  • In this video, some friends and I set out to explore the rim of the amazing Pisgah Gorge near the town of Pisgah across the Tennessee River from Scottsboro, Alabama. This super easy trail provides stunning views of huge waterfalls and deep canyon overlooks.
There are two large waterfalls to see from nice viewpoints and a spectacular viewpoint looking down the canyon toward the Tennessee River.
Unfortunately, misadventure led to my having to descend into the canyon in n attempt to retrieve my drone, but that adventure showed that even much of the upper canyon route is reasonably accessible to an average hiker.
It was a beautiful sunny mid-winter day and we had quite the adventure in the Pisgah Gorge.

Wow great looking views. Amazing is right. Flying through the gorge was really nice. It’s so great to have a drone in places like this. Oh no I saw that branch come out on the left. I thought you would be able to get the drone back. At least you got the footage. I’m surprised that you didn’t seem too upset about it. 👍

Thanks! I was a little upset, but got over it by the time I turned my camera on. The hardest part was walking away in the end while it was still communicating with my controller. Kind of broke my heart. 😥 You didn't get to see most of my attempts at retrieving it (I was focused on retrieving it and not on filming). I've had it for about 3 years and have gotten my money's worth out of it. And I had been thinking about getting a new one with some different features anyway. Thanks for watching! 👍

It is spectacular! A real hidden gem. In the end, the drone is just a tool that can be replaced. It just hurt to walk away from it while it was still talking to my remote. Thanks for watching!! 👍

I thought that I had commented earlier, but it isn’t showing up now. 🤷🏻‍♂️
I just live about 1.5 miles from there and have shot several videos there, but your drone footage really shows how awesome our gorge really is! Hate that you lost your drone. I’ve wondered about carrying a collapsible rod & reel with a larger treble hook for retrieving drones. 🤔
If you walk up to the top of the upper falls, you can still see the large concrete pad where the Town of Pisgah had its own generator in the early 1900s. Pisgah was the first town on Sand Mountain to have electricity. The house that my parents live in was originally built by my great-great grandfather and was the first house in Pisgah to be wired for an electric light!

Yeah. We talked about how we wished we had a big fishing pole. We first went to the top of the falls to try and see if we could get to the drone, but couldn't see it from there. I didn't film because I was focused on trying to retrieve it. I've been to the top before and have seen the concrete structures. I figured there was some sort of hydropower installation there, but had no idea about the history. That's awesome! Thanks for filling us in! 👍

@@SoutheasternFrontiers Like I said…I literally grew up up traipsing through those woods. I’ve been working for a couple of years to secure landowner permission to make the hike all the way out of that gorge to the Tennessee River, but haven’t been able to get in contact with a couple of the landowners. 🤷🏻‍♂️

That would be awesome! What an incredible trail that would be! Let me know if there is something I can do to help with that effort. 👍
