Coming from a CAD design background, I am just about to try graphic design using Adobe Illustrator for the first time in my life. Mainly to design text and logos etc for CNC milling/engraving operations, as the text options on most CAD software is VERY basic and limited. After watching a heap of your tutorials Tom, I no longer fear Illustrator and will make the leap full of confidence! Your tutorials are absolute GOLD!! The speed at which you talk, move your cursor, the subject matter and lastly the shear volume of quality info you post is perfect. You are an excellent teacher Tom, keep it up mate! Jed from Australia 🇦🇺
wow that is an awesome comment to read Jed. Glad to hear that you are getting used to Illustrator, it's just a matter of time before a user picks up a rhythm and confidence with the software :)
From all the ILLUSTRATOR tutorials videos that I have seen... you are the most crips, smooth, undestandable chanel. Your videos have improve my desing and profesionalism.
No lie, in the middle of watching this video I got a call from a friend wanting me to possibly do a logo for her company. This video came right on time! Very useful information. I've been having a lot a confusion lately about how to correctly save my files. Thanks a lot, blessing!
Satori Graphics Thanks! 😄 She has a service for autism awareness/assistance for adults. A lot of these types of programs have logos with outstretched hands or figures hugging, so we're definitely working on making it stands out from the rest. I'll be doing some research of course. 👍
Wow! Thanx for the great tips. I have not done a lot of logo work for clients so far, but I've never heard anyone mention the point you spoke about. I found this video very timely, informative and insightful. Keep up the great work, Satori!
I love checklists and this is the hottest new entry in my Hall of Fame for years! Thank you, Master Tom, for your time and motivation to show us these important steps. :-) Here is a refreshing cup of tea for you! Take care...
List type videos, or checklists, do very well n my channel. So I think I will make more of them in the future. Oh, I am humble and not a master lol, I learn new things about design and Illustrator from time to time too. But I will drink your cup of tea and remain humble :P Thanks and have a great day
Sorry that I called you master, I did not mean to embarrass you. And if I think carefully 'Master' does not hit the right point either. More fitting is: a fine guy with a sensitivity for aesthetic design! And it goes with fine music if you like it. th-cam.com/video/gr0fLPPc6JY/w-d-xo.html Enjoy listening.
Awesome tips Sir Tom. I know I have to work on the first tip a bit more. I believe you mentioned it in another video of yours some time back. I'll make sure I keep this tip in the forefront of my mind. Have a great day sir.
Been listening to designers scream about this stuff for years. So thankfully, I have not been guilty of any of these mistakes for many years. Great vids and beginners definitely need to know these tips.
...one thing I will add is that I do not like using the clean up anchor points tool. I prefer to design my logos with as few anchor points as possible by starting out the design with my number of points in mind. I have many techniques I employ to make a design the fewest points as possible.
An example would be your example logo with the cursive typeface style. I would have used the pen tools to draw those paths manually to get fewer points as possible. That way I have complete control of every path. With paths that have straight lines I will delete any unnecessary points manually with the delete anchor point tool.
What would be the best place to start in regards to the color mode .. If the client wants to design an entire package web, business cards, print media and so on. If I start a new document in RGB .. then how do I optimize for print?
Basic stuff! I cringe when I see a doc meant for print in rgb colour space :/ People do it though! Great video though, thank you :) If not done already, perhaps consider doing a video on the basics of creating a logo, i.e. Industry research, Pantone allocation for print, brand identity thought process and application, etc...
it would take me a long time to make such a video / series, and right now I don't have enough time. But, it is on the radar for when I do have enough time
whats the point of reducing how many anchor points there is, since whoever prints it should be able to have enough processing power to do it right anyway, is it ethics of keeping logo tidy and clean or something else just curious as to why ? round tool was helpfull tip as well.
Hello Satori, would you be that kind and answer my question? I have heard from many people that PNG is the preffered format for website, however if you use SVG instead, you save like 90% or more of memory and therefore your website performs better. Is there any advantage of PNG that I am not aware of? Thank you
In addition to that, SVG is scaleable so you don't need to worry about size. This is very useful for all the different devices that requires different sizes.
sometimes when i use the pathfinder to divide multiple objects , it often creates some kind of thin paths and dots and areas between them, which arent there normaly...why does this happens?
Well it all depends on your budget. I pay monthly for mine, and for me that's all good. It's nice to have the knowledge that what ever upgrades and updates Adobe makes, I will have them more or less automatically with CC. But if your budget cannot allow for it, or if it's tight, maybe you need to weigh up the pros and the cons. Thanks for the compliments too, have a great day ✌
can you give a help or tip? We have a supermart the logo that we have is only a name. Its "Tan Hok Supermart", my cousin wants me to make a logo for our family business. I can't think if I'm gonna use a new logo type or a text logo again? if ever which site I can get some vector images for grocery that I can use or at least as guide. thanks for the help
Hey, you rally nee to start making ideas on paper first, and then make the vectors from there. If you cannot make the vectors due to not being advanced enough with Illustrator tools, look on places like Freepik, Vecteezy, and so forth.

Good tutorial...... 😍 I noticed all your videos ...you are facing not straight you are facing to your right side 😊
It's actually my left side lol, I don't like sitting and being straight on to the camera much for some reason

Send PDF file for printing process.. never use png if you have vector art. Png will hard to print sometime . Anyway this is helpfull.. :) cheers..
Important tips.
Can you do a tut on full brand identity?
The Adongo That needs to be a 5 videos series. It would be glowing!🤓
But helpful to guys out there
The Adongo First step: Ideation.
it would take me a long time to make such a video / series, and right now I don't have enough time. But, it is on the radar for when I do have enough time
I will be waiting
Nice tutorial! It's useful 👍
Thanks as always, and hope you are doing well and good over there Vishakha
Thanks a lot....sir keep it up...
Thanks bro :D
The best file to send to a client or to production is a PDF. Based on my own experience.
Probably best to send 4,5 or even 6 file formats of the same logo to a client
Only one format ? Wouldn't do that
whats the point of reducing how many anchor points there is, since whoever prints it should be able to have enough processing power to do it right anyway, is it ethics of keeping logo tidy and clean or something else just curious as to why ? round tool was helpfull tip as well.
HI can I ask a question regarding the fonts
Hello Satori,

Hi Tom, Love your videos, Can you tell me is it worth upgrading from CS6 to CC? Still in 2 minds about it.
Well it all depends on your budget. I pay monthly for mine, and for me that's all good. It's nice to have the knowledge that what ever upgrades and updates Adobe makes, I will have them more or less automatically with CC. Thanks for the compliments too, have a great day ✌
Thank you!
i have been following your tutorials as well as tutorials on other channels but still my logos are getting 1 star. should i stop designing logos?
great
Thanks
How do you know you have good and helpful videos? There is mostly Satori graphics and The futur videos on my Graphic design playlist.
That is awesome to read, and I am always happy to help :)
+Satori Graphics, thank you ❤️

Gb man
curious question: is there a reason to merge vs unite in Illustrator?
I believe that uniting will delete all interior paths, leaving just one outer vector path. Merging keeps the inner paths as well
good
What's the name of this font, or is it custom
You mean the hand lettering? Yeah that is customised logotype I am afraid
Had 4
can't we expend the fonts, sir??
u should give the number of tips to understand
That is a good idea and I do that on many of my videos, thank you for the suggestion
❤😘😍
Excellent, functional, real world tips!
Always trying to push out useful content on this channel, so I appreciate your feedback man
Thank you!
