It's beyond sad what has happened to my beloved Chimney Rock Village and surrounding WNC areas. I know they are mountain strong and will rebuild. If you'd like to see some video of the road leading up to Chimney Rock Village prior to Helene, check out this other video: th-cam.com/video/QWAla0uMhhk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=EQ6CLylwDsYLcfXb
I watched a recent Aerial Drone video, that was taken following Helene. Devastation abounds, and I was able to recall a few locations that are now non existent from the content in this video. I will sub and view more of your travels. Thank You and your sister as well. God Bless all.
Thank you for the video showing how it was before Hurricane Helene. It’s hard to imagine how much water came down that river to essentially destroy the entire village. I’m happy we were able to visit before but feel so bad for all the shop owners and people who lived there.
Yeah I can't believe the destruction and loss it will never be the same. This was one of my favorite places here in WNC. They will rebuild but it just won't be the same. ♥️
Oh I know. I'm just 2 hrs away from there. I have family in Hendersonville, Carter County Tennessee, Green County Tennessee. The mountains are a part of me. This hurts me to my soul. My heart breaks for the people up there. 🙏
It's incredibly heartbreaking to see the devastation brought to Western North Carolina. What a beautiful little village, that sadly I'll never be able to see it the way it was before this historic flood.... It's comforting to know that humans are amazing creatures and have the means to rebuild all of this and make it better than ever. I hope someday I can visit here when that time comes. God bless all of you in Chimney Rock and Western North Carolina.
Prayers for everyone from Chimney Rock and all areas affected by the devil hurricane Helene. It was such a beautiful place and so heartbreaking it's gone. Thank you for making this video. Although, you had no idea of the devastation that would destroy this and so many other places, you preserved history. I'm glad you made this video. Have a beautiful, blessed night. 🙏
@@melissaciswhoibe9183 It was an amazing area and although it will take time I know Chimney Rock Village will come back strong. Unbelievably sad what happened there.
Thank you for doing a nice video of Chimney Rock village. Watching this video takes me back to the days as a child that my family took me up to the little shops and I got to spend my allowance in the shops. Every year we went once in the spring and then in fall. We always stopped at Chimney Rock then onto Maggie Valley further west. I always bought a rabbit pelt, a tin toy friction car, and those neat little rock collections of NC rocks glued to a 6x8 piece of cardboard. That eventually lead me on the path to become an avid rockhound. Grandma always stopped by the numerous little roadside apple stands and we got apples and apple cider to take home. We always stayed at Heart of the Valley motel in Maggie Valley and went clogging and played putt-putt golf, visited the shops and had a had a picnic on the parkway which we would ride up to Blowing rock and back down the foothills. I break out the old family photo albums now and then and relieve those wonderful days. A time that now seems so far away and certainly gone forever. A better time. That was many years ago. Grandmother and grandfather have passed and dad near 80 years old and myself pushing 60. That's one thing that I like about Chimney Rock is that it hasn't changed much in all those years. I thank God for the memories and the love of my folks for making it possible. Thank you for this video, it was very nice.
It's so nice to hear your recap of your visits over the years to here in Western North Carolina! There are so many beautiful spots, and it sounds like you made it to a lot of the best including Chimney Rock and the village. I'm glad this video could help remind you of those memories. Great job filming! Very informative video. We were there recently and plan on going back to see some of the shops we had missed that we learned of on your video.
@@MrMountainMan I have never been there but a close friend was telling me she had been there many times and how wonderful it was. I admit I would never have walked out onto it or under the ledge people were walking under... because when I was in high school, friends and I used to camp out on a cliff ledge and would laugh about what if it fell in. The last time we went down there it had indeed done so. But Chimney Rock does look like it was a beautiful area. Such a heartbreaking tragedy. Sorry for your loss

Pretty neat little village there at Chimney Rock. Pretty good choice of places to eat. Public restrooms are always a plus. Looks like a little something for everyone. The gem mines are a lot of fun, you never know what you might find. This would be a pretty cool place to stay. I would probably have to get one of those cute little flower pots from the first store. You should get an iron skillet they cook up wonderful once it is seasoned .Super nice video.

This is so narrow they are going to have to re-build pretty high to avoid another complete washout. Seing this tour of so many lovely businesses I have enjoyed is wonderful for rekindling memories of happy days there with family for a reunion. Mother nature created great beauty and great risk together. When I watch the geologist videos explaining how huge the watershed is that funnels.through here, it seems best to leave the whole stretch from Bat Cave to Lake Lure as a park and put all the tourist attractions and lodging well above the Helene high water line. Putting a structure on stilts like they do along the oceanfronts would not help avoid damage due to the heavy debris load in any bad flood.

You missed my favorite barbeque. It's the first building on the riverside when coming into town. They have picnic tables on the river down some outside steps. Good food. Never miss It.
Love this video, great advertising for the Village, especially for those who haven't previously visited. CRV & CRSP are our favorites for 30 years now, we never get tired of it. Our favorite shops are Mountain Traders, Chimney Sweeps, & Bubba O'Leary's and our two favorite restaurants are Genny's & Riverwatch Grill, the best used to be Duncan's BBQ, where Hickory Nut Gorge Brewery is now. If one plans shopping a while, that paid parking lot is a great deal, just $5 for all day. We always lodge at Chimney Rock Inn, the rooms/cabins are nice & the owners are friendly. Also, after noticing your sister's Benjamin's tshirt, I think I may have actually met you in one of the shops(maybe Coffee On the Rocks)on one of our weekend visits to the Village. I recall speaking to a man wearing a Benjamin's shirt who said his grandfather used to live above Benjamin's at Myrtle Beach & learned he was ill & was advised by his doctor to move to the mountains because the air was better there. Thanks again for your excellent video 🙂
Excellent suggestions over there in Chimney Rock Village! Especially about the parking which depending on the season and time of day can be a bit of a chore. I'd like to get back there and try some of the other restaurants. We love The Original Benjamin's in Myrtle Beach, but I think that may have been someone else as my Grandpa didn't live there.
