This was amazing! Thank you for posting this. I learned so much!
That was excellent. You should do a separate set of videos where explore each arrondissement one at a time. You could make a series. One arrondissement a day. That might be too much. Maybe, one a week.
Oh thank you! That's a great idea! I want to explore each arrondissement one by one and show you the vibe of each district!
Yes, a great idea. Allez Théo 😁
Ha I decided to do this, I've done 4 out of the 20 so far. It's good fun! I planned to do 1 a week but it's more like 1 a month.
Thank you for this. We were to Paris a few years ago for the first time and got a bit overwhelmed. I’m saving this video as it really helps non Parisians to know what is what. Love it and Thank You.
I'm just so happy to help you 🙏
Bonjour, THEO~ ! Wonderful - wonderful review of the arrondissements! I AGREE with everything you said! Last month stayed at the Hotel George VII on Avenue de l'Opera and it was exactly as you described it! There is SO MUCH to see in Paris that it requires one to visit many times! This was only my third time! Merci bien! ♥
I'm so glad you loved the video! Merci!
The best breakdown I have seen to date with the blunt, honest guidance I have been looking for. Thank you!!
❤❤❤❤ loved this. Thank u. U explained things that I’ve always wanted to know. Love your humor ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I felt so in sync with where you placed each arrondissement 😂 The 2nd and 9th are my ABSOLUTE FAVOURITES too!! They captured my heart from my first visit, 10 years ago, when my husband and I rented an appartment on rue de Richelieu.
Rue de Richelieu is WONDERFUL!!
I love the way you presented Paris. Having been there many times, I fully agree with your assessment of the various arrondissements. You are doing a great job Theo !
Thank you 🥰
Perfect video and very helpfull!! thank you very much! I also would love separte video’s to explore the arrondissements!
Thank you! Yes I'm thinking about a serie of exploration for each arrondissement !
Really interesting video. I have never seen a video that
explains Paris so well.
Jeff
Thank you so much Jeff!
You’re hilarious, this was excellent 🤣 after living here for over a year already, I feel exactly the same. Thank you for this gem!!
I'm glad you loved it !
your assessment was terrific! greatly appreciated! I like your sense of humor.
Thank you 😊
thank you Theo. Bravo for your video.
another wonderful video theo! very concise and informative. i am particularly attracted to monmartre because i am a singer and i love to do artwork as well. the famous cabaret , the lapin agile is what i want to see when i get to paris. thanks for this video. you are adorable!!
I stayed in the 17th a couple of times when my daughter lived there before the pandemic, and we really enjoyed the rue de Levis and found it easy to get around from there.
It's a beautiful district!
I love rue de Levis too ! Ive heard that there is a street like this in each arrondissement like rue Daguere in the 14th or rue Montorgueil but idk if its true
I was going to comment the same! Absolutely loved rue de Levis when I stayed in the 17th. It’s definitely a quiet area all up, but that works for me.
This was fantastic. Really really good
I'm so glad you loved it!
My brother in Christ.
I grew up in the 19th, it used to be unsafe but I find it much better now. And there’s SO MUCH to discover in this arrondissement, I’d say it’s definitely in the top 5.
Oh thank you for sharing it ! I also think it's getting better than before
I agree! The 19th and 20th are my favorites!
Loved this so much!
Very good video and very funny. I just subscribed to your channel.
Welcome to the channel ! I'm sure you will love the next videos !
Great video. My husband is Parisian, but we live in the US. We recently rented an AirBnb in the 10th & were unsure if that was a good idea, but it was fine. We found some good restaurants, but weren’t close enough to the Metro.
His family lived in the 12th until a few years ago. I quite liked it because it was a short Metro ride to many interesting places. It was very safe & pretty.
I have to watch this again to take notes on each arrondisement. Very helpful. I agree you should do videos on each one separately.
I'm glad you loved the video!
I'm going to Paris tomorrow and I'll be staying in the 9th! I wasn't sure about it at first, but I've found a lot of great looking places I want to check out when I'm there and your ranking of it made me even more excited for my stay!
That's a great district ! You will love it!
"when your district's monument is a graveyard it means it's not so interesting" haha, killed me ( I like the 20th though)
GREAT info. Thx!❤
I'm glad you loved it!
This places is so cultured , thanks for the review !
I'm happy you loved it!
Excellent video. Thank you!
Thank you 😊
I love the hectic vibe around the Opera, and the building is astonishing. I want to spend more time here next visit. Also arr 9 is lively and a great shopping space. Any specific restaurants you could recommend?
