We have loved Chimney Rock for 30 years, don't think the fee is too much...if you visit a lot, just get a year pass & it will way more than pay for itself.
Amazingly, she is 82! Some of the trails, especially the ones with uneven footing is a bit tough as you would expect, and we keep the hike to less than 3 miles when she comes with us but still amazing at 82!
Chimney Rock area has an extreme calming effect.Everyone should go there and spend some time

Yes!! and we didn't know if it was open (pandemic) until AFTER we hiked from the bottom to the top.
