13 months after filming this stunt for GoPro, Uli Emanuele died in wingsuit accident. He actually filmed his own death. This is all you need to know about the level of danger involved.

It was actually filmed more than 2 years before Uli died..He wasnt sponsored by Go pro til about a year and half after stunt and many cameras were used .. multiple Sony Hd etc..but because of Go pro sponsoring and releasing on their channel only go pro footage was allowed to be used.
If you have watched the specials on this you would see how these people who have lost friends and spouses continue to speak of their addiction to the sport. They sound like drug addicts who have seen loved ones die of heroin overdoses but can't bring themselves to quit. Seinfeld did a bit in his stand up about that in the 90s. Like helmets talking back in the locker room, "Thank god I had that guy under me, or I'd have hit the ground directly!"
Whenever I see one of these old wingsuit videos the sad part is I always ask myself, "I wonder if they're dead yet" and the answer always turns out to be "yes".
Cry about it all you want, but it’s 100% true. 99% of wing suit divers end up as red mist within 5 years. It’s a fact, look up the statistics dude. Is it sad? Absolutely. Is it untrue? Absolutely not.
@@Whoazer86 then why isn't Jeb Corliss, Sean MacCormac, and hundreds of other wingsuit pilots not that splat of red mist as you refer to it as, after well over 5 years of wingsuit flights??
Don't do that about mountaineers either if you read about or watch video's on people who engage in high-risk activities, you start to like them because you get to know the person through their writing their hopes, ambitions, relationships with family members. Then you learn they died before their 30th birthday completely alone on the side of a mountain after their friends had to leave them because they had to save themselves. After reading enough books about people who do this stuff you realize, that your good with just watching these sorts of things.
This is the type of sport Is do if I were all alone in the world, and had absolutely nothing to lose! Because I'm sure that it would be the end of me, sooner or later! Godspeed to those who are really in to this stuff though! It's really cool to watch the videos that they make while doing it!

Inspirational Quote None. It had nothing to do with that. These guys would do it without a camera. We’re just lucky enough to get to watch. Makes amazing video! But I sure wouldn’t have the balls to do it.
That was incredible daring and skill, and a video that I would never have seen without him, but demands a super human quality of perfection every time. RIP Uli, and all the wing suiters who've passed on
Captain Cairo he chose to live an risky life and career. Though he probably had fun it’s probably pretty common sense to know flying up to 200mph is not safe is you crash. On the contrary you can argue driving your car is just as dangerous since every year there are million of car crashes but I doubt anyone is purposely going through holes only 2 meters big.
@@NerdyNEET looks like it. Thats sad but is bound to happen doing stupid stuff like this just for views. Its not like gopro cares, they encourage this stuff as long as you buy their camera to film your death.
“There are a lot of people saying a lot of things about wingsuit BASE deaths. There is no single factor, and there is truth in every statement about ego, video, complacency, access, summer vacations, etc. But if we were to work on just one thing, it would be education … The simple truth is that wingsuit BASE jumpers don’t know what they are getting into, don’t know how to practice the sport safely, and don’t even know enough to know how little they know. “ -Matt Gerdes, chief test pilot and co-designer at Squirrel.
I can only imagine how free that this must make you feel Wingsuit flying looks amazing. Before reading the comments my initial thoughts were that while this guy is very talented, it is a bit too reckless to do what he did. Talent can only bring you so far and there are always things beyond anyone's control that can easily bring death. But I doubt he was doing this for the admiration of others. Deep inside, I think he must have really loved this. I am sure that I would, too. Rest in peace Uli. I cannot judge, or do anything but be very grateful for the parts of your life you shared with us all. Ultimately, I do feel that you made the world a more beautiful place, and that is a very good thing. So many spend very long lives spreading greed, and selfishness, or ugliness to the world. As short as your life was, what you did with it was make beauty in flight. I wish you peace and a great next step in your journey.
Yeah, and it doesn't serve any purpose. What's the sense of flying through a small cave...? I get the thrill of wingsuit flying, I get it, and I think it can be done relatively safe. It's the way they are pushing the limits what kills them...
He died a year later. RIP. "Uli Emanuele (29), an Italian BASE jumper, died in a crash at Lauterbrunnen in Switzerland while shooting a new video. The other fatality was a 49 year-old Briton who jumped from the "High Ultimate" peak at Muerren and who also crashed into a cliff."
@@Ytremz If you believe in the “theory” of evolution you believe in the big bang - the nothingness explosion that created everything. Darwin was full of sh*t.
I've nearly died climbing and had some terrifying experiences in my 22 years as a gymnast. This kind of stuff takes the biscuit though. The level of risk simply doesn't seem worth it for a few million youtube views. Sad to hear many of these amazing athletes pass away incredibly young.
@@TheSeppentoni It's hard not to say: "He had it coming". But people who do reckless stuff like this, just for that extra adrenaline rush, will eventually kill themselves in the process. It is known. And if you take the risk anyway, because you can't say no, then you do have it coming.

