  • Conrail on the roller coaster Pittsburgh Mainline. Nothing but up and down, which reguires helpers in both directions between Pittsburgh and Altoona PA.
This was filmed with my first VHS camera, so the will be a little shakey at times, since I didn't have a tripod yet.
Hope you enjoyed these clips of a few locations on the
Pittsburgh mainline. Sorry for the shakes. This was my
first VHS camera, and before I had a tripod.
Thanks for watching. Please be sure to check out my
many other video clips from the 1970's up to today.
    God Bless

Back when 89' Flat Cars were used for Intermodal Trains. Now it's all mostly double stacks. I'm pretty sure the overhead bridge at 15:55 had to get replaced for the double stacks to clear. All in all, great stuff there kind sir. Thank you.

Yes it did get replaced. They raised the abutment about a foot, for the doubles on this one. They also raised the Buffinmeyer bridge just off Donohoe Road as well, only they still left the bridge, just raised it about 18"s.

I'm just old enough to remember the last of the Conrail B36-7s running on CSX in the early 2000s. I was born into the wrong era of railfanning...

That's a classic, atmospheric railroad video. Great time of year to have shot this. Very lush scenery.
Hood units ruled the mainlines: General Electric B30-7s, C30-7s, and what looked like an 8-40'C.
Also looked like lots of older SD40s used as pushers and at the head end with the newer SD40-2s.
    And, GP40-2s.
Beautiful, classy paint scheme the railroad had - up there with Chessie System. They chose a striking color.

Not to bad for early VHS. I wish we had todays equipment back then, or even back in the 70's when I was filming. Holy cow!!!
