never had a problem. Finished every race . Will never trade it for anything. Maby after your video upgrade to the 2020 model. Enjoy guys
I have the 2017 yz250x and love it! My last bike, yz250f, had the same neutral issue as well, so I'm used to it. It can be annoying but I've adjusted to it and it doesn't happen to often anymore. I dialed in my suspension, put on a magura hydraulic clutch, zipty 3.2 tank, fmf gnarly/ turbine core 2, enduro engineering skid plate, HD tubes, and cycra probend hand guards. Being a long time yz rider I don't see how I could be any more comfortable/ a better rider on a European style bike. When the snow melts I'm going to be trying different gearing for the steep idaho technical trails. Great video and great channel! I'm happy to see someone talking up the bike and not just saying "it's just the same old yz250 blah blah blah..."
@@dcouture79 I sold that bike the year after I bought it and got a 300xcw. Yamaha did the job for me for 20 years but the reality is they just can’t touch the European bikes for the riding I do.
@@Zcasey1932Interesting, I’m going to run the FX for a little while and see how it does. I feel like I’m trying to convince myself it will be fine when deep down I know I need a modern 250/300 two stroke for what and how I want to ride.
Exactly. That’s exactly what makes my life great and enjoyable. Whenever I buy quality products, especially Japanese products, I never have any headaches or issues whatsoever. But whenever I buy cheap, say Chinese made products, shit breaks loose.
When they give this bike a 6th gear, a hydraulic clutch and electric start I will pick one up and never think about a European bike again. Fingers crossed this happens for 2020.
I've been racing my 2016 250x in local hare scrambles and trails for the past year and found the 13t front sprocket and 11oz flywheel weight with the tubeless kit turn it into an absolute tractor. For your fuel tank size problem too I found the IMS 12l tank fits great. I found moving the forks up about a 1/4" in the triple clamps really helped in cornering in the tight stuff. Great riding and reviews too!
Hey Kyle, Yamaha owes you money. I bought the 250x last week and couldn't be happier. I must say your description of the nuances while riding the blue rippah are eerily accurate. Its easy to draw more low end out of it as well. Mototassinari, fmf and stealthy will make it a 300xc eater. Thanks for the review. It saved me $3000 over its ktm counterpart. Not that the 17 orange xc machine isnt amazing cuz it is but, I got a blue smile. It makes me want to rip every day! Oh, the neutral shift issue is shifter location. Just needs an aftermaket with a slightly longer shaft and conventional tranny oil. The stock tubes are redik! I run michellin ultra heavys with an mt16 120. No problem.
I have the 2016 YZ250X and I love it as well. The biggest improvement item I've done on it is have the head milled to fix the squish band. After the head work done, it turned into a tractor down low and still great on the pipe.
I'm glad I came across this comment, I'm looking to buy one soon, one of the things people mention is a low compression head. They milled it larger, do you know much?
Fun Video that brings back 12,000 rpm old school 2 stroke days for me. My YZ slipped out of gear into nutrual while going over triple jump, bad day for me. Life flight, woke up in hospital, but back on race track within weeks. Young MX'ers are crazy
Question everything. Triple was coming out of a sharp turn and not a great distance, perhaps 60 feet. My buddy's and had no issue clearing in second gear. It was easy spot to pass during open practice when novice wouldn't keep speed in turn to set up for triple. Correct, 9k rpm on 250cc 2 stroke. 125 cc is near 12,000 rpm. I often had both. I would also clear that triple on 125, but I had to carry full speed in tight turn and shift body weight toward front wheel to get more blast off ramp power to make it. I Raced MX 14 years in sunny CA. Enjoy!
Really love your channel. Used to ride yz80s when I was a kid. Now 41 decided I missed it and went out and grabbed a fully restored KX125 smoker bored out to 144, lectron carb, hydrolic clutch the works. So happy I am getting back into insanely out of shape but determined to change all that!! Think yz250x will be my next purchase new. Once I fully get comfortable riding again.
That's what bikes used to be. Fun. Now they are hard to work on. This bike makes Yamaha a good brand again. Had a yz 100 as a kid. Loved it. Moved on to husqvarna. Loved them. Great video.
Hitting neutral on accident is definitely a problem with this bike for me, but so far that's the only thing I can really complain about other than the small tank. I love it, especially after the weighted flywheel I put in.
