New school techniques vs old school techniques doesn’t matter, both produce results. What matters is what’s passed on. The passion, desire, and most of all, the respect for the sport is what’s going to save it. Great example guys, #keep the passion alive.
Are you kidding me? I just got teaching from these three pros--including JIM TEENY--for nothing but the time spent watching? Blessed am I. Please do this again. Have Jim on all the time. I love to hear him talk because he's got about 100 years of experience behind him. (Or, maybe only 70, but hey.)
This is one of the most inspiring fishing youtube channels out there. Your approach to these videos and to the channel in general is inspiring. Thank you for sharing this with us, guys.
It's great that the Teeny sink tips incorporated that thicker portion of floating line behind the sinking portion. In other brands it's called "handling line"', and it makes casting these sink tips so much easier. Many brands have their own version of integrated shooting tapers, but it was the Teeny lines that started it all. Glad to see that Jim Teeny is still enjoying this sport to which he has contributed so much.
So that is why I got the Jim Teeny book with my HWC donation. Cool to see him supporting the effort. I started out fishing spinners and moved to fly fishing after a few years. Swinging spinners is a lot like swinging flies. Just different methods of getting the lure down to the fish.
For as old as he is and all his knowledge, it's pretty apparent that the Addicted guys just play along. Amazing to see the knowledge grasp from the younger generations from just online sources.
Ever since I started watching the addicted life got me into fly fishing and I must say I think I like fly-fishing more haha thanks for doing what you guys do keep up the great work
Caught many, MANY steelhead on bait and corkies in my younger years before I learned that it really wasn’t challenging at all-way too easy. Been swinging flies for steelies with a fly rod for the last 30 years-most of that with a Spey rod-and I’ve never looked back. Sure, I catch 1 to every 10 gear caught fish, but every single one is memorable because it was earned.
That looks like the Cadillac of fishing boats. I'm not even a boat guy, and I still had to mop the drool off my chin when I saw the deck on that thing. Those seats look more comfortable than my dad's recliner.
Great "crossover info" and "new school" anglers with one of the "Godfathers"! Super cool, I love how ya'll mix it up and bring ALL fishing to your channel! Of course focusing on PNW Salmon and Steelhead will always be my #1, its fun to explore other fish and methods. Love it when u bring out legends like KVD and Teeney- theres always more to learn IF fishing is your passion. Keep on killin it! Much appreciation!
I got into fly fishing by learning how to tie first..(1982/83). Started out with an Eagle Claw combo with a Pflueger reel. No wading gear...but I learned how to fish in the Yakima River (down River of Ellensburg). Unfortunately I have been able to get on the water for the last 5+ years. Hoping to change that soon.
Very informative thank you. I’m new to steelhead fly fishing. Curious as to the green gloves you’re wearing? I’m always looking for ways to keep my hands “warm.” Where can I find those? Thanks!
I still make my own stepped leaders. I used Teeny lines, and Scientific Angler lines when I started. Cortland became my go to line..soon after. But, I think with today's tech...I'm going to need to do some more research
Great information. I personally don't want an integrated tip in my lines, but can appreciate that style. The hatchery information though was downright false. So much data out there that hatcheries are really not as good as they appear unfortunately. They aren't the end-all be-all of management decisions and really need some serious thought. I get it that you want to advocate for them because they are supporting your business, but that's not necessarily a good line to take if you want long term sustainability in our hatcheries.
