I loved Baltar and hated him at the same time, and that's amazing, he was such a complex character, that loving and hating him was possible. I absolutely loved James Callis portrayal of this conflicted, misunderstood, scientific figure who undergoes a whole spiritual journey, whilst defying death at every turn. I think the thing that got with him was, he acted like a genuine civilian would in those situations. He wasn't a viper jock who wants to dive head first into battle, he was a man that was afraid of combat, but was willing to fight for his life if the situation demanded it. It's really nice to actually see him off set, he seems like a very smart, witty and charismatic man.
Originally they wanted Jon Cryer for Baltar. In the casting process most shows tend to use what they call "types" as shorthand. Mary McDonnell was the type they were looking for when they cast Laura, for example. That time they actually got her but that's rare. So Jon Cryer was the actor they used as shorthand for Baltar. But he passed up the audition for the Two and a Half Men audition. There are union rules about that believe it or not. It's a little complicated honestly, but essentially he had to pass up the chance to be in one to get the chance to be in another. I can very much imagine Jon Cryer as Baltar. I think he'd have been great. I'm glad it shook out the way it did though. Callis is awesome.
It was the Paley Center's panel for BSG in... I wanna say 2006. They did put out a DVD- I think I had to go to the Paley Center and physically buy one. (Not sure they sell them online even)
It's funny because he originally didn't want to be the guy with a cape for Gaius Baltar, but he is literally the son of Dracula, the icon of capes, in Castlevania.
He is the best choice, at first you are disappointed because he is nothing like the old baltar, but then you get accustomed and begin to love him as your favorite character.
Donald Trump's election is actually the most scrutinized and vetted election in all of American history. No other President has ever had a 2 year FBI investigation into their campaign before
I think the acting is generally pretty good in battlestar... i quite like the guy who plays tigh too. But Callis is the best - who can forget the classic scene in series one when he is literally caught with his pants down - not many actors could have pulled that off without it being seedy, instead of funny.
OMFG!!!! The person IS the character!
Baltar was played brilliantly. I couldn't imagine anyone pulling off the role better than Callis did. He's a vastly underrated actor.
@vorrifmn not great because of that, but great nonetheless

He was freaking amazing.
He was excellent as Baltar. I liked him and hated in the same moment : )
I'm so glad he got to be the creepy guy in the cape. :D
Love James Callis! He is THE man :)
Hahaha i love James..he's just as amazing off-set and on! I love how he's got all the lovely ladies laughing that charmer!
He would be a great Loki.
And the otherway around, Tom Hiddleston would be a great Baltar. If they would make a new series.
two minutes of pure fun. Thanks Gaius...

Oh god no. I can't picture anybody else playing Baltat tbh, not even Daniel Day Lewis for gods sakes.
McDonnell's role was literally written for her, so that's why she was such a great fit.
I challenge anyone else to shout butterfingers and have it be the best moment of an entire series
Jon Cryer as Baltar is just about the worst idea i can possibly think of. He's the least charismatic man on Earth
What convention / Q&A is this from? I would love to watch the entire set!
Thanks