Perhaps because it’s not hard at all to believe it? I mean, look at these stunts? That’s what makes them so special: that they are death-defying. Alas, you can only defy death for so long...
It's funny how when people like this guy have the balls to do insane shit and they succeed, everyone's like "WOAH AWESOME." But when he dies he's suddenly an idiot piece of shit who had it coming. He did these things knowing the risks, he most likely knew he was living on borrowed time. Why can't we respect and honor his memory, his stunts, and his massive balls? Seriously why are people so bitter and sometimes angry at him for pushing the limits and living the way he wanted to?
That's not the same people. Look at "Against the instinct" from his own channel. The spot where he jumped probably was too extreme... but one of the last picture when he was flying and smiling to his friend, is... marvelous. He looked so glad and in peace.
Nitrouge Fury Its a different world than yours that judges harshly..... it's the GROWN-UPS, who wear chains of responsibility, so that their CHILDREN, like Uli, can LIVE...... not die chasing a dream. It's the GIVERS that become BITTER, when a life ends in avoidable tragedy......no matter how HIGH the preceeding HIGH was.
Because a lot of people are trying to surpress their subconscious knowledge of their own imminent mortality, and especially that they'll die without ever having their greatest dreams come true, so when someone else fails at a challenge, it makes these scared people feel better, because now they can more easily justify never having tried to face their fears
When performance is bigger than luck and foolishness is bigger than performance. This is something that impresses me in no way. Really nothing more to say.
Has to be about as daredevil as one can get.People saying it's stupid or suicidal,at least these guys go out and push the boundaries doing what they love. They know the risks and if they go they will die having lived more than most of us.
I know right! I was about to say that... It is weird how go pro can take any camera and make it look really good when on that camera it wouldn't look good at all... It's weird and I want to know what's going on because gopros never look that good unless it's on the channel... I don't get it
William Leach It's a matter of choosing the right settings for each situation and carefully post-producing the result (colour correction, optics compensation...) Also, a properly set-up Hero2 can deliver better results than a Hero3+ Silver, in many scenarios.
William Leach @william: 1.) using protune 2.) proper colour/sharpness editing software....and good weather/ lighting is REALLY important too... hope i helped :)
Idk what it was about 2015-2019 but every body was sending it so hard. The ones who are alive today I see don’t participate so much any more. It’s definitely a selfish sport when you have people who love you & would be devastated if you die doing what you love.
It is the families, mothers, fathers, girlfriends, boyfriends who endure the emotional shattering and are challenged to somehow put their lives back together. If those who do this “sport” could look into the immediate future and see the inevitable outcome to those they love, I think fewer who jump. To the dead, one owes respect. To the living, only the truth. -Voltaire
He didn't do it for GoPro, it was his life. Look up his interviews. Once he got a kitchen job on a mountain lodge so he could fly home in his wingsuit after work.
dirtbiker145 Not really. Wingsuit flying is now so safe and predictable that there's now a need to spice things up. This can only mean that the blindfold test will soon be next.
Most of them just die. I'd say because they push the limit too hard with the "proximity flying". As long as you maintain more than 40-50 meters of altitude, it should be significantly safer. And I think even the pros plan their lines very carefully, with elevation maps and such.
Cool but reckless. It's funny how man always feels he needs to push the envelope all the time. It's not cool enough to just be able to fall from a plane and open an parachute or fly using a wing suit. He has to keep getting more extreme and more extreme. A stunt is not worth a life. At least that's how I feel about mine.
Gadget Jeff TV Imagine what will be next in the years to come. These stunts will be as trivial as skydiving has become eventually. Human ambition is a hell of a drug.
I'd rather die doing something I love, and something that gives me the biggest rush of my life, than wasting away doing jackshit because of all the 'what ifs'. You die in 80 years anyway, and if you live beyond that you're just a husk, unable to do anything like this due to age. Don't fear death because it's coming no matter what.
***** When I start a family, my viewpoint will change. Right now due to the circumstances in which I am living, this is my viewpoint and I defend it. Besides, I wasn't saying everyone should go wingsuiting through a 2m gap. You can still do what you love and live life to the fullest without risking your life.
Amer Reggie Do the same thing without the rocks, and then if possible try it out by going through a larger hole. It's about aiming, and obviously knowing how to use the gear.
Amer Reggie I've seen a few videos where they use polystyrene targets and balloons etc at certain heights from the ground to see how low they can go and how accurately they can fly, did I also mention that stupidity is the main requirement, and stupidity requires no training. What we see here has nothing to do with courage.....
Alphonsus Jr. Do you think all extreme sports are just stupidity in action then? If so, I hope you find excitement in other areas of life. We all view the world, not to mention our personal goals, differently. The way I picture you from this context, this man is more courageous than you will ever be.
People who do things like this are going to risk their life regardless. It is just an added bonus that they are able to film themselves doing it. They are fully aware of the risks before doing it.
Just INSANE! This guy looked like he was threading a needle, he was the thread and the rock formation was the needle. The skill, the calm nerves, the precision....it really is on par with a surgeon or perhaps even greater. He is an aerial surgeon! AMAZING!
It's not a tragedy to die doing something you really love. We all have a check out date in life...this guy experienced things very few people in the world ever will. Sure it's sad for his family and loved ones..but it's who he was. People live life all the time..never pushing the boundaries. Is he a idiot? Not to me..sounds like he lived life his way...
Tell that to his mother, who raised him for over 30 years. Tell that to his kids, who now have no dad and mom needs to work several jobs to make ends meet. Not to mention those who have to clean up after his remains. It's actually an extremely selfish act!!!
Tony cozzette ahhh yes having a future ahead of me, although I unfortunately died because of my hobby, tbh i don’t know how you can sit there and write this wasn’t a tragedy HE DIED..., im sure if you were a relative of his or close to him you’d have a different opinion...
Respect to all those that play hard and enjoy their passions. He'd still be flying if he didn't choose to try harder and harder flight paths. There's a difference between terrifying suicidal addictions and having fun. He was only 29. My family lost a friend that raced motorcycles professionally. We all understand and respect the decision he made but it doesn't change the pain and loss we all have in our hearts. Flying at those speeds through chosen obstacles like the one in this video is borderline suicidal. It's an unhealthy high risk addiction. But maybe better than being forced to live on a life support breathing app on a drip with a catheter at 90. I know he didn't commit suicide but at the same time ...... Big Balls
I look at this video and can't think anything other than what a stupid risk to take. I can understand possible non-permanent injury risk but this just feels stupid. The music doesn't really help either.
Ok...I don't think I have seen such an overwhelming combination of raw guts and skill. There is NO room at all for a mistake in calculation. He's facing his death with abandon.

