We saw the news tonight and it is absolutely heartbreaking. My heart goes out to all of the residents and businesses that are in the area. I never would have expected that kind of storm damage in that area.
Boy the timing of this video, I gotta say I got emotional watching this. We just visited in June first time and loved this cute town and the beautiful nature of chimney rock. Now my heart breaks for the people who are suffering there. We were glad we got to see this wonderful place including lake Lure and the flowering bridge (now sadly destroyed, it’s so devastating) We ate at the smokehouse there in the village and glad to see they survived this disaster. 🙏
It is surreal that we filmed this a week prior to the storm. We ran out of time before being able to eat and drink in town, but found the area to be beautiful. It is heartbreaking to see all of the damage from the storm.
Thank you for sharing your video! We have been visiting Chimney Rock State Park for 30 years now & love it every single time, our last visit was Easter weekend this year because the Park has a sunrise service. Treasure this video because Helene hit a few days later & the town was severely damaged so we didn't get to make our planned annual early November visit. There is no place like it, the Autumn colors are stunning, it is our happy place. You will probably find yourself wanting to go back, it does that to a lot of people 🙂
I saw a cigarette type boat with tampa bay buccaneers paintwork on I75 in Ga on my way back from HHN. I thought "Cool, wonder what Kyle and Mary are doing today?", looks like climbing rocks. :)
...ironically, We evacuated Hurricane Francis in 2004 from West Palm Beach, Florida to Lake Lure, North Carolina (my friend had a log cabin up around there). We visited Chimney Rock along along with where Dirty Dancing was filmed in Lake Lure. On the day Francis hit FL we were riding rollercoasters at Carowinds. On return Hurricane Jeanne hit a few days later and we rode that one out even after seeing the destruction caused from Francis. 20 years on it now feels surreal that this awe-inspiring 'Area of Natural Beauty' has been brought back to mind due to Hurricane HelenE 😵💫 Thank you for making this video which made me reminisce! God bless the people affected by the storm, may they recover 🙏
Pretty tough to watch now. At least you got to experience it before the flooding wiped the place away.

Yeah not only that but the lithium mines going to destroy it further.

Very cool. Like Rock City but not quite as grand. Will keep it in mind next time we visit NC.
It was a fun side quest.

You ever been to Brasstown Bald in north GA?
We have not done the mountains in GA yet. Looks like Brasstown Bald is 4784'. We'll have to check it out someday.
My God, everything is completely gone.
You should go to Tallulah falls gorge in north GA

Is this a sundown town?
Not according to this list: justice.tougaloo.edu/location/north-carolina/
so sad the whole town is gone :(
It’s hard to imagine that we shot this video just one week ago. My heart is with the people of NC.
While you are up there I saw they had an adult only haunted farm
