Thanx again Robert for this second, in-depth, review! Just a quick update for everyone. Unbox therapy has just dropped a “REVIEW” of this same projector: NO PRICE mention, ONLY POSITIVE feedbacks. I’ve had mine for 3 weeks and is the best purchase I’ve made all year, it actually does have amazing picture quality even during the day and it’s morning rn with the sun coming through the window on just the wall I’m watching it on and it still looks better than a tv if anything looks high def to me personally, and they fixed the auto adjust so it works now no problem, they literally send updates, and it’s a smart tv… has a Netflix Disney plus and prime video button on the controller… Personally see it as beyond worth the money, unless it’s built in like this personally I worry about audio to video lag that I’ve had with other projectors trying to do Bluetooth or plug in on a few I’ve tried but haven’t experienced that even once since I’ve had the freestyle As an owner of one and regular user personally see this as the most nit picking review that is really just a comparison between a smart tv projector and a projector that not a smart tv
I feel like an honest look at the practical implications of the stand on the freestyle would have been good. Ceiling usage isn’t the issue at all. Projector users have no issues with that. The freestyle stand on a better projector would be a game changer for me. The ability to pick angles to project in odd places in a form that has a good centre of gravity is pretty unique. I’d love to do away with the external tripod, and be able to scale the image smaller to fit a section of wall for my convenience, not me adapting to the limitations of a box. Unfortunately the projector itself isn’t much to write home about. It’s a shame the stand was glossed over. It’s literally the root of the identity of the freestyle.
I just received my Samsung Freestyle. I'm not sure if it's the best projector for the price, but it works well for me and fits my needs. I wasn't looking for something overly complicated to replace a TV screen but rather something I could take on trips and use in my office. I can't emphasize that the software and app compatibility makes this just simply easy to use which I value more than anything else. I'm sure there are 4K projectors that I would find better suited for my movie theater but having the ability to toss this in my toddlers room and have her play her content on it is worth the price of entry.
I really appreciate this very open and honest approach to reviewing. Between you and vacuum wars, you guys continue to provide a finally unbiased opinion to what seems to be a bought out market of “reviewers”.
@@TheHookUp Your review is one of the best I have ever seen on TH-cam. Great work and especially covering fan noise, an important issue missed by so many reviewers.
Rob, you have gone above and beyond for this comparison review! Last weekend my kids and I turned on our Mogo Pro and watched Encatno (for the 10th time) and we had a great time! Screen quality was awesome and the speaker sound was great for the bedroom. I have mine mounted on a tripod and it is super easy to move around. Still waiting on my Freestyle but I can definitely give a recommendation for XGimi projectors.
You got my trust and me as a new subscriber. This is how a review should be: through, efficient, fair. Excellent video. Must have taken a few days to put this all together.
I’m not gonna lie, this is the best tech review video I’ve watched. Simply stated, easy to follow, and completely unbiased. Saw some ads for the Freestyle and thought it looked pretty cool so I went to watch some videos from other tech channels and noticed they were all sponsored. Glad you made this and saved me from a subpar $900 projector, might look into that Halo+ more now though lol
The problem with ceiling projection is that often the ports are on the back and therefore obstruct the projector from lying flat. That's why the Benq gv30 or Samsung freestyle are a better design. Originally I also didn't like the freestyle's lack of a battery but since batteries wear out and can even damage other parts if they begin to bulge, I realized I actually prefer them externally (and the freestyle has a battery base now). The freestyle also has a light socket mount which is useful for mounting on a ceiling or using a standing lamp base as a sort of tripod, which is pretty nifty. However I do agree that the price is rather steep. The low brightness is problematic for sure. I really like the efficiency rating in another of your videos, but I'd also like to see that compared to size and weight (I think there are fairly hard limits as to what's technologically possible with today's light sources). Remote control lag is definitely a major issue as well, and I think might be the biggest oversight. While generally integrated smart TV platforms are much worse than TV sticks/dongles, I think integrated compatibility is much more important in a portable device than any TV. It's actually where I like the fact that the Benq gv30 has a replaceable/upgradable smart module which should help out longevity immensely, however it has the same Netflix problem. I bought the Xgimi H1 projector and software support has been extremely minimal, especially compared to early promises. While the H1 is otherwise still working well, and I definitely feel like I've been getting my money's worth, I'd hesitate to shop outside of the big name brands in the future just based on after-sales software support (I guess that's how brands justify their premium prices).