One of the most dangerous things I've ever seen anyone do and the most dangerous thing I've ever seen from anyone with a glide suit! There was zero room for error!
@@davidbarth80 it's a coincidence that you say this. A friend and I were just talking and comparing free climbing, extreme parkour, extreme kayaking and taking selfies whilst edge walking, hanging or performing stunts from tall structures, as being similarly dangerous to suit gliding. I'm surprised but glad more people do not die doing these extreme activities. (Even though many have died recently, including one of Honnold's friends).
@Czterdziestysiódmy bro, I don't criticize his actions, I admire them! I just cringe when I see it because it is so extreme, but I'm glad I get to see something so amazing, at least in a video.
@Czterdziestysiódmy I don't know, everyone has their personal reasons and many people are irresponsible and do end up getting hurt or killed, but I still admire the fearlessness and the ability to push the limits. I don't admire the irresponsibility of some of them, but if some people take part in risky activities and they know the risks or possible consequences and are willing to accept them, then that is everyone's personal prerogative and there's nothing we can do about it. I used to do many extreme activities when I was younger and fearless, but now I have a family and much to lose, so now I also have fear and or respect for dangers, so I avoid them... mostly. Seems we tend to learn fear as we age.

Wow, you did put a lot of effort into this information! The deathrate looks almost exponential. Would be interesting to see it in relation to wingsuit flyers. Well every death is tragic, but some seem to be even more so, even though one could argue, that this is a death which can be avoided.

Similar to Alex Honnold's Free Solo climb.
He's dead now www.thejournal.ie/base-jumping-deaths-switzerland-2935413-Aug2016/
One of the most craziest stunts I've ever seen! This guy obviously forgets how precious life is

Wow, you did put a lot of effort into this information! The deathrate looks almost exponential. Would be interesting to see it in relation to wingsuit flyers.
Well every death is tragic, but some seem to be even more so, even though one could argue, that this is a death which can be avoided.

@@HardestTargett Very good commentary. The more risk someone takes, the more likely it is that the outcome will be fatal. We can all die at crosswalks, for example, but the probability is low. However, with such a big risk, the probability of a short life is very high. But not all wingsuit flyers take such a high risk! And these sensible flyers are still flying today!