Kyle my first 2 stroke dirt bike I rode was a 73 Yamaha 125 me and a friend rented 2 of them and rode the southern flowy hills of Ohio First time we both found that fun factor of a 2 stroke Love how U guys talk about the fun factor at 60 that's the only thing that matters thx
Spot on review. I jad a 2014 rmz450 and it just wasnt right for me. This video convinced me to buy a 2017 yz250x. Absolutely love it. Best suspension ive ever had ona bike. I do hit neutral often as well but i love the bike. It makes difficult trails easy, and the price was much better than a KTM.
Yep you can chuck a flywheel weight on any 250 2T and it makes a huge difference. Put one on my 07 CR250 and it gave it so much more bottom end and made it less likely to stall out.
I did a rekluse z start witch is an auto clutch don't know if you are familiar with but eliminates need for flywheel weight and i think it makes it feel like a stronger bottom end but some people might hate a rekluse.
Josh Shank I know they have these on the all wheel drive bikes (Christini bikes). This allows you to slip the clutch on the front if need be. Sounded pretty odd to use, but Chris Birch (NZ Hard Enduro) was riding them for a while.
I love it you i race long woods races you never even have to touch the clutch if you don't want to but if you want to use the clutch it is still fully functional. Best upgrade i have ever done.
I bought mine after you put on the episode 2, and I must agree with everything you said about the bike in your videos. For me, the low end grunt (tractor) and the stalling possibility are probably the first thing I want to counter and I'm really thinking about a 9oz flywheel weight. By the way, I think that you are doing an excellent job on reviews and it really helped me take a decision when I was shopping around :) Keep up the good work!
Thanks. Appreciate the good review of the X. I am a Senior class rider and grew up riding all types of 2 strokes in the 70's,80's. Its funny if i really think about it now. That first ride on a real good handling 2T bike back then was all it took to be hooked for life. I still like modern 4T bikes too though. My favorite was a KTM450exc, being barely street legal to get to the good trails out here in the East. I'm in the over 50 class now and you are really making me want to go back to a light fun, smaller engined 2T bike. Face it I was faster on my smaller 2T's in the woods than I ever was my big bore 4T's. Most would agree with me on that I'm sure that have been riding a long time..Great video...oh big agreement on a factory skidplate. Most aftermarkets I have used aren't really made to look and fit that model your riding. I cased out a DRZ400 years ago with an aftermarket and cracked the center case....ugh!! It was a fun day up until then..No wreck and I got it home in a hurry,,leaking oil all over...bummer..It was the way it bolted to the bike that ruined the case which is my point on an OEM skidplate made to fit that model. Excellent point for all manufacturers.
When a friend of mine bought one I thought he was crazy. Why would you buy a 15 year old bike? He just won the Nevada Desert Racing over 30 expert championship on it. I KNOW NOTHING !
Seriously, I just scored a 2011 yz250 with 70 hours with a brand new top/bottom end, new tires and factory connection suspension set for my weight for $2500! I can put the 250x cdi in it, hone the head, change some springs, then use wr gears, switch to an 18inch tire, boom 250x.
A lot of dirt bike riders don't work on their own bikes, let alone modify them. I've got one friend that I've never seen change a tire before he sells it and buys another, but he's also a bit of an idiot.
Well you see unlike you I can afford to buy the bike outright and go rip it for 120 hours a year fir 2 to 3and than put original plastics back on it and than sell and be like oh man I didn't have time to ride you know ! New this and than Boom! Blown up bike hat cost you 4500 and I buy another new 1 to send my credit even higher l.
Got a Clarke 2.8 gallon tank , not too bulky, and 40% increase in capacity. Happy for now. My 2012 YZ250 improved fuel economy by 15%-20% when I installed a 38mm Lectron, and gained a bit more lower end too.
Still, to this day, over 3 years later, no e-start. The number 1 reason why I've never considered getting one. Without e- start, it has nothing on the woods converted YZ250 that I already have.
im buying one cash in February. if the dealer doesnt wanna give me a good deal on initial price, ima ask for hand guards, and skid plate to be thrown in to sweeten the deal and let ya know how tha goes lol. ne safe kyle after the holidays i plan on supporting the channel, you are the best dirtbike channel on youtube. also seem genuine and a great person. see ya on toyr next vid
Your 2nd to 1st neutral drop is very frustrating. However, this goes away quickly. And, when it goes away, you are left with a very strong transmission which will last the life of the bike. A 52 rear sprocket, flywheel weight, and an bigger tank, you will be golden for years on this bike. You can buy a hydro clutch or go with a Rekluse auto - either are great. Your complaints will resolve with time and proper set up.