You've definitely earned yourself another subscriber and a like! Your comparisons were clear and accurate, you covered technical details that the paid reviewers avoided, no time was wasted on small talk or opinions, and you gave me something of value BEFORE asking for my like and subscribe. Most of all, you saved me from a purchase that would have aggravated me all summer long. I was eyeballing this for movie night at camp, but the only advantage this has over my current projector is the auto keystone correction, otherwise it's the same faint image with so-so sound that needs cords, all of which I already struggled with last season. Many, many thanks for your thorough review! You can count on me scrolling through more of your content from here on.
You make valid points, but not really unbiased. It feels like you're trying too hard to maintain your word from the other video, but you're not being completely fair. For instance, how you stressed the battery issue with the freestyle but completely ignored the fact that you had to use a tripod so that the other projectors could be as flexible as to where they can project. The tripod then adds to weight, cost, portability and overall usability of the Xgimi projectors. Furthermore, with the Xgimi projectors, you can't really project perpendicularly to the ceiling because the fans are on the back of the projectors and that is likely to void warranty. Another thing is about stating that the Halo can do AirPlay via AirScreen: that is totally misleading, AirScreen is awful, AirPlay is great. The two thins are not comparable at all. Disclaimer: I appreciated your thorough comparison and I actually cancelled my FreeStyle pre-order and instead bought a XGiMi Halo+ together with a Joby GorillaPod 3k to make up for the lack of a swiveling design. I just felt that I couldn't really trust your content due to the reasons above and I then started second guessing some of your claims. That being said, what you showed around picture quality and brightness (which is what ultimately made me change my mind) seems pretty convincing and unaltered.
I agree airscreen sucks, I did mention how much better airplay is in the video, but I could have put more emphasis on it. I do however think that chromecast is the better implementation for most use cases since you can't airplay netflix, hulu, hbomax, or disney+. I think that with some inevitable discounts the freestyle might be the right choice for a select group of people and use cases, but my issue is with how misleading a lot of the sponsored content is. Personally, I'd much rather have an external tripod and built in battery than an external battery and built in tripod in 90% of situations, but I understand some people's use cases are different.
@@TheHookUp fully agree that the sponsored reviews were shady at best, and I'm grateful I stumbled across yours when specifically looking for something that wasn't sponsored. Also agreed regarding the use cases, in my specific situation I need that flexibility and I will make up for it with the tripod. Just would have appreciated your content even more if you had fully compared apples to apples (i.e. battery as an add-on vs tripod as an add-on). It just didn't feel fair for what was, otherwise, a fantastic review. Also, my boyfriend and I had to put up your video on a 120" screen to see how you were projecting at those angles! And then spent hours trying to figure out which tripod would work for us (our problem of course, not yours). Btw, on my way right now to collect my brand new Halo+ ;)
One funny addition that I posted on twitter but didn't include in the video: For some of the b-roll that I shot I needed to use a tripod with the freestyle (to get to the correct height without keystoning), but because it doesn't have a tripod mount I ended up putting the halo+ on the tripod and then setting the freestyle on top of it. lol.
Anytime someone clearly declares what they stand to gain, they gain my trust. In this case they did a phenomenal job in doing an honest and thorough assessment of value of a over-hyped product. Bravo 👍 & thank you ✌️
Thank you for the two videos dedicated to the Samsung Freestyle projector. I pre-ordered it a little impulsively, and while I had to wait for it to be shipped, I checked the parameters and became frustrated that most probably I had made a mistake. Then I saw your first video, and I decided to cancel the order. I would like to thank you for that. I ended up buying Epson Epiqvision Mini EF12 and I am super happy with it. I am shocked how the paid reviewers managed to trick me.
