Happy day's you got that extra power! It certainly helps with the overall capabilities of the boat. Just need those oars and grab ropes!! 😅 I'm going to try my Tohatsu 20hp motor on the back of the T40 in the coming weeks after I get back from holiday. I will throw up a video of that measuring the speeds.
I would love to spend some time on a Honwave! I almost bought the new T38 but the ally deck was important to me, the Scout was just a better match for my needs. Maybe one day!
@@TheReelIsle I bought mine on a whim, I was looking at lots of sibs, and my sea faring buddy said Honwave are the best apparently, so I quickly bought a used one hahahha, I'd like aluminium deck as I'll be fishing from it mainly, so hooks are a bad combo hahah, but figured I'd be sat down most of the time, and be careful. The honwave airdeck carves REALLY well, LOVE IT mate 😉
Brilliant footage buddy, now that you've tried the Scout, is she better than the Carbon Pro BW? I'm looking at both? Not sure now. Also you mentioned both the BW and Excel are getting newer models? Cant find when?
Thank you mate. To be honest comparing the performance of the BW 365 with the Scout 400 isn't a fair comparison as the hull dimensions will naturally perform differently. I'm fairly confident that the BW 400 and Scout 400, and the BW 365 and Scout 365, would perform the same. Same design. The big difference is the fittings. The plain tubes of the Scout have won me over recently. I kinda like them! Still need to fit some oar locks though. You'll be very happy with either boat. The new BW is available March, and you can preorder now. I'm told they've addressed the issues I raised in my first BW 365 video. Not sure when the next Scout is released. Enjoy!
Hi Tony, it's really difficult for me to compare by 3.6m Carbon Pro with the 4m Scout - the hull dimensions make them totally different boats performance wise. The 4m hull does move through the water better and all fittings and materials are very very similar. I would guess that the Scout and Carbon models of the same size would perform very similarly! I'd love to put them side by side, but Excel or Boatworld would need to send me a loan boat to test
Agreed, unless the transom doesn't support it and you want to stay within the spec of the boat. I bought my engine during covid, could only get my hands on the 15 variant. I've kept the 15 ecu and restrictor to resell later
@@TheReelIsle hehe or you just relabel the hood ;-), ... , i think if ur going out on the ocean, then a 20 hp capable transom is the min I would be comfortable with. But I am in Australia and even in the bay here in QLD , it gets very choppy, never see the smooth seas as in ur videos , ...
It's inflated on my driveway and ready to go if opportunity presents itself. I will not do a direct performance comparison between the 3.6m Carbon and 4m Scout however - different hull dimensions being apples and oranges. I'd love to compare the equivalent from each range though, if the opportunity to loan came a out
@@TheReelIsle I've got my eye on a Carbon pro if my Xmas bonus works out from work, it says on boat worlds site that it can take a 20hp, just wondering if the extra few hundred quid over a 15hp would be worth it
Oh nice! Well a couple points: JCBW at checkout will give you £50 off Borika mounts or seat bags. Just add £500 to your basket and you'll be able to use that code. No kickback or incentive for me. Spend some time thinking about whether you would like a 3.6m or a 4m. Personally I think the 4m option will go through the water better than the 3.6m. It is however heavier and is at the limit for me personally to handle solo without a proper boat trailer. There are pros and cons as always, the 3.6 will be easier to handle, setup and put away. The 4m is much bigger and roomier, even though on paper it doesn't sound it. I will try and get out to test the 20hp for you before Xmas. Note that my engine rpms were a little low on the Carbon 3.6m so I changed to a 9" prop. My rpms were higher with the Scout 4m - in other words the engine had an easier time pushing the 4m hull. It makes me think there won't be much difference between the 15 and 20 on the 3.6 - assumption. As you can see in my videos, the 3.6 Carbon is very viable with a 15! Top speed around 17-18mph or so depending, but its all about the half or 3/4 throttle cruising speed;)
Why not Chinese motor? I just put on my Terhi brand new motor from China of 30 HP and it was just 1500 USD including delivery and customs cost to Kazakhstan, Almaty. I have 25 MPH with much bigger boat.
Change propeller to 11,5 pitch and you will see different 2-3 mph extra I have same size boat , 20 hp tohatsu 27 mph And other things about ECU, you don't need new ECU for 20hp, just need to install new program for 20hp, one guy from Lithuania done for mee, and it cost 130 eur... And i hope you removed air restrictor (round steel washer with a hole)
I may give that a go, what's the boat you have? My engine rpm range is perfect with the 10" but I'm open to try. Yes I removed the restrictor plate. I opted to buy a new ECU, so I could keep the 15hp ECU and plate in case i sell the engine. Can either sell it as a 20hp, or as a 15hp, then sell the spare ecu
The Carbon Pro and the Scout are the same boat with different fittings. I'm retrofitting items to my scout that come as standard with the Carbon Pro. Both boats of the same size should perform the same on the water.
If you're based in the Isle of Man my Carbon Pro and wheels are up for Sale. Otherwise JCBW at checkout on the Boatworld website will get you seat bag or borika mount discount when buying a boat. Enjoy!
@@TheReelIsle thanks, I'm on the North Wales coast of Conwy river.. Nice, thanks for the code. How come your selling your pro if it's the compete boat with all you need?

Thanks

Haha yes mate, really does need those oars. I used some rope between the d rings as grab ropes! Look forward to your test results!
i have a 10 yr old t38 ie with a 20hp tohatsu ........ LOVE IT :) i cant believe how capable it is for a sub £5k set-up

also 9.9,15 and 20 Tohatsu are the same engine, so same weight, ,and very close in price, so no point buying less than the 20 ;-).