Thanks for noticing. I can't do all my videos like this one or I would never see my family, but I loved this bike so much I needed to give it a proper showing.
Outstanding video, the 250X is an amazing deal, trying to decide between this and the 17 TE300. Thanks so much for giving the YZ250x the recognition it deserves.
Dirt Bike Channel I also struggled to choose between the 2017 TE 300 and the YX 250x. You can spend a lot trying to bring the Yamaha up to Husky/Ktm standards ( skidplate, handguards, pipe, flywheel weight, etc) and still not get 6th gear, e start, and solid low end torque. It all boils down to where and how you ride. If you primarily ride and enjoy extreme terrain, the KTM/Husky is the better choice. As a factory converted motocross bike, the Y250X belies its heritage. As Kyle says, it is the most fun in many situations, ie everything but really steep and knarly. Figure out where you ride most first. They are both excellent choices.
Thanks for the vid on this bike and articulating the few challenges it comes with. I thought about buying this exact bike but the first second gear neutral issue would drive me over a cliff, no pun intended. I've had bikes like that before and it would happen at the most IN opportune time! Anyway, if you come across a fix for that please let us know. Love your channel, one of the best out there and sometimes I binge watch because you do such a great job. Stay safe my Freind.
Great review Kyle!! Spot on.. The 250x makes me feel 15yrs younger. I've owned it for 14 months and have enjoyed every second.. Best mods so far= 52T sprocket and Lectron carb.. Next up is Beta right??? Lol.
Big fan of your videos. Can't wait for your next video on your 2017 xc 300. I own a 2017 Husky TE 300 and I'm itching to hear more of your personal feed back. keep up the great work.
I'll be doing more of it, but probably won't put out a full review on it till Spring since I don't yet have enough video footage on it. I've got too much snow on the ground now.
To be honest all I see is little change with the yz 250s these days I am a owner of a 2002 yz 250 with the Eric gorr 300 kit and riding it feels like a dream people say they can not feel a difference with the frames I just don't see any true differences
Josh Snyder i have a 2001 yz250 thats going through a whole lift from shock linkage to having a whole spare rebuild kit from the crank up incase i blow it up but so far its not a bad build
First of all I enjoy your videos. But it is your fault I have a 2019 YZ250X sitting in my garage that I bought yesterday waiting for the weekend ride. Seriously thanks for your videos.
Maybe useless to say but each time I put new oil in a transmission, any bike, the shifting greatly improve, even if the oil was just a few rides old. So If you have a bike prone to misshift, it is important to keep the trans oil always fresh. It really makes a big difference. I remember an old KX I had which needed new oil every ride to shift properly... Also worth to notice that the hotter the oil gets, the worst the shifting become. So some situation where the clutch is more needed or where the bike will just heat more, like deep sand, will amplify the problem.
Great wrap up video Kyle, You've done a great job showing the attributes of the YZ 250 X as well as sharing with all of us and hopefully Yamaha what an off-road bike should have. Again, great job on this series of videos!! I am really hopeful I'll see you roll out on a RR 300 race edition Beta soon as I believe these bike while maybe a little heavier on the scale will prove to surprise you. a little more than the Yamaha but cheaper than the KTM and Husky and much better equipped than both. Fingers crossed!! Thanks again for your videos.
A lot of mountain bike companies do the same thing as far as lightweight tubes. It's probably to improve handling and performance when the testers do their eval plus it lets them post a lighter weight for the bike, which a lot of guys seem obsessed about.
Great video, you nailed it on the head, it makes you want to come back for more. I'd probably rank this bike and my 05 Rm 250 as two of the best bikes ever. If you ever get to ride an 05-08 Rm that is set up for woods you would love it too. Out of the three tanks I plan to get the Clarke, I think it looks the best. They're heavy at the start of the ride but it actually gets better than stock in handling at half a tank as the fuel is carried lower(cg) than the stock one. I find the neutral problem is a factor on pretty much any bike when you're bouncing around between 1st and 2nd, it may sound crazy but I began to just ride in 2nd and 3rd and avoid 1st altogether. You feather the clutch and carry more speed overall, I've suggested this technique where most people get faster. A friend told me one benefit of the cable clutch is that you get more feedback on what you're doing. If it's fading, you're working it and maybe not being as effective with your clutch/riding. You don't really know what's going on with hydraulic until the bike is starting to steam on a technical situation. The only nice thing is it self adjusts. The yz is a better suspended, better neutral handling bike overall which makes a huge difference.