Yes!(¡ Mr. Teeny the Originator of "Persuasive" Fly Fishing with his Teeny nymph (looks very similar to Carey Special) for Steelhead and Salmon. And guys don't believe the all the Negative Rumors about Jim. Once on Eagle Creek (the Clackamas System), I Watched him from up-above a "Cliff" for 45 minutes, to See if there was any Truth to those Negative Rumors, Regarding his Alleged "force feeding" method!! Having had a father who was once, Chief Justice, I had to See myself!! And so I did, when Mr. Teeny was done, he came up, and I greeted him, and he left 😃Peace to all true Outdoor Sportsmen, who practice Fair Chase in Fishing and Hunting 😍
Always Disregard "Discouraging Statements". It really isn't anything mysterious, despite the exaggerated Statements, such "Fish of thousand Casts", I would quit Steelheading (Fly Fishing or Conventional), it that was really True 😃🥺 I Never forget, a Comment from the most Senior employee of, Once largest Fly Shop of Oregon (Streamborn Fly Shop of Tigard, Oregon), when he said "I Couldn't Catch a Steelhead, (Winter or Summer) drift-fishing and Not with a Float/Bobber!! But when he finally tried Fly Fishing for Summer Steelhead, the Very First time, he hooked and landed 2 S. Steelhead on the Deschutes river!!
I remember how many accused J. Teeny of being a "Snagger"!! But my father was an honest Judge, and for years, "The head of the Supreme Court of a Nation" (the post, here in the U.S. call Chief Justice), so I wouldn't believe anyone, without Solid Proof!! Once, while fishing Eagle Creek of the Clackamas System, I got to watch Mr. Teeny and his friends "Fly Fishing" from above the hole that Mr. Teeny was supposed to be fishing!!! And what I saw was very disappointing!! The whole time, he tried to do what my friend had described. My friend was the Tackle buyer at Larry's Sport Center, that later became Fisherman's Marine. Without Sarcasm, he said Jim Teeny did "Force Feeding". What I observed for about 45 minutes, was basically, him placing the fly really close to the target Steelhead, then trying to "run it" into the Open mouths of the Steelhead while breathing in the water. And then quickly setting the hook😮💨!! Of course, he had no idea that I was standing up above the hole, and Very carefully observing the whole thing!! Jim was using his famous Polarized Sunglasses in order to be able to place the Pheasant-tail fly (a variant of Cary Special), inside the fish's mouth. Then trying to "Set the hook"!! All of my game warden friends at OSP (Oregon State Police) and even the Game Wardens of Washington State, considered what Jim did as "Foul-hooking or attempting to foul hook" fish. Which of course, would be quite Unlawful!! They shared this with me during the time I was being recruited for the "Game Division" of the Oregon State Police. I must admit that, the aforementioned incident severely disappointed me!! They told me that, if they had been there, Mr. Teeny would've been arrested for "attempting to foul-hook/Snag" Steelhead!! My friend's accusation of him being "a Snagger" was finally proven to me!! So much for a "Legend"! 😒
Jim teeny and big Dave? You dudes are just out here rockin
I really enjoyed how much Big Dave and Popav really listened and absorbed what he was saying. Great video!

Jim teeny is a classy example for all of us. I appreciate him very much
The more fly fishing I see the more I’m interested in it. Hope to see more!
Popov hosted that interview very well. Great vibes from all three of them.

How did you watch the video that quick if you posted your comment with now way you could have watched all 😬
@@lanehelvey4528 she never claimed or implied she watched it. She just said she was learning and that this could have not come at a better time.

Beers open and dinners done. Good fuckin timing boys
Are Popovs gloves on the website? Where can I get those?
As soon as I saw the words Fly Fishing Legend I knew it had to be Mr. Teeney.

Teeny is a legend. First steelhead fly was a teeny nymph in hot pink 🤷♂️.
I have never caught a steelhead or fly fished. I want to do both, I would like to learn the way of the fly.
prepare to spend 10,000 hours trying

Can I use a 9foot 6 weight
Anyone got love for Spey swingers?! One of the best ways to fish for steelhead and salmon!
That’s got to be so satisfying when you hook a fish that way, especially out west.
Marlin always looks like he's freezing...
That dude is awesome. He's the reason I can't get behind buying Scientific Angler shit.. I feel like they screwed him on the lines..
Jim who?
more kokonee videos
so marlin is gonna jump in showing off his 80k plus boat in a fly fishing video?
