35 years of my life spent there from The training centre as a technician trainee, Newport Training Centre, SBCO and byproducts plant, Cleveland Works ( Clay Lane and Bessemer), Oil installation on the Tees, Lackenby Mills, BOS Plant and All Redcar Works, even seconded for a year or so to Hartlepool South Works. All gone now but for the memories and my pension !
Thanks for sharing your memories of this industrial railway and the traction that worked upon it, from someone who is a Shunter/Driver at one of the MoD Railway depots
Nice video, mate. Love the GEC shunters. We have two of them in Port Talbot Steelworks in South Wales. Along with a few Bagnall shunters from 1954 and 55 respectively (one 0-4-0 and two that are bo-bo), plus a Hunslet Barclay shunter from 1993 and 4 trojan shunters. As well as a mix of Class 60 and 66 diesels, plus a tamper machine.
These class of loco are also used at Llanwern steel works in south walesThey are numbered DE1 - DE5 They are stephenson diesel electric, made at the vulcan works, Newton le willows in 1972. I know this because i drive them :-)
Such a crime to let it close! Worked there as a contractor on projects etc. Many times. You don't grasp the scale of the place until you have to drive from one end to the other on the site roads. Or how big the rail infrastructure was, for both site locomotives and mainline freight.
@tpvalley SSI Lackenby steel works has bought 10 locos class Di8 from Norwegian CargoNet.I've seen pictures from the steel mill and locomotives already in service. Take a look at two of my videos, that show transit through Norway.

Marvellous. Truly Marvellous. What an industry we have lost. I always live in hope for a reprive.

I bet, driving these little shunters was a real good earner when moving the torpedoes about.
Something I've always wanted to do, capture the rail network on Redcar works. Nice One!
Miss working down there :) shame someone won't come in and buy it up.
Nice video. Hope to see video of Norwegian locomotives as well, when in operation.
Possibly with new colors too.
great video well worth watching
Amazing!

@tpvalley May have seen ...? Well ... it is not very important.