Great review Kyle. Since I converted my moto yz to off-road I've gotta agree with the theory to add a couple to the rear sprocket, 9 oz. FWW (I did 11 oz. and the faster I get I wish I wouldn't have went as heavy). Also the pro circuit platinum 2 pipe has been doing well. Looks like you have it armored up which is a must. I've been running vertex top ends with ams oil dominator @40 to 1. Thing is a dream machine. Can't wait to see what mods you decide to try!
I didn’t get the “x” model but I love my 2018 Yz250. It’s so nice, smooth and snappy with the power. It’s awesome for trails but quiet a bit to get used to. Still haven’t been on a track yet but it’s so fun for trails
I had a chance to finally ride one. I found that it is indeed geared too high in 1st, clutch is too heavy for a woods bike, and it needs a flywheel weight for a smoother response and lugging capability. It could use a re-gear, but it would definitely need a FWW after that to smooth out the power. It would be way too aggressive without it. I thought it was very easy to start even after a spill. I still have yet to ride the 300. Awesome channel!
It is easier to neutral because it is still basically a mx transmission, the off-road bikes are normally designed to be harder to neutral because you get more use of 1st gear
Magura make a hydraulic clutch for the YZ. Thinner base gasket and a shaved head and the bottom end is sorted. Yamaha South Africa is busy with an electric start conversion form the bike. Lectron carb much more economical. All the problems solved! Nice review!
Well that lack of low end made me want to reconsider this bike. Couldn't you change your sprocket size to make up for it? And why couldn't they stretch those gas tanks out to lay on the frame right under the seat? You could add another gallon of gas that way, but might have to add a fuel pump. I don't know. I don't know anything about them. But I want to get into trail riding and I'm so passionate about getting started I find myself daydreaming about this sport all day long.
Great video Kyle, its obvious you put a lot of time into it thanks! I wanted to comment that i have 100hrs on my 250x now and still hit neutral usually at the worst possible moments... So I think it is common with the X as you mentioned. As far as the lack of skid plates hand guards ect. I actually kinda like that about Yamaha.. I like to pick my own gear or swap stuff from my previous bike...If the bikes were the same price point I would totally agree., Again awesome video man..
Sir, what is the lighting coil output? I like to ride enduros and the lack of lights and stock gas tank capacity pushes me torwards the Betas and /or KTMs. thank you for your time. Preston
Great job on the video. I have been looking at getting a Beta 2 stroke or the yz250x, you really have made me lean towards the 250x. I have Yamaha dealer (Heinensmotorsport) right in my town and it is walking distance from my place. The closest Beta dealer is in Iowa about 250 miles away, that really might make my decision for me. Thanks. Keep up the good work. There is a new channel I just found called Dirt n Iron, you have to check him out he does a great job on his videos.
This is just like an updated version of the 91 YZWR250 it had a steel frame and the motor was not quite as high hp, (almost) and it had a rep, of hitting hard and sudden. I loved it. but I live in north west Pa. (Read lots of trees) and in my case real hills! I dropped to a 13 tooth front from the stock 14 tooth and it took the dead spot out. It also made clutch work mostly unnecessary. I really loved this bike. you had to be careful about the gas because then you couldn't lug it, it was either on the pipe or coasting. But I never felt like like I needed more power, it was a real beast and I loved every second!
You can buy a magura hydraulic clutch conversion kit for about 350-400$, I have one on my 2014 rmz250. It feels great! All the complaints you have on this bike can be fixed except the electric starter. You can make this bike the best possible bike for you.
2nd gear on the 250X is actually slightly different from the YZ250. Forget how much without my spreadsheet in front of me. I was trying to source WR400 gears for my YZ250 to mix the ratios to build a hybrid narrow/wide range tranny, but wasn't sure how it would work for hare scrambles. Then Yamaha came out with this, which is mostly the same idea I was looking to do, but with the re-worked 2nd. Sounds like it's better than re-gearing the rear with a stock tranny for woods racing, but I've seen a few comments about the 2nd to 3rd gap on the 250X that I wonder if it would be better with the YZ250 original 2nd, or would a big bore, woods ported kit just take care of it.