The 20th is definitely my favorite. It doesn’t have many tourist attractions (which I consider a plus), but it is beautiful, laid back, and just feels unpretentious and authentic. It's the arrondissment I would most want to live. I loved Belleville because it reminded me of Harlem, NYC in certain ways. Just ordinary people of all kinds. Great energy. Parc de Belleville is also a hidden gem in the city, and has incredible street art. Nobody is giving credit to the 19th but in addition to Buttes Chaumont, they also have Cent Quatre cultural center and Parc de la Villette which is an awesome place with a lot of arts institutions and other activities. Paris j'taime trop. ❤
This! The 20e is great
Oh yes I forgot about Parc de la Villette but it's great!
That's good to know. I'm looking for a neighborhood with lots of greenery.
@@frenchguytheo mdr parisien en carton
Agreed! Belleville is definitely a hidden gem!
I loved this! Maybe you could rank French cities next?
Oh that's a great idea ! I need to explore some big ones I don't know enough, like Marseille or Lyon!
I think the 13 Arrondisement Vibe is quite like Dusseldorf in Germany , As Dusseldorf is a city that boasted so many Asian restaurant the most , not surprising Dusseldorf is also a largest Japanese community in Europe
Oh I didn't know ! Thanks for sharing
Thanks for this gem
I love the 5th arrondissement so much! I remember we stayed in a hotel just down the road from the Cluny Museum, so I popped in to visit the Lady and the Unicorn tapestries. I was so enchanted! The museum felt so intimate, like a corner of Paris meant just for me. It is still one of my most favorite museums that I've ever visited. Plus of course all the restaurants!
It's such a great district !
I like the 19th and 20th the best. Much less tourism and much more actual soul of Paris. The 19th has Le Zénith concert hall, the music museum, la Villette and le Butte Chamont parks, and tons of great street art.
The 20th has the Belleville neighborhood which is very beautiful and charming but quietly so, and of course Père Lachaise cemetery which I also found to be beautiful and serene. Lots of cool restaurants and shops in both of these too. I’m not as much a fan of the upscale tourism side of Paris so these arrondissements were more my style.
Love ❤️ this super insightful
I'm glad you loved it!
@@frenchguytheo Its funny how you have around 7 million or so people that live outside the Periphique in the rest of the Ile De France Paris Urban area but it seems as though those neighbourhoods are considered completely separate despite being a continuous urban sprawl, having said that, outside of the city of Paris proper, when I lived in Paris I only really found a few suburbs there interesting enough and worthy of a visit, like Neuilly Sur Seine, Clichy St Germain on Laye, Saint Denis and a few suburbs South of Paris in the metro area. It would be interesting to see you do a video on those area.
I stayed at the border of the 10th & 18th, then I suddenly lost myself and reached the 15th and just loved it, it was so quiet and felt very safe there (compared to the chaos and acitvity of the 10th & 18th) but yeah I found it to be mostly residential
Good to hear a video from a local about all the arr
Hello! Thanks for the video! Kinda agree with your tier-list :)
But I'd like to add a few things! Well I don't really think the "who lives here" applies when you put mainly residential areas in there (such as 15th)! Btw in the 15th there's rue du Commerce with a lot of specialty stores!
For the 12th I'd add "la coulée verte"!
In the 17th, the quartier Batignolles is really nice with a lot of restaurants, coffee shops... Also must visit "La cité des fleurs" which is a residential paved street with cute houses and a lot of trees and flowers during the spring/summer time.
As for the 19th/20th you can mention the quartier Mouzaïa, very quiet, paved and colorful houses.
In the 20th, the "Parc Belleville" with a great view of Paris and the street art are the heart of the arrondissement!
We can also mention an Asian community in Belleville (not as much as in the 13th), so it has a lot of Asian stores and restaurants there also.
Hope you learned some places, and I'd be glad to know new places also!!
Yes you are so right ! We can find beautiful districts everywhere ! The rankings were for fun 😉
Great video 👌👌
Thank you 😊
"When your touristic place is a graveyard, it means the place is not interesting".
Ahaha merci beaucoup!
I loved your video but I had to slow it down to evaluate your ranking of the different arrondissements. Your French/English accent is great too. Thanks.
Thank you ! Yes for the next ranking I should show more the tier list !
This is the frenchest video I've ever seen
Ahahaha
I think it all depends on what you want out of the city! I'm not rich at all, but got lucky on a place in the 7th and I really like it here. Especially since it's not too far by bike to go most places I want to be. I'm also not the kind of person who goes out all the time at night or to restaurants and it's quiet enough here, so I understand why people might want to live elsewhere. As an American I end up helping a lot of tourists 😂 And when people visit it's nice to be near a lot of monuments. The 15th is great if you have a family, and it has for me one best cinemas in Paris at Beaugrenelle 🎬🎥😊 Even after living here for 3 years I still feel there's so much to explore so I appreciate your takes!
Thank you so much for sharing your experience ! I think areas like the 7th or the 15th are perfect for long term, to have some quiet moment with the family and not be overwhelmed by the noise and the crowd
Love the 6th followed by the 5th, 16th and the 8th
I really love them too !