@Madonna Moya It is great. The only complaint I have is that Android TV has no Netflix app. But if I want to watch it, I just connect my phone. Everything else I can watch from the projector itself. It is very compact and it does not have the rainbow effect because it is has 3 independent LCD matrices. And of course it automatically determines the keystone correction of the image.
@Madonna Moya It does support 4K content, but the image is Full HD (1080p). Therefore, the image you are going to get would have lower resolution thank 4k. For me it is completely enough. Everything depends on the budget. I think that there are some nice projectors that are 4k, but they are expectedly more expensive.
I'm glad I found this video. Thank you for your honest review. The video was long, but so easy to watch. Pretty interesting review and you have a good and calm voice for videos..👌
Well I didn't pay $799 retail, but did snag one for less than $500 and I am enjoying it as my 1st projector mainly using it outdoors in full darkness. Great video 👍
I was really debating getting the freestyle since I've never seen anything like it but after reading the reviews on the Samsung website I decided to see a youtube review so I could judge for myself and I want to thank you for the detailed review. I was really unaware of how much I would have been 'robbed' if I got the freestyle.
Most of what you’re really paying for is the smart tv part, and the fact that they do updates as they would for smart tvs, at that point also personally don’t get what he’s talking about with the picture quality, currently have the sun on the wall I’m watching Rick and morty on and it still looks like a vibrant high def tv my dude… if you need better than you must have some type of special eyes
@@dylanmiller6335 You can get a smart tv stick for next to nothing though. Shouldn't be paying a lot for the smart tech since the processing power is very low and cheap comparatively. Haven't had any device with as little support or updates than my Samsung smart vacuum so I wouldn't hold my breath.
As a long term subscriber, I really root for your work and your effort to provide quality reviews. You are engaged as you - or family members - are about to use these products you present. Thank you for treating us as someone you care about!
Just want to point out, this video has lots of meaningful comparisons, but missing some of other main comparisons. 1. Ceiling projection isn't the issue for other projectors, but 30~60 deg slanted projection should be mentioned against boxy cubic projectors. 2. I don't know, did I miss or did he not mention the phone mirroring, on tab function from the Freestyle to other comparisons? 3. Did he mention the voice control from Samsung Freestyle? What about the remote controlling from the smartphones? 4. Prices of a product does not always are justified by the key functions of the product itself. For instance, those Chanel, Hemes, LV wallets don't practically work better than some $30~$50 minimalist wallets. But, why do people crave at them? Product that looks cool just has value of itself as well. Not saying that $900 is still justified, but should be remembered that these consumer minds.
Fair points. 1. 30-60 degree projection angles are a pretty bad idea, at that point you are reducing the resolution of your projector by roughly half using digital keystone. 2. There's a section in there about mirroring, dex and airplay for the freestyle, chromecast and airscreen for the xgimi projectors. 3. Freestyle has Alexa or Bixby, xgimi projectors have google assistant. 4. I also think spending tons of money on Chanel, Hemes and LV is silly, but I'm not sure that Samsung has the same clout as those companies.
To be honest, with a few iterations of this product, the price of this Freestyle could be justified with the specs. Just like the first Samsung Fold, this is kind of a test run. I can't wait to see what Samsung does to improve this.
Why charge the general public $900 to test run your product? They are using you, your time, and your money to collect data only to make more money for their shareholders, it's shameful, not justified. They should pay everyone $900 to test them and report the results
In a perfect world, this would be the type of Expert Review we should always find on TH-cam. You really tested the devices at length. We rarely see such an extensive review of similar products. MERCI. The amount of tech and spec details and comparative analysis is very useful. I wish you could be involved in QA testing all the major brands before they release products to keep them honest. ;-)
Thanks for biting the bullet on this one and buying a unit to *properly* review for the world. Your honesty and transparency are a breath of fresh air in this hyper-competitive world 👍
Interesting review. In Canada the Halo+ is 1468 dollars which is quite a bit more then the freestyle’s 1149 dollar price tag. Also the Halo+ is advertised as 900 ANSI lumens but you measured it much lower. Could this indicate something is wrong with your measuring method? There is something to be said for design appeal and home integration. The freestyle is something you could easily tuck away on a shelf or end table and quickly pop out. The other ones are super ugly in my opinion. Freestyle also has Alexa built in. At the end of the day while they all are projectors they are positioned differently in the space.