1000% agree! I'm 56 and haven't ridden a 2stroke since 2007, got caught up the the 4stroke revolution and spent 9yrs looking for the fun, quick 2stroke feeling. Bought the YZ250X, I'm in love! For days after I ride, I'll breakout in giddy laughter about the fun I had. I can't stop smiling! It's a winner! Btw, the front forks, have you messed around with the oil level? i.e. lowering it?
IMO: Downside to KTM/Husky/Beta: only has 5-speeds, gas tank is small (although so is Beta), no lights, so plating it will be more trouble, no hydraulic clutch, lack of power valve tunability, no electric start. Otherwise, no doubt, a great machine. I like blue. I ride a Husaberg TE300. :-)
About to get the YZX. Like tomorrow. No lie. I live at 4200ft. Las Cruces NM. What jets are you running? What mix are you using? Im gonna use Amsoil. 50:1?? Thanks for your informative channel. Ryan Dickensheets.
Just out of curiosity where did you end up with your jetting? I just bought mine in January and guessed on where it should be. I am at 4600ft and ride from there up in temps from 60 to 80. I did a 168 main, 45 pilot, a.s. out 1.75 turns, changed the needle to to a N3cw on the 2nd clip and left the power jet at a #50. I was wondering if that was close to where you are at with yours? Thanks, great videos!
In the area where I live, the Husky's are more expensive and harder to find. I haven't wanted to pay more for a bike that is essentially the same thing. I have usually liked the look of the KTMs better too. Orange was my favorite color even as a boy. I started out on Yamaha and Honda as kid and didn't try a KTM till I was more than 30 years old though.
My dad has a normal 2014 250 and he is making the 250x conversion, the normal 250 is too powerful for the woods, so we did a flywheel and suspension tuning and thing is mint!
Welcome back to 2 strokes some of us never left .
what how : my first bike: Yamaha GT80 1975 2 stroke
Everyone knocks the YZ's not changing much. Maybe because Yamaha got it right a long time ago.
I hear ya. Why bother buying a brand new one, though?
Yeah just buy a 05 or newer they are the same thing as new
Still, I'd love to see them modernize the YZ like the rest of the world is doing.
Yamas are great reliable engine's
Yup. Why break something that works wonders?
It might be a 10 year old frame, but it's like 40 years of engineering the same bike to get to the point it's at now.
10 year old frame but stille better than ktm
@@paahtopro3950 Way better than KTM and who cares about age of the frame when something is built right from the start.
I agree with everything you've said! I love the bike! Hitting neutral is a problem for me as well. GREAT BIKE!!!
That's what makes yamahas, yamahas haha
Luc Deane lol yeah thata true. even my old yz250 does that. when i had a warrior quad it did too, its just a yami problem lol
ha ha I can't count on all my fingers and toes how many times ive come into something technical ready to set up then Bam! neutral. lol
I wondered if it would get better after "break in" but it didn't.
BeRAD dont use clutch when shifting just let off gas
Yeah, this thing is amazing. Not perfect, but what bike is? I love it for what it can do and how it makes me feel when I'm on it.
Exactly, every person I've let ride mine has come off it with a smile. Fun and functional bike!
Do you like the 250X much better? Just put a deposit on a new YZ250FX and wonder if I should be on the 250X instead..
I feel like I’m trying to convince myself it will be fine when deep down I know I need a modern 250/300 two stroke for what and how I want to ride.
if it ain't broke don't fix it
Yessir
Exactly. That’s exactly what makes my life great and enjoyable. Whenever I buy quality products, especially Japanese products, I never have any headaches or issues whatsoever. But whenever I buy cheap, say Chinese made products, shit breaks loose.
This is a raw dirt bike. No frills, hard hitting. It’s an open canvas for whatever you want to do and add to it. That’s the beauty f the YZ’s.
When they give this bike a 6th gear, a hydraulic clutch and electric start I will pick one up and never think about a European bike again. Fingers crossed this happens for 2020.
And lights
Hydraulic clutch yes, 6 speed yes, electric start and battery no.
@@_Bryant.R yes

Electric Start, no battery? 🤣
@@rogermty1971 Ola Amigo. Si. Sin electrico starter, sin battery. Called a kickstart in English.
Thanks for that info.
