The immature flavivirus and its collapse into infectious particles - A/Prof Coulibaly

Binjari virus is a flavivirus isolated in Australia from infected mosquitos. The structure of Binjari virus reveals an immature-like organisation, which has remained elusive for global flavivirus pathogens like dengue, yellow fever or Zika virus.
This provides the first complete view of a flavivirus particle before it gains infectivity and represents a new blueprint for the design of better vaccines.
An unexpected organisation of the projecting spikes is incompatible with previous models of maturation. This video presents a new model where a guided collapse of the spike is key to infectivity.
The transition is successively shown from the outside and inside of the particle before a side-by-side comparison.