It's crazy that all the tech channels I used to love just don't do reviews like this anymore (100% honest reviews). They're more interested in pushing hype trains for views and omitting glaring problems so as not to turn people away from their channel, while not technically recommending the product by the end of the video. Telling me they know what they're doing, but they stop short of telling you to wait or to just not buy something. And these channel amass millions of subs because they don't offer any kind of opinion for someone to disagree with. It's cowardly, and will never allow one to run a channel exactly how they want or amass the loyal sub base that fiew deserve these days... very long winded but thanks for your review, new sub here for sure!
I think the only point which was missed was you can rotate the device and rest of the devices can't be rotated. Which has a little advantage. I have ordered one and let's see how the experience goes. There are few reasons why I ordered it. Your video focus was different. The device suits me, the reason as I don't want to buy a screen which costs money. Depending I have 150 to 500 pounds. Samsung says it will be fine on the wall. I can mirror it from my telly as I have a Samsung telly. I can dim the light little bit but I will be disappointed if the room has to be very dark. I do will check how my ps5 works on it. The only things which is putting me off in the lag in the software. As I guess the processing is not powerful enough. But for these reasons the device suits me. I am not bothered about it's not having a battery as my purpose is very limited. If the device display is not good on the wall then I will simply return it. I think it depends on each user and what things they are focused on
@@dreams_unlimited129 I know. I wouldn’t consider it for the initial price, but now for a half of that it seems like an interesting choice for my first projector. Thanks for replying.
Only correction I was looking for you testing the mogo pro and halo + and what a surprise! They are tested here! Thank you! You should have put their name in the title of the video. Thank you for the great work.
What you hoped to gain has been achieved: you have my trust, and I subscribed! I had no doubt the Freestyle projector was trash and I'm even a Samsung fanboy.
Thank you for your ethics and putting this out there. I’d be interested in seeing additional small projector reviews as you have built out a nice comparison framework.
Thx Rob - appreciate all the facts and detail you went into and thanks for sticking to your principles! I generally like Samsung products and hate it when any big tech company plays this game!
I came here disgruntled because I had preordered the Freestyle. Most of the "it's not worth it" comparisons were made against the Freestyle citing full, standard and non-portable projectors. Thanks for making comparisons that I'd actually consider comparable. I've canceled my preorder and am looking for alternatives.
@@sarahtalkstrauma Ended up ordering the BenQ GS50. Similar in price but better in performance. Some stuff comparable that are cheaper still, but you might should take a look at the BenQ.
@@griffinfisher2126 400 USD directly from Samsung with free battery, skin and carrying case . I really love it . Tizen is so much stable now and if you have a Samsung smartphone it's a dream . Love playing ps5 remoteplay on this thing .
