I love how this one tries so hard to mimic a deeper male voice. Many others I've seen have an easier time bc ppl teach them In high pitch baby voice which naturally gets easier for them to mimic

My Starling passed away a month short of 3 yrs old.
He was the apple of my eye.The pain of this loss is huge,..
I'm hopeful that I may be so blessed as to find another newly hatched European Starling one day.
So brilliant they are,..A companion better than can be expressed with words.

Oh, I know how you feel! I've had five starlings over the years and they are the BEST. I was devastated when each of them passed away. Fortunately, a couple of them lived long lives, but I still grieved terribly. Try some bird rescue places in the spring when people bring in abandoned babies.

What a wonderful starling you have!! I've raised five in my adulthood and they all sounded like me. It's so funny to hear one talking in a man's voice! I adore starlings and can't imagine life without one. They're the best! Li'l Sub, my fourth starling, said, "I love you so much." We were very closely bonded. I could barely function when he died suddenly. I have Dart now. He's almost 10.

birds mimic exactly what they hear. they don't have the ability to conceive human speech structures so I don't understand why you would be expecting them to try to mimic a person's speech in a high pitched voice. they hear a low pitched sound and they mimic exactly that sound if they have the physical means.

I would think this also would be the case for species known for their mimicry of other species - orioles, catbirds, mockingbirds, etc., but how good they would be at human words may vary (if they could do it at all) and I haven’t seen examples of these species doing such personally. It also depends upon their bond with the human as their flock member as to whether they would even be inclined to try it, if able.

We have a house sparrow who doesn't want to get out into the free world ever again since she had a lot of panic moments when she got out of the house. Now she hates everyone of her own kind and sings a lot for us, what we neuer expected from a house sparrow at all. She can hit tons of notes and one can tell every time what words and phrases she repeats. 😂❤

Mozart had a pet starling which he taught to sing. In the US they are an invasive species thanks to some Shakespeare admirers. This is quiet a quandary over being charmed or wanting to get a net out. It's illegal to have pet robins or other native birds but starlings are exempt. I am waiting for good AI vision for bird feeders that will discriminate against starlings. Exotic birds are OK if strictly contained.