Bonjour! Excellent video. We are retired educators from Oregon/California (PDX/LA). We were in Ukraine helping a new school open in Lvivv for 5 months, one month in Krakow, and a month in Tallinn. Where do you think traveling seniors would enjoy and fit in? The 9th looks perfect. Where would you send your grandparents to live? Merci! Dean & Cindy
Totally off topic question, but have you seen the tv show Astrid? I'm watching it now and some of my high school French is coming back from 40 years ago! I also love seeing the scenes around Paris where it's also set (like your channel).
Oh I didn't know this show! Is it French?
@@frenchguytheo yes! It's a little quirky, but good. It's a crime show, but one of the specialists is a woman who is high functioning autistic
My grandmother had a huge house in Passy in the 16th. I still go back there when I’m in Paris and wander around - sadly the house has since been sold. Passy has my heart though.
It's a beautiful district!
From the UK..the 9th would be my favourite as well and I think it’s the area that most first time visitors are going to take to I really like the 20th as well. It’s affordable and quiet and just a lot less intense than the ‘too cool for school’ 11th. It has an authentic, unpretentious feel. For a anyone staying on a budget I think it’s the best choice.
I agree with you ! Thanks for teaching me the "too cool for school" quote for the first time, I LOVE IT 😍
@@frenchguytheo Haha I’m glad you like it! If anyone more relevant ones spring to mind I’ll add them..Good channel, you come across very authentically in front of the camera I hope it’s a success for you.
I love Pere-Lachaise! I always go there for a walk when I'm in Paris.
That's an incredible place!
that accent...i love it!!!
Mmmmmm well well, there are many things to say about this ranking, i'm born in Paris and lived all my life here, and it's hard to do a ranking, but since you did not destroy my 13th district, I'm gone give you a pass on that one ! 😂. No, all jokes appart, I would have prefered that the 13th would rank higher because it really changed over the years and there is "tones" of things to do nowadays, but hey, maybe in a future ranking you're goind to love us more !
you forgot to mention that in the 13th is the (quartier) rue Butte aux Cailles, it's a very cute street with bars and cafés and restaurants, and a lot of street art, very "village" like; for those who want to see a bit different side of Paris
Merci pour le video A little mistake La Rotonde is in the sixth arrondissement
As a single women coming to paris for 3 years due to work purpose which will be the safest neighbourhoods for renting a apartment?
Interesting Theo
Live in the 16th and many families here since you can find many rather large flats. Price per sqr meters are surprisingly not that high compared to the 15th or the 14th for instance.
Oh thanks for the info!
Bonjour! Merci pour I'information. I will be traveling to Paris early June, do you have any tips for best nightlife, hangout, social dancing and meeting people?
Oh I'm not the best expert for night life, I can recommend some speakeasy bars like La Candelaria (located in the backroom of a tacos shop) or Little Red Door ! Try Le Comptoir General also, it's wonderful !
@@frenchguytheo How's the weather out there for June?
Actually, there are many nice places in the 12th, with easy access to central Paris.
I live in the 12th, but i definitely need to spend more time in my district ahah
@@frenchguytheo 😀
As an American, I love the 4th and 10th but there are many shops in the 5th. Merci.
I love these districts too !
My fav is the 20th for sure. Place du Tetre, the I love you wall, winding cobblestone hills, great artists former digs...I can go on, BUT I think your rankings were very fair and actually spot on! GREAT JOB and very interesting - I just subscribed and I don't do that often!
The 18th!
You're talking about the 18th. (and it's place du Tertre, at the top of Montmartre next to the big white basilica)
Yes I think you are talking about the 18th, but thank you 😊
The place at 9:33 , could u tell the address?💐
Place du Trocadéro
@@phdelpeuchmerci!
great video.
i know they say every city has unsafe areas, but when you live in the united states with higher crime than france and come from saint louis and new orleans, both murder capitals in america, i wonder how the feeling of the areas will compare.
I lived in the 13th in 1985 whilst studying at The Sorbonne. Rue Dunois.
Great video. So I'm planning a trip to Paris later this year and I found a nice hotel next to Jaures metro station. Am I making a bad choice? The reviews of the hotel are good, but this is the first time I've heard that area is a bad spot. 😅
Jaurès is not the best spot, but you have the metro nearby and you can access many places in Paris from their
Odd that he missed La Villette in the 19th with its science museum and music complex.
do bezirke of say vienna berlin etc, barrios madrid seville, bouroughs of lindon , the districts of rome milano naples florence
Thank you sooo much! It was so useful. I'm moving to Paris, and it's so hard to select what district to live when you don't know the city. Hey people, what would be your fav district to live?