This extremely thorough review was helpful but I wanted to share the reasons why I decided to Purchase a Samsung Freestyle regardless. #1 - Battery life. The MoGo pro as reviewed had a battery life of around 1 hour before it lost brightness. So basically if you buy this projector and want to be mobile, you'll need a battery pack to make it through a long feature film. So it's on par with the freestyle in that respect. This left me up against the Halo+ or other projectors on the market: BenQ and the Anker models. I went through them all but was still drawn in by ... #2 - This is important and I think many reviews overlook the depth of reviewing the SOFTWARE! Think about why people chose an iphone over an android (or vice versa).. Software is so important. Personally, I'm not going to buy a projector and expect my wife (who is less tech savvy than myself) to plug in a laptop or hack around to get netflix streaming for the kids. An obvious question I could see her asking.. you spent $1000 on a projector but it doesn't have Netflix!? Depending where you read the XGimi has the ability to play netflix but many forums are reporting it barely works now (many people say it just doesn't work at all anymore). I wasn't going to risk spending $1000 on a projector which wasn't accredited with native netflix software. So.. My Samsung Freestyle arrived today. Sure, as reported it doesn't work 'well' during the day but during the evening/twilight it's outstanding which was all I wanted it for. It projects very well onto a white wall at 3m away, the vibrancy and sound is brilliant. I was shocked. The reviews really created some doubts but those are totally overcome and I think it's absolutely worth the money. My kids are even capable of using the remote and software... Looking up a TH-cam clip is as easy as speaking in to the microphone, viewing a netflix just WORKS, downloading the latest Disney movie or browsing easily through TH-cam works.. The sound is great too. I'm yet to purchase a battery pack but for now plugging in isn't such a problem but there are some reports Samsung is going to release one that attaches directly underneath the projector to extend the base. That'll be handy! I hope my *opinion* helps somebody. It's just my opinion and clearly netflix was more important to me than most people might think. I guess a review is here to help everyone decide what works for them after the facts are outlined so it's absolutely served it's purpose. The wife is happy. I'm happy. Thanks @The Hook Up
Good honest review! The only thing you didn't think about is even though you can use all the projectors to watch it on the ceiling the big limitation with both the xgimi projectors is you would not be able to plug anything into the back of the projector while using it on the ceiling.
Thank you for keeping it real and giving objective compassion data to state your point, very well done. I have long learned not to pay much attention to "first look" sponsored videos that don't include negative points, just a spec reading. I always wait for actual reviews like this one
Appreciate the detailed and honest review, keeping my pre-order as of now. Getting it for 450 €, think that's a fair price(?) I expected a bit more for that MSRP though. 🥴
I appreciate your video but I will mention that not all projectors can present on the ceiling. Most say this will void the warranty and on most of these projectors, the fan is in the back like the nebula Anker mars 2. I don't think propping up a corner is going to cut it to give enough space to vent like you did in the video. Also, how do you project onto a top portion of the wall for instance? Not sure a tripod with articulating head really suffices.
Yep, both the Halo+ and MoGo pro (as well as 90% of other portable projectors I've tested) have standard tripod mounts on the bottom, so there's no limit to where they can be projected.
@@TheHookUp kind advice to maybe include this into the video, so people don't try to put projectors on the back, like you did in the video.(and run into overheat problems). Just saying.
My Freestyle was on pre order, got an email saying it was delayed and will ship "in the coming weeks"... Glad to see this video I'm cancelling in the morning if I can 👀
I would like to thank you very much for this honest and quite comprehensive review and now I understand why the price of the product came down from $899 to just $99. From what I understood your major complain regarding this product was the performance and the promises made were not matching the price tag and thus now that the price tag has been completely slashed and the product is just being given away for almost close to nothing, I think I will get it as my first experience with a projector as I don't even have a TV. And I don't plan to do any serious TV watching or gaming.
Thank you for the first actual review of the Freestyle. I initially pre-orded the freestyle with all the hype paid promotions but since have cancelled as definitely not worth £1000 even with the free buds and case (which should come as standard) You've gained a subscriber 😎
Since XGiMi sent you the projectors, I do worry about the possibility of treating them nice in the review, although it did seem like most of these tests were objective results. But I will sub to watch your other content, because I REALLY appreciate people who don't take sponsored videos. It's very important to make sure ether isn't a bias involved. Thanks for the video and keep it up! You got a sub, like, and comment from me!
Yes, it was definitely biased. Not as much as others, granted - but pro-XGiMi was evident 100%. Almost passive aggressive towards Samsung? Maybe he’s has a bad experience in the past. Who knows.
