We had a tower garden assembly given to us a few years ago. We had no idea what to do with it. A month ago, we decided to give it a try, so my husband cleaned out the leftover roots that had been in it since we got it. We went to True Garden in Mesa, and learned a few things, and picked up a timer and the nutrients and tother things we had been told we needed. We started the water and nutrients, and set up the timer. After 3 days, we picked up the seedlings. Wow...planting in a tower is so easy! Yesterday afternoon, we went out to harvest a few things, and honestly, some things we weren't sure of...what IS this? So we snipped of some of everything except the obvious tomatoes or cucumbers, and made a huge salad! We'd never had micro greens before...All I can say is that in less than a month, we are having the best salad we've ever had...and didn't even have tomatoes yet! We looked at each other, and said...this tastes...not just good, but full, whole and, well, healthy! We loved every bite! Now we are getting excited! This is so rewarding to actually have edible produce, that is healthy so very fast! I wish I had more tower gardens! Louise, Mesa, AZ

I am interested in knowing how not having the microbiome of the soil affects the nutrition the plant has to offer you? As well as where the minerals you are using to feed the plants come from, and if they are damaging the communities and environment they are getting them from?! I am truly interested in knowing, I support the technology and want to love it but also want to know the true impacts.

Whenever they said "plants don't need soil, they need what is in the soil"; I knew this wasn't anything more than the same incomplete-disney-world idea I had as a kid... SMH... ...if there weren't soil here on the planet plants never would've come along. Plants do need the nutrients found in soil; plants also need the living interaction in their ecosystems. These folks have designed the Matrix for veg 🙄🙄🙄💔
I took home some parsley for my mom to make Tabouleh and honestly it was the most flavorful parsley I’ve ever had. Cant wait for this to be the standard of agriculture.

A disadvantage to bamboo is that it doesn't handle water well. But I too hope that there is a better solution than the white plastic. But maybe we can make them using recycled material?
I learned how to germate seeds in my 5th grade bioligy class and always said using just water and minerals using a method similar to this was the way to grow food or at least foods that just have roots. we used to have a tomato garden when I was young and nothing taste better then fresh pestiside free tomatoes!!if everyone in the county did this we would have MORE THEN ENOUGH to feed our country!!!
The ideas is excellent accept when you consider the biodiversity of the earth 🌏 Which includes the symbiotic relationships of microbiology, carbon sequestration, building habitats for the natural world to flourish. Plus you have to pay for electricity unless solar powered running pumps not to mention the nutrition you need to feed to the plants ! Its amazing because you cannot patent nature 🌈❤️🙏🏼

@@hicksa1 you can actually make some pretty good DIY versions. if you have a 3d printer you can print the tower sections or even go to your local plumbing store, all you need then is a pump and a resiviour. this isnt a new thing, but the guy has made it into a great commercial product, I think their main issue is the size of the thing, I bet most of the cost is in the delivery.
Read up on the use of pvc plastic for this. It is frowned upon highly. I don’t want to talk ugly. Just go on TH-cam and online and look at this. You are supposed to use clay or ceramic type towers. The p v c is not healthy for people at all. The plastic breaks down in the sun and weather and with constant use.
We're not running out of places to grow food. If we stopped growing corn, wheat, and soy as animal feed then that would free up 99% of the land to grow food for ourselves.
You can sell the plants if you want money but you can get very very eco friendly lamps that can be poerred by 1 or 2 solar panels or a car battery for over a week without recharging and all in all its very worth it :)
It’s a very nice idea. I would like to have one in my kitchen/living room and one will fit nicely on my balcony but at 1000$ per unit, it’s over my budget.
Aquaponics is another great method of sustainable growing. Each form of urban farming has a place and environment that works best for it. We found this to be the most practical and sustainable system for our environment. But we have worked with some great people in various forms of modern urban farming and support them all.

If more people use this method, it will use quite a bit less water which is good for humanity as a whole. Another question is what affect will it have on the environment and beneficial ecosystems if more people grow with this method? Hydroponic veggies are devoid of nutrients. Most of the plants derive their nutrition from their root system developing in nutrient dense soil. Today’s problems with growing veggies in soil is the soil layer used for farming is no longer nutrient dense. So, you chew on that broccoli or kale, but it gives you close to no calcium or vitamins. Nice marketing with hydroponics, but ultimately, I want my veggies grown the better way.
If we are all going to live on salad greens and herbs, this is great. But without the ability to grow root vegetables and legumes, we aren't leaving the ground.
Scott, you are absolutely right. This isn't a replacement for all farming, but it is a viable solution for urban areas, deserts, and any place where traditional growing methods aren't realistic. It also reduces the travel of many types of produce over long distances.
Interesting point, but there's always a solution, a community can have a collective that every month people put in their share of the payment. If the claim is true that you can get more food with these towers then I would image it can save money in the long run. Only way to find out is to try it.

You should be able to replicate this yourself. There's nothing ground breaking here. Search for DIY hydroponics or DIY vertical farming perhaps.

Can you plant year round?
Outdoors depending on your temperatures but in a greenhouse, year round growing is possible.

Today’s problems with growing veggies in soil is the soil layer used for farming is no longer nutrient dense. So, you chew on that broccoli or kale, but it gives you close to no calcium or vitamins. Nice marketing with hydroponics, but ultimately, I want my veggies grown the better way.
The only issue left - sun. Give me enough sunlight in northern regions - ill grow you sweetest berry in any can.
If we are all going to live on salad greens and herbs, this is great. But without the ability to grow root vegetables and legumes, we aren't leaving the ground.
Scott, you are absolutely right. This isn't a replacement for all farming, but it is a viable solution for urban areas, deserts, and any place where traditional growing methods aren't realistic. It also reduces the travel of many types of produce over long distances.

You place the water inside and it keeps moving from down to up to down. It's the same water going in circles.

Interesting point, but there's always a solution, a community can have a collective that every month people put in their share of the payment. If the claim is true that you can get more food with these towers then I would image it can save money in the long run. Only way to find out is to try it.

It's for people who like to get ripped off and can't think for themselves to build their own for a minuscule fraction of the cost.