No problem.
the 2 stroke sounds sweet...I can tell that you're still excited about the bike. You sounded like a kid walking into a toy store. 👍
You know it!
What kind of hand guards are on this 250x?
Dude you have the best example of a Utah accent I've ever heard! Thanks for the sweet content in familiar places, hope to bump into to you some day.
@@XJonAye I kept the stock compression, just changed the squish band. I live near sea level so adding compression wasn't needed for me.
Enjoy!
These videos prove that the manufactures need to get busy on 2 strokes and don't leave out the kick starter & electric , option carb.
Great show mate, very informative as well as entertaining to watch. Keep up the great work!
lectron carb, new reeds, gtube, gear down, 11 oz flywheel, flex bars and recluse clutch is a dream on these bikes
I love the kick stand. So handy can leave my bike anywhere anytime
Even their steel frame was good. I have a fully restored 98 yz250 and love that bike. Even put a lectron carb on it. Wooohooo hold on!
Try a 52T rear sprocket, 9oz flywheel weight and Dep Pipe. Perfect setup
kyleshady21 the DEP pipe, and a gytr flywheel worked really good on my 11 Yz250.
I am in love with my 2015 YZ250F but really...like really want one of these! Thanks for the enthusiastic review.
I bought mine after you put on the episode 2, and I must agree with everything you said about the bike in your videos. For me, the low end grunt (tractor) and the stalling possibility are probably the first thing I want to counter and I'm really thinking about a 9oz flywheel weight. By the way, I think that you are doing an excellent job on reviews and it really helped me take a decision when I was shopping around :)
Keep up the good work!
Glad to have helped.
I KNOW NOTHING !
why would I spend the money on a 2017 when I can get an older one for way cheap and put money into it for what I want it to do
Seriously, I just scored a 2011 yz250 with 70 hours with a brand new top/bottom end, new tires and factory connection suspension set for my weight for $2500!
Daniel La Breche ?
Daniel La Breche that’s the reason I don’t want to buy a used bike lol
Got a Clarke 2.8 gallon tank , not too bulky, and 40% increase in capacity.
Happy for now. My 2012 YZ250 improved fuel economy by 15%-20% when I installed a 38mm Lectron, and gained a bit more lower end too.
2 strokes sound like screaming warriors. 4 strokes sound like the day after a chili cook off
My dad had the first generation of this thing and he loved it
Still, to this day, over 3 years later, no e-start.
I really appreciate it brother. I hope you love it as much as I love mine.
Dirt Bike Channel thanks for all you do on here its great #1 dirtbike channel
Thank you.
so how was the purchase??
dementedspirit1 and how was your purchase
wow, you rediscovered a Yz250 that's been around since the beginning of time
Your 2nd to 1st neutral drop is very frustrating. Your complaints will resolve with time and proper set up.
enduro edition... come on yamaha!!! headlight and tail lights...love the motor
By far your most professional review!!! They r all excellent... but upping your game!!!
Thanks for noticing. I can't do all my videos like this one or I would never see my family, but I loved this bike so much I needed to give it a proper showing.
Love that old mine trail youre riding at 15:52, need to go back there soon
Outstanding video, the 250X is an amazing deal, trying to decide between this and the 17 TE300. Thanks so much for giving the YZ250x the recognition it deserves.
Someone has to, right?
I think I want a yz250x as my next bike! 😍👍
I need more yz 250x videos!!!!
This is my dream bike. I hope I can buy one in a few years. Great video!
I had one and never had an issue with the gearbox or neutral. Its just fine
Great review Kyle!! Spot on.. The 250x makes me feel 15yrs younger. I've owned it for 14 months and have enjoyed every second.. Best mods so far= 52T sprocket and Lectron carb.. Next up is Beta right??? Lol.
I might do an older bike before I try the Beta.
Hey mate, loving the reviews on the yz250x. Left a contact message on your site about your shirts. Cheers
One excellent honest review.
Kudos bro!
I think I'll try to find an older bike to review and hopefully a Beta next year.
No headlight and no e start though, those 2 features would be the icing on the cake.
If hope they never go to electric and just keep the kickstart if your starter goes out or battery you’re f’ed
good to see the channels growing! keep up the good videos!
Slowly but surely.
What is average recommended time between top ends for the YZ250x VS it's 2 stroke woods competitors (Husky, KTM, Gasgas, Sherco, Beta) for woods use?