I am amongst your biggest fan simply coz of the sincerity of your content and without been biased and uncompromised. You stand true to calling spade a spade and not being a favourite to any company/brand but a true confidante for your most important VIEWERS 😊
Excellent job with this video being absolutely fair in describing this product. You truly took the time and effort to highlight the key features. Liked and subbed! We need more reviewers like this who take time and make genuine effort to keep the public aware of the “hyped product” through paid ads and TH-camrs who just focus on lining their pockets with money and paid reviews which end up enticing people to waste their hard earned money on useless products like the freestyle when they’re are much better options out there. Kudos on the review and the public service! Keep up the good work!
Wow..TY. glad I checked THIS video out. I am all about my samsung products, but this helped me to open my eyes to a better projector. My finger was literally on the trigger until this review.😊
Great video mate! Question: I would probably use the projector on my ceiling 9/10 times. It is possible to lay the XGiMis on their back, but if you meanwhile want to plug in cords I assume that is not possible? Either way it seems cumbersome. Also, AirPlay is a huge plus for me which the Freestyle seems to do the best. What would you buy if you're a ceiling projecting airplay user? 😅
I have to agree with most of the comments made, this saved me from making a bad purchase. I was so close to buying the freestyle and think I got caught up in all the hype! After watching this and seeing a non-biased review I’ve purchased the Halo+
Great review. Hopefully more people will see this. I got a small cheap projector for Christmas a few years ago and I would say it beats that projector, but it still uses a traditional monitor 120v plug. On the good side is by comparison my basic cheap projector was only about $100-150. Works for what I use it for.
I was super excited when I saw this at CES but these are all very valid concerns that change my opinion on this being a worthwhile product. Thanks for the honest review rather than schilling for big tech, happy new subscriber to your content
I appreciate this review. I actually purchased the freestyle for 799$. This review helped me to realize this was a decent purchase for the price. It does everything I need it to do when compared to the other projectors without having to worry about the inconveniences he mentioned. Thank you for this review.
When Samsung released this projector I thought they were joking based on the specs and price. I had a ZTE spro 2 and that thing was an amazing little projector and mind you it was released in 2015. It had a built-in battery, keystone correction, 200 ansi lumens and the Google play store. Yes it only had a 720p resolution but it never bothered me. The ansi lumens were a bit low but it had great contrast so i think it would be very comparable in brightness with this thing. You could stream any apps and games that you wanted. The price for it back then for wifi only was like 400 and they also had an LTE model for like 100 more. This thing is way overpriced.
This is a REALLY in-depth review, and I think I can agree with you on this, but I want to share some of the things I like of the Freestyle that the other projectors didn't seem to have, such as doubling as at RBG Speaker and having a light fixture mount for displaying things onto a desk. All-in-all tho, I do wish it was a little cheaper. Nonetheless, it is a great product in every aspect EXCEPT the value. I also like how it has a 180° Stand that most projectors just, don't have. It is also Samsung's first time making a compact consumer projector and I think they'll learn from their mistakes and reiterate better next time. But, only time will tell.
Wow thanks for the hardcore honesty. This is exactly what I like to see. I originally thought I couldn’t watch a video so long about this product but you kept me engaged the WHOLE time.
Thank you, very impressed with your review and comparison. This video confirmed my hunch after watching one of those over hyped shady reviews. What a rip off especially the for the UK retail price. If the effort and funding spent on marketing this product went to its development, I guarantee this would have been a far better product.
Great review, I am considering this projector purely on the basis of current pricing (£400-500 new), the Halo+ does appear better in many, many ways, but now it is about double the price and the Freestyle is cheaper than the Mogo, it does change the equation somewhat. It also helps that the projector would be used for gaming, where that latency win will be helpful, and also will be used in a loft space, so with the lights off, total blackout, and thus the ~250 lumens should be enough. The loft hatch is unfortunately not large enough to fit a decent sized TV through, and 32" sets are garbage tier these days! As this review was 9 months ago, do you know if any of the issues or flaws were addressed in firmware updates? It feels like a lot of the issues with this device could be corrected with some slight firmware changes (and maybe a faster processor and brighter output in gen 2). I am hoping to get around the general lag by just using a firestick and an xbox series s connected to via a HDMI splitter, so I will spend as little time in the actual Tizen OS as possible!