I think the Mexican artist Frida Kahlo ever visited the 6 Arrondisement , And eavesdropping the conversation of the artsy people of Surrealist genre scene in the cafe and in her letter that she wrote for the American pen friend , she showcases a sense of dislike sentiment to the folks from Surrealist art scene of Paris which she describe as the “ artistic bi-ches “ and their intellectual character that she describe as too much for her character but at the same time , her piece of work still kept in Centre Pompidou , which one and only art museum in Europe that display Frida Kahlo’s Work
The Surrealist could be really arrogant at that time ahah
I think your knowledge of the Left Bank is very limited. I grew up in the 13th, but spent most of my studies in the 5th and 6th. I absolutely love the 14th. You did not mention the Parc Montsouris, or all the restaurants and theaters near Montparnass and Rue de La Gaite! The 15th is also much more fun than you make it.
15th is underrated, everyone calls it boring despite its parcs, Beaugrenelle and Aquaboulevard
Theo when are you returning? Miss seeing you!
Bravo Frenchguy Théo! David in Bordeaux salutes you.
Thank you so much David!
I believe this ranking deeply depends on why you are ranking those districts for (tourisme or living). For exemple the 1st, I understand it can be a nice place to go out, but good luck living "place des innocents" or in one of those streets with many bars. You really have to invest in the best double glazing and sound insulation there. You won't be able to open your windows at night an sleep during the summer.
Some places you rated low (like the 14th) are for me among the best districts of Paris to live in: the are all kind of shops, some good bars, restaurants, cinema, ... but you also have many very quiet streets everywhere.
What is your favorite arrondissement in Paris?
I think the 13 and 15 are underated but I'm not sure. And if you live in the north of the 15 it's right near the 7 so I don't see how it's far. What I like about the 13 and 15 is the areas there that are more like La Défense
I think so ! I should make videos exploring those districts!
Perfect description. The 17th is sort of bipolar with 2 distinct halves. But the formerly 'iffy' part is improving markedly, altho the price for that is that it's becoming pricier..
first louvre, 7th orsay, 16th jacquemart andre, marmottan? cluny?; pompidou?
Which arrondissement do you live in, Theo?
I live in the 12th (kind of boring ahahah)
very interesting personalisation of the tier list 😊 my favourite is also the 2nd ! but to live, i will add to it 6th, 7th & 15th. for holiday it will be 2nd, 5th, 10th. however it also really depends on the precise location within the arrondissements themselves as well as your interests especially near the borders of other arrondissements. in the central areas 1st, 2nd, 9th, the passages couverts can also be scenic short cuts aside from having great little restaurants & specialty shops. one thing i like about the 15th (aside from its quiet residential status) is its proximity to vanves for both the weekend flea market as well as the tramline to take for a view of paris & an option from the metro.
Merci !
I lived in Paris for about 18 months starting in 1975. It was very interesting to me to hear your comments about each arrondissement since I’m sensed big changes on my visits there, especially in the last 15 years. The 6th was my favorite but it’s become much more touristic. Tourists always went there for Cafe de Flore and places like that, but the core of the neighborhood was students/university people and now those people are all gone. At night the side streets are much quieter-I get the impression that more apartments are owned by rich people, French or foreigners, who don’t live there full time. But I will have to spend more time in the 9th, which was considered a bit boring 50 years ago.
I agree with you! I think some areas who were boring 10 years ago, like the 9th or the 10th are the new districts were students and dynamic people love to hang out!
I love the 11th arrondissement because of its hipster-ness! I ended up staying there for my first visit to Paris, because it has a lot of great vegetarian and vegan food options which I need. I do love the 10th also!
Both 11th and 10th are really interesting districts !
Mistake jardin de Luxembourg is in 6th arrondissement not in 5th.
I love the 10th. I always stay in areas near place de la République.. been there for the 12th time last month. But it’s getting gentrified through the years.which it may loose its charm.
Oh I see what you mean ! I think it's getting gentrified near the Canal saint martin, but it's also so cute !
👌
where do you live?
14th arrondissement gang 😛
Let's go 💪
To each his own.....
Zi accen is isurpotabelebeu 😅
Sorry but it seems that you really don’t know very well Paris. It s like somebody who judge the districts depending on theirs metro stations. I think you don t know the hidden places that make each Arrondissement special, at least you do not mentioned particularly facts for tourists. Waiting for following news ✌️😎
the 15th has many great areas such as Gaité, Edgard quinet etc.. That makes your ranking a bit less relevant
Gaité is in 14th though, yeah Avenue du Maine is kinda between the 15th and the 14th
Great information on each arrondissement.
Thank you!
Go and learn English is better for you 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
As a native English speaker, I can say Theo speaks English really well - I understood him perfectly and there's nothing wrong with having a non-native accent if that's what you mean. The biggest irony of all is the level of English in your comment 😅... Enough said.
Don't be rude!
