I was introduced to Dave Brubeck and Paul Desmond some 60 years ago. That was at the 'Ambacht School in Hoorn in the Netherlands. Al my old friends where there like, Karel Schneider, Renee Bras, Dolf Boekel and so on, I still like to thank the teacher for playing this music to us. This music shaped my understanding of music and it's associating differences in approach and styles. I spend time listening to the defining songs and albums of that era and genre, read the comments and feel, quite sure, that yes, 'this is the greatest rock and stands the test of time'. Then I come and listen to this. And know that nothing ever recorded in the last century can compare. I started shifting to jazz in my late 20's when began feeling a need for more sophisticated mature music that wasn't shouting something at me all the time. Just music. The journey of discovery of great jazz has never ended. And when I need to feel that there is much that was right with humanity and its ultimate achievements, it is this that moves me and keeps me grounded. And I feel that as long as this music is alive, exists, gains new followers and those that can put in the work to come to truly deeply appreciate it, civilization will will be okay, it will survive.
Well, it appears that it took a Pandemic for the world to find , appreciate , creative phenomenal talent again. I noticed that the view skyrocketed in the past year !! I personally prefer this version as it gives each person their own time to shine ! That's respect ! The other versions did NOT have not even a million views. I noticed !! Now, they certainly do. This should have multi million views in my honest opinion, that is sadly their loss.
This version of Take Five is the perfect background music for taking time to polish shoes and boots. Best prescription for attaining peace and order! Life now shines as do footwear! Tempo matches brush strokes to the beat!
This guy is insane ! (also the Quartet, of course ;) ) Me and my friend were playing chess, while we were listening to this track and we didn't even notice the fact that they're playing live (well, I think it's also because of the good quality), and the crossovers from the improvisation back to the original notes are genius!! I take my hat off to those guys!

We've listened to this in music lesson and since then it doesn't get out of my head anymore, the smooth relaxing and calm melody and extraordinary beat is absolutely stunning.
from my undestanding brubeck was inspired by the asian rhythmic use in their music, so he applied it to the album "time out". desmond thought of the main line but couldnt form a proper song out of it, until brubeck suggested the aaba form would work. morello played a huge role in the 5/4 swing and his signature take five drum solo. correct me if im wrong im curious.
I love the "twos" Dave trades off with Alan, and at the beginning of Alan's solo, he references (if not "quotes") a small portion of Joe Morello's famous original solo.

This is one of the most complete, soulful, rhythmic jazz pieces ever conceived. Can't stop listening to it. The Brubeck band really went Beast Mode!