The key factor you’re missing completely is the Samsung Freestyle can be projected on a horizontal angle. Not everyone has the capability in their spaces to project in a straight line. The USP of the Freestyle is that it can project a 1080p flat image from any angle in the room. Worth the extra money in my opinion
@@TheHookUp this is the wrong video I commented on. In another video you comment “the BenQ gv30 does all the same tricks as the Samsung…” but correct me if I’m wrong, that doesn’t keystone horizontally?
I appreciate your video, but I still think the freestyle is the most promising portable projector out there, which is why I will wait for the second version that will fix all of the issues you have mentionned, that is if it's ever realised. I like all the unique feature it offers, and I truly want this projector to get a version 2 where it truly shines, but at least, you showed us why it's not that great of a projector, but more of a complex gadget
I really like this honest review but I think it's lacking some core features comparison the freestyle came with. Freestyle is definitely lacking as a projector but it's added features like 180 rotation built in stand, lamp adapter for table projection, future accessories make it a trendy projector device for the younger generation rather than just a projector. Personally I won't even be considering a portable projector if my purpose is to replace a TV.

I’ve had mine for 3 weeks and is the best purchase I’ve made all year, it actually does have amazing picture quality even during the day and it’s morning rn with the sun coming through the window on just the wall I’m watching it on and it still looks better than a tv if anything looks high def to me personally, and they fixed the auto adjust so it works now no problem, they literally send updates, and it’s a smart tv… has a Netflix Disney plus and prime video button on the controller…
Personally see it as beyond worth the money, unless it’s built in like this personally I worry about audio to video lag that I’ve had with other projectors trying to do Bluetooth or plug in on a few I’ve tried but haven’t experienced that even once since I’ve had the freestyle
As an owner of one and regular user personally see this as the most nit picking review that is really just a comparison between a smart tv projector and a projector that not a smart tv

Ok I'm in target now nevermind
GROAN. It’s such a win for the Halo+, but no Airplay, no Netflix!?!?! It’s like they’ve built a Ferrari and removed the seats. Great review.
No Airplay? -> ok bye.
This review is jawdroppingly good! I can't believe its free for us to watch on TH-cam. Thank you!

Thanks Brett, it's definitely been a marathon testing session since I got this thing last week.
I can agree. I have a XGimi MoGo Pro that I use pretty often, and the experience is great.

I generally agree with this comment, but “unbiased” is a very strong word which should be reserved and is different from simply being “not biased”.
oh is this why its getting sold for $50 now?
One funny addition that I posted on twitter but didn't include in the video: For some of the b-roll that I shot I needed to use a tripod with the freestyle (to get to the correct height without keystoning), but because it doesn't have a tripod mount I ended up putting the halo+ on the tripod and then setting the freestyle on top of it. lol.

That was smart but now it's half the price and really worth it . Especially if you are in the Samsung ecosystem.
I agree with you.
A very good reason to subscribe to this channel is the honesty and clarity.

Never seen such a detailed review.. awesome
But even if that is the case. Even the 3rd iteration of the phone isn’t worth their asking price compared to what other phones offer
Why charge the general public $900 to test run your product? They are using you, your time, and your money to collect data only to make more money for their shareholders, it's shameful, not justified. They should pay everyone $900 to test them and report the results

MERCI. The amount of tech and spec details and comparative analysis is very useful. I wish you could be involved in QA testing all the major brands before they release products to keep them honest. ;-)
Thanks for biting the bullet on this one and buying a unit to *properly* review for the world. Your honesty and transparency are a breath of fresh air in this hyper-competitive world 👍
Lol don't worry he will make it up with views probably enough to buy two more units 😂
This is how all comparisons should be, fair and instructive. I subscribe to your channel.
Thank you very much and greetings from Spain.
