It's funny you say this cause I read an article years ago on the site, A Practical Wedding, where the writer shared that every year, on or near their anniversary, she and her partner do a performance review on each other about their relationship.
Ahh yes, the "once-in-a-decade" sighting of Craig! Every time I see him I think he should put on a toga and speak about philosophy, the vibes are strong.
The tearing up is real! I think that’s the gigantic gaping hole in relationship advice: if you have to keep upping the ante to keep the interest alive, at least one of you is not interested in the other. And that the advice is usually geared toward women… well, that’s another rant.
I'm so glad to hear you talking about the having a crush on other people. One of the most mindblowing moments I've had was when Leena was just casually mentioning in a previous video that you can have thoughts of cheating on your partner but you don't have to act on those thoughts. Really rid me of very confusing thoughts about my long term relationship haha
Wow, seeing you two talk... I'm so happy and not at all jealous 😂😂😂 honestly, you've confirmed what I already knew, when you are compatible with someone and you want to make it work, it's just....easy. P.S. : Craig is really likeable!
@Jeannareadsbooks8475 The Redwall series is delightful! My only problem was keeping track of the order of all the sequels, pre-google, when I was also getting them from my local library. I think it’s time for a re-read!
I really love that Craig felt comfortable talking about baldness. My dad lost all of his hair at 19 and it took him a very long time to come to terms with it. He would have really valued this conversation when he was a young man.
I really feel you on the working with someone you love & trust being easier for your brain! I also used to struggle with feeling like I couldn’t be real or myself at work, and the work definitely suffered as a result because I was afraid of looking stupid or saying the wrong thing. I work with a family member now and while it definitely doesn’t work for anyone - we have that level of honesty and trust, as well as flexibility that in my case has really helped me grow professionally.
My grandfather was from Yorkshire, and his name is Brian Jacques (no relation, as far as I’m aware), and my father shares the same name. This is the first time I’ve ever heard their names pronounced correctly by someone who doesn’t know them, and it’s made me oddly wistful and tearfully emotional. I live in the US, and I’ve only ever had one person (a high school picture day photographer) pronounce my last name correctly. Typically it’s some variation of a French-speaking or Spanish-speaking pronunciation. Hearing my family name in a family accent has me all welled up. Such a random and unrelated take on the video, but thank you for that!
The bit about not being able to hash things in a "normal workplace' is very interesting and, I think, very British. In a lots of country it's normal to be honest with your feeling in the workplace and being able to resolve a conflict without being passive agressive show skills and experiences. I find it fun that it's the total opposite in the UK x)
Omg, the entire description of how your relationship works is exactly how I’d describe my marriage. It just works. It’s easy most of the time. All the best long term relationships seem to be this way. It just flows. It doesn’t need to be complicated. Love seeing this kind of comfortable love. Steve is so articulate. Nice to see a man who opens up so freely.
Idk if it was an actual invitation to comment- but i LOVE the complete seperation between my work and personal life. Im 22 and just my first full time job a few weeks ago, its good pay in a good part of the city, and its really far away from my actual home so theres no chance ill ever see anyone from work when im not there. Its a job where i have zero contact with my boss or co-workers outside of the building. Compared to most of my friends, who do get emails and texts outside work hours (even if they aren't expected to respond, i still think it interrupts their personal lives to get that contact from work). Also there is this whole thing with being trans i suppose (lol) where im very much in the closet at work in order to make good money (Its fucking sad, but if youre out as trans you dont get the same opportunities). For me the division between work and personal life is kind of essential for my survival, because it helps me to have a version of myself thats just for me, and a version of myself that can go into work and be paid a living wage with an alright job. Which is something i may not have access too if i was 'more authentic'
I used to watch Craig's videos even before you were together (your too, Leena) and it's so wild, because I'm probably older now then you were when I started watching you guys (I'm 25 now) and it has just been a delight to see you two growing into such a nice life
This was so enjoyable to watch and listen to you talk. I specially liked the reliationship part. Sometimes I worry my partner and I have a relationship that may not last, but the way you talked about yours being easy and both wanting out of conflict when it happens, crushes being allowed and not seen as a sin... It all just resonated with me! So thank you!
On the vegetarian/vegan thing. Hilariously my partner has had a similar trajectory to Craig in that I am a vegetarian who has developed some kind of dairy sensitivity over the course of our relationship and so he eats vegetarian at home and basically only eats meat sometimes when we go out.
