@@jaykay1053 Hey mate, not a whole lot unfortunately as I've been on a big Miles Davis trip, then got into his guitarist Robben Ford quite a bit, but I certainly have it on my agenda to delve deeper into Dave at some stage.
“Take Five,” a 1959 track by the Dave Brubeck Quartet, was always a musical oddity: a swinging, instantly catchy jazz piece written in the uncommon time signature of 5/4. It was written by his legendary saxophonist, Paul Desmond. It was one of the first Jazz songs with a time signature other than the standard 4/4 beat or 3/4 waltz time. 2:43 [NPR; Rolling Stone; Songfacts]
Time after time I get back to this masterpiece. I love every single sound of it, every part. The theme, the solos, the piano/bass ostinato.... everything. Not to mention my favourite saxophone sound. The nice 5/4. And the extremely simple and quiet ending. Just perfect.
Been listening to this all my life and only just noticed Desmond’s little afterthought of a solo tag at the very end. He pulses his vibrato in 🎶🎵 Genius!

It's not called 5 time... it's called take five. Which is a common phrase for taking a break, which is exactly what the song feels like. Now there may be an intentional link between the rhythm and the term, or it might just be coincidence. Either way it doesn't change the name of the song, nor can you deduce that from just the name.

Won't you stop and take
A little time out with me
Just take five
Stop your busy day
And take the time out
To see if I'm alive
Though I'm going out of my way
Just so I can pass by each day
Not a single word do we say
It's a pantomime and not a play
Still, I know our eyes often meet
I feel tingles down to my feet
When you smile, that's much too discreet
Sends me on my way
Wouldn't it be better
Not to be so polite
You could offer a light
Start a little conversation now
It's alright, just take five
Just take five
Though I'm going out of my way
Just so I can pass by each day
Not a single word do we say
It's a pantomime and not a play