I think it depends on each user and what things they are focused on
Hey, how did this work out for you?

I'm happy. Thanks @The Hook Up
I'm not mad at you for being happy with your purchase. That's a good thing.
Good honest review! The only thing you didn't think about is even though you can use all the projectors to watch it on the ceiling the big limitation with both the xgimi projectors is you would not be able to plug anything into the back of the projector while using it on the ceiling.
True, but most of the time you won't need to plug anything into them, and it's easy enough to prop them up a little bit if you do.
Thank you for keeping it real and giving objective compassion data to state your point, very well done.

Appreciate the detailed and honest review, keeping my pre-order as of now. Getting it for 450 €, think that's a fair price(?)
I expected a bit more for that MSRP though. 🥴
That’s a great price that’s below msrp - where are you buying it from?
more youtubers like this would be needed. Thanks for the review.
Glad to see this video I'm cancelling in the morning if I can 👀
Rob, in your earlier video you mentioned the BenQ that has the cool rotation. Compared to these three, how does the BenQ slot in?

Thank for your extensive testing and for bringing objectivity to the review to deliver an unbiased outcome 😉
$99 is a completely fair price for a Gen1 Freestyle, actually a pretty good deal at that price.

Xgimi needs a 360 stand to play on ceiling, else you block air vent.
I have to agree with most of the comments made, this saved me from making a bad purchase. I was so close to buying the freestyle and think I got caught up in all the hype! After watching this and seeing a non-biased review I’ve purchased the Halo+
You've certainly earnt my trust, and saved me a wasted purchase. Thank you!

Great review. Hopefully more people will see this. I got a small cheap projector for Christmas a few years ago and I would say it beats that projector, but it still uses a traditional monitor 120v plug.
Man your reviews are incredible. You must be working 24/7. Thanks
Thanks! That means a lot, really.
Thank you, very impressed with your review and comparison. This video confirmed my hunch after watching one of those over hyped shady reviews. What a rip off especially the for the UK retail price. If the effort and funding spent on marketing this product went to its development, I guarantee this would have been a far better product.
thank you for this video, definitely saved me from making an expensive mistake and i learnt so much !
Also looking at the freestyle, but the 2023 refresh has no improvement in brightness. Such a letdown really.
Best channel for genuine review of projectors of any kind that I found on YT.
This was an incredible review. Thank you. You are a hero.
I'm in the samsung ecosystems, but this really is a glorified portable speaker/projector.
I just bought the freestyle, it was on sale. Is so fun and it works. The feature I more like is the smart tv
The key factor you’re missing completely is the Samsung Freestyle can be projected on a horizontal angle. Not everyone has the capability in their spaces to project in a straight line. The USP of the Freestyle is that it can project a 1080p flat image from any angle in the room. Worth the extra money in my opinion
watch the whole video pls..
So can both of the other projectors in the video.
@@TheHookUp this is the wrong video I commented on. In another video you comment “the BenQ gv30 does all the same tricks as the Samsung…” but correct me if I’m wrong, that doesn’t keystone horizontally?
@@TheHookUp no they can't
That's the reviews youtube lacks nowadays , well done !
Thanks for making this video, I’ve been thinking of getting a projector to free up space in my home. This has been a really helpful study.
I'm definitely going to withhold judgement on the other accessories until they are actually released. As of now I think they are mostly prototypes.
I like you….you seem like a friendly, honest man with firm reviews! Keep on!
HORRIBLE REVIEW NO TRUE
NO U NO TRUE!
@@TheHookUp do you the current price of this ? I got it for 400 with battery ,skin and case . It's great and almost half of the projectors you are promoting . Don't be so hard if Samsung didn't send you one lol
I am your big fan and love the way you present an unbiased opinion based on facts and facts alone which helps everyone of us to make an well informed, wise and correct decision
You've got my sub from this video alone, only just discovered your channel but love the honesty, stay pure brother ❤️
One of the cleanest tech comparison I saw until now! Great! New sub
Best projector channel by far. The testing is so thorough.