First, and most important, I love the once-in-a-decade Craig appearance. Second, I physically couldn’t watch this because the complete disregards Craig has for physics when holding his tea in the beginning 😂
I love this video! The vibe is so warm and cozy. I’m so happy to see you both so comfortable around each other. And to see and man who is such a walking green flag restores my hope in humanity a bit.
That was very cute guys! I will never understand the need of people to know what's going n on other people's lives (that you don't know personally), but I'm up to hearing new things haha I'm commenting on this question though... : "How do you keep things interesting?" that's like... if things aren't interesting why force it? just find a person that fits better how you feel at this point in your life...
This was lovely and very interesting! Figuring out how to be in a relationship but still be your own person can be difficult, so the fact that you've both managed to make a business relationship work on top of that is commendable. Excuse me, The Sound of Music IS the best movie!! (I am also partial to Mary Poppins, just a lot of Julie Andews love in this house). Aaaand you just reminded me to go preorder your book, wohooo!
Love all these answers so much! This is the kind of relationship I want in the future. I’m a huuuge fan of doing a post-argument post-mortem. For me, in the past it’s led to both getting closer + happier with someone, and break ups. Either way it’s positive, what you want from your relationship becomes clearer each time. My opinion on the crush thing has changed a lot over time. Tbh I still feel that jealousy so at this point in my life (I’m 25 so that probs has a lot to do with it lmao) I don’t want to hear about it, but I accept it happens and it’s fine - it happens to me too so I can’t be a hypocrite. One day I’m sure I’ll be in a relationship where my partner can tell me about a harmless crush and it won’t bother me at all. I think a lot of this comes from maturity + experience and understanding that something can make you uncomfortable, but nobody’s in the wrong. Wanting a lot of control over your partner is understandable in some ways, especially if you’re really insecure, but it doesn’t mean you’re OWED anything and doesn’t make it healthy or okay to enforce. I struggle a lot with knowing what I should accept in relationships, and also knowing when it’s fair to project my emotions onto someone. Seeing videos like this and hearing people in healthy relationships talk about things is so, so helpful! ❤
Thank you both for this wonderful video! I feel like my partner and I have very similar relationship values to you, but I feel like so much online relationship advice is very controlling (as Craig mentioned), so love this kinda rep for us!👏🏻 Also, before the last question was even mentioned, I was thinking that Craig has (respectfully) aged like a fine wine since we last saw him!🍷
As someone who grew up with self employed parents, I'd like to say that your work relationship sounds very healthy. I'm glad to hear that you did the paperwork and all. My parents never did. I worked for both my parents for almost a decade and we never put it on paper; it all came down to trust. It worked great with my mum, but not with my dad. Also, since dad started his business when I was 10, I basically worked for him since then and mostly for free. I think it makes a huge difference that Craig have worked elsewhere, before becoming employed to you. I never knew that there should be contracts involved; I didn't even know that I should've been paid or how unreasonably small my hourly pay was, when mom started paying me. When I later started working a "real job", alongside helping out dad and working for my mom, I didn't even know to question that pay either (which in part is also a lack of education in school). Yes, I am burnt out today, thank you very much.
Hair is so gender though! Conversely, as a non-binary person I feel more feminine with shorter hair, and more masculine/androgynous with long hair. Lovely to see Craig and hear from you both
Oh man, I loved Redwall. I still own most of the books. I also own the Redwall cookbook. XD As a friend of mine once said, "After a while, the Redwall books were all the same book, but it was a good book, so you didn't mind."
The pictures of Craig before he shaved his head threw me off momentarily bc he looked so much like one of my friends 😅 Also watching this video just made me realize how well you two are suited to each other! It’s in the way you two speak so eloquently about things and how you speak about things you’re passionate about. Also I noticed a lot of mannerisms that you two share and it’s honestly quite cute ahahaha
As someone who walked the west highland way in Scotland and the cliff paths in Menorca with my long boyfriend, I am dying with your solo holiday answer. Steps the size of half my legs and he has the gall to be amused when I‘m out of breath (all in good faith though, at least he‘s a slow walker normally so I can be amused right back on normal Sunday walks)
Loving this video. I’ve been watching your channel just before you moved out of London. It’s interesting to hear from Craig and see how you both work together. It seems like you are so well matched 👍😊
It's funny to hear your thoughts on monogamy, cause they're really similar to my thoughts on non-monogamy! All the same stuff about not policing other people's thoughts and not being able to build a relationship instantly, but instead my partner and I don't mind if it goes beyond a crush.... I'd be surprised if we ended up with another person in either of our lives in a similar way (especially cause I think I have CFS and no spare energy, and my partner is aromantic and a bit oblivious to romantic advances), but maybe in a different way? But yeah, either of us wanting something else wouldn't mean throwing out everything we've built in our 6 years so far
Not sure if it's because I'm American or because I only found you a few months ago and subscribed, but the "frog snog out" is so hilarious and cute to me. What's the origin story of that? Is there a video somewhere explaining it?
