    Really lovely sounding piece of kit. The demo here has a Four Tet-esque vibe.

    I can definitely see this being a favorite for some specific IDM producers

    Now this is the groovebox I can get behind, it’s absolutely my style, sleek yet fully accessible. Oh lord, I’m drooling 🤤. The functions are much more thoughtful and organic than a few of the others contenders. And honestly, I looked at this and expected a ridiculous $1200 or something. $630ish for the synth engines and external routing possible, among all the utilities. Very impressive.

    Sounds pretty cool , but I can't be the only one lured in by the idea of a drum machine that specializes in blast beats :P dammit , had me going for a moment there .

    Surely that chip is 16 bit, not 8? Huge difference, but purely academic, of course. Whether you like the sound or not is the only thing that really matters.

    • @twisted-electrons
      @twisted-electrons 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Hakon you're absolutely correct, the sound signal the FM chip produces is 16bit, thanks!

    • @hakonsoreide
      @hakonsoreide 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@twisted-electrons No problem. It's a great synth and an absolutely lovely sounding 16-bit chip, though, with some of the sounds definitely having a bit of that bit-limited noisy edge to them that has such a huge retro appeal. Excellent work.

    Twisted Electrons have on their website a new revision of TherapSID coming soon, so was hoping to hear about that. It was listed as "in April 2022" until recently, but looks like they've changed it to Summer 2022 now

    • @6581punk
      @6581punk 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The new TherapSID just looks like an internal redesign due to the microcontroller not being available? although they might develop it more? I'm happy with he Mk2 though.

    • @Wagoo
      @Wagoo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@6581punk yeah, I think you're right and it's mainly a redesign to work around chip shortages. But still would have been nice to hear something on it

    Why didn't they include the waveforms here seen left of the algorithms on their MegaFM ?

    • @HazeAnderson
      @HazeAnderson 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am probably wrong, but perhaps the YM2612 chip used by the MEGAfm just allows for more control of the operators than the YMF262 chip that the Blast Beats uses. I spent a little time looking at some data sheets but that should get you started if you really want to know.

    • @hermask815
      @hermask815 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HazeAnderson I'm not so familiar with the chips used. i'm coming from the
      ipad software synth FM4 which is a TX81 z emulation www.primal-audio.com/img/img_fm4front_large.jpg. it has "those" waveforms. When i decided to go after a hardware synth i was rather disappointed that most of the attainable devices (reface dx, mefgafm, digitione) didn't have them.
      Well, that's how i ended up with the Opsix.

    • @jackcimino8822
      @jackcimino8822 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hermask815 The TX81Z that FM4 is based on uses the OPZ chip, and the MegaFM uses the OPN chip (same as Sega Genesis), which uses only sine waves

    I really don't get the name... A blast beat is a really fast drumbeat, used in extreme forms of metal. Kind of strange to name a device like this after such a thing.

    • @jeffkent6886
      @jeffkent6886 2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      They used SoundBlaster chips in it, hence the blast name.

    • @VJFranzK
      @VJFranzK 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      True. Maybe it is a reference to Sega "blast processing", just thought of that! Or because it can do "snare rushes" and such