There is one thing to do to that bike is put a fmf fatty pipe and you will get the low end you want plus more top.
I have the YZ250X and absolutely love it! I agree though that I hit NEUTRAL ALOT! Overall though, the bike is just so much fun to ride.
Why I love my 200 ..so light and with the mods I have 250 like power....I had a woods prepared YZ 250 and it is indeed a sweet bike..
Magura make a hydraulic clutch for the YZ. Thinner base gasket and a shaved head and the bottom end is sorted. Yamaha South Africa is busy with an electric start conversion form the bike. Lectron carb much more economical. All the problems solved! Nice review!
Thanks for the comment.
It’s the same as the wr250. Many people don’t even know that there ever was a wr250 2T. It’s a YZ 250 with taller gears, 18 wheel, headlight, etc.
Watched the video like 7 times love this bike to pick it up next month
Great video Kyle, its obvious you put a lot of time into it thanks! I wanted to comment that i have 100hrs on my 250x now and still hit neutral usually at the worst possible moments... So I think it is common with the X as you mentioned. As far as the lack of skid plates hand guards ect. I actually kinda like that about Yamaha.. I like to pick my own gear or swap stuff from my previous bike...If the bikes were the same price point I would totally agree., Again awesome video man..
Thanks for sharing.
You should compare the 2017 model with the 2007 model for those among us that cannot afford a brand new bike.
That would be very interesting to see!
I hope to get an older bike soon for this very purpose.
Dirt Bike Channel That's awesome haha, very good to hear that :)
Can this bike serve a dual purpose by taking it on the trails one weekend and then to the MX track the next weekend?
Sir,
what is the lighting coil output?
I Love you mannn! im not gay btw
Thanks Tim.
Tim its ok, its 2016. Love all the men you want.
Not if I can help it :)
anytime bud
dude I have that bike too and I absolutely love it
Great review, I really enjoyed this
Had a 76 Yammy MX 400 C when I was 20. Used it to fog for mosquitos around the neighborhood 😂
Could you try softer clutch springs to help with the fast engagement? Love the videos dude!
Want more low end, Kyle? A 300 is the solution naturally.
You can buy a magura hydraulic clutch conversion kit for about 350-400$, I have one on my 2014 rmz250. It feels great! All the complaints you have on this bike can be fixed except the electric starter. You can make this bike the best possible bike for you.
You forgot the 6 speed gearbox, electric start just unwanted weight and a pain in the ass battery. Use your damn leg.
Great review - I can't wait to take a spin on one.
I can't wait for the snow to melt a bit so that I can break it out again :)
great review & spot on , but like you said , it's a bike you don't want to put away , l luv mine too 😆
2nd gear on the 250X is actually slightly different from the YZ250.
2- Stroke for life!!!
Had the same feeling with my old 08 rm 250
Great great great vid!! What are your thoughts about other accessories....lights?? Thoughts Honda?
1000% agree! I'm 56 and haven't ridden a 2stroke since 2007, got caught up the the 4stroke revolution and spent 9yrs looking for the fun, quick 2stroke feeling. Bought the YZ250X, I'm in love! For days after I ride, I'll breakout in giddy laughter about the fun I had. I can't stop smiling! It's a winner! Btw, the front forks, have you messed around with the oil level? i.e. lowering it?
Glad you love it! I have only adjusted the clickers on mine.
I’ve noticed that the Euro 2t’s sound more mellow, while the Yamaha has the “angry can of bees” sound. I hate bees.
Can I ask where you ended up on the fork settings Kyle?
why do u ride ktm and not huskvana there the same bike pretty much besides suspension and tires??
Jake Allen maybe he likes orange
In the area where I live, the Husky's are more expensive and harder to find. I haven't wanted to pay more for a bike that is essentially the same thing. I have usually liked the look of the KTMs better too. Orange was my favorite color even as a boy. I started out on Yamaha and Honda as kid and didn't try a KTM till I was more than 30 years old though.
17 is the first year I think the Huskys look way better than the KTMs.
Dirt Bike Channel ok whats the rough price on the ktm vs huski in your area?? keep the vids up by the way
that probably why buying a husky would be foolish since there are virtually the same....kyle has to buy these, they are not free...
My dad has a normal 2014 250 and he is making the 250x conversion, the normal 250 is too powerful for the woods, so we did a flywheel and suspension tuning and thing is mint!
Nice work.