I'm not sure how much more I have to say about it to be fair. There's a great book called 'Bald' by Stuart Heritage if your partner is interested? I also found the TH-cam channel @baldcafe massively helpful!
Really loved hearing about early hair loss. My BF went through almost the exact same thing in the pandemic when he was in his mid 20s - it’s not uncommon and people don’t talk about it enough! He’s now also a lot more into fashion and clothes made in the UK so this might come with the territory 😄
Loved the video, amazing stuff, so wonderful to hear you talk at length about all of the questions you answered, just want to know how Craig doesn't know who Michael Flatley is. Come on man
Pffft, I'd say Craig is a vegetarian, I'd say someone is a vegetarian even if they have meat a couple times a month. If 95% of the meals don't have meat, I think that makes that person a vegetarian. Use the label! Prosper!
REDWALL! I love that Craig has a tattoo of it-Basil Stag Hare would approve. I started rereading the series during the pandemic and introduced my husband to the first book this year. Did you all have the kids’ animated version of it growing up? It aired on public television in the US when we were kids.
IYKYK, here in Vermont (US) the Von Trapp Family ultimately settled after that famous trek over the Alps. They run a successful ski resort, brewery, and event space to this day. A local theatre company just performed a live production of the music numbers on site there in an upper medow. Rumor has it they are preparring an autumn run and have invited Dame Julie Andrews to attend - which is the prime time to visit us since the hills are alive with decaying maple foliage
I am fascinated by Craig's perfect vampire hands and I ventured to the comments to get that off my chest so I can scroll back up to concentrate. edit: spelling was off due to my fascination and lack of concentration
I’m from the north of Derbyshire which is very different from the city of Derby itself. We, (almost everyone I know) agree we feel much more northern than Midlanders.
Today is date night, which we will combine with your quarterly performance review.
hahah this exactly. Appraisals by candlelight!
It's funny you say this cause I read an article years ago on the site, A Practical Wedding, where the writer shared that every year, on or near their anniversary, she and her partner do a performance review on each other about their relationship.
I call this night: State of the Affair.
@@young20something indeed, the problem will come if you start employing other people as well, and they naturally want the same, erm, benefits.
Ahh yes, the "once-in-a-decade" sighting of Craig! Every time I see him I think he should put on a toga and speak about philosophy, the vibes are strong.
🙏🙏🙏
Can't unsee that now
😆 you guys funny
What a good point about your partner becoming your family and how we don't think "how do I keep this interesting" with our families.
I sometimes have? But not too often & it came from a place of insecurity around my presence
This is how I feel with my partner too, he's my family member at this point. I think this is a good dynamic!
A 50 minute video? Let me boil a kettle first Leena!! 🎉
i love “I dont exactly know how to keep the relationship interesting because Im Interested”
this! i had to pause the video, it hit me so hard I started crying 😄damn you Craig!
The tearing up is real!
I think that’s the gigantic gaping hole in relationship advice: if you have to keep upping the ante to keep the interest alive, at least one of you is not interested in the other. And that the advice is usually geared toward women… well, that’s another rant.
Yeah, i loved that! Me and my partner talked about this just a few days ago..
i feel closer to leena knowing we’ve both drunkenly eaten chips on the cathedral ruins
As the Holy Spirit intended
I'm so glad to hear you talking about the having a crush on other people. One of the most mindblowing moments I've had was when Leena was just casually mentioning in a previous video that you can have thoughts of cheating on your partner but you don't have to act on those thoughts. Me too! Thoughts aren’t actions or facts - that’s been hard for me to accept on both ends.
The angle of Craig's tea mug is giving me a panic attack 😅
THIS!! I was ignorant of the situation while having it as a podcast in the background, then peeked the screen and ANXIETY
haha oops!
If you could interview couples written by Mhairi McFarlane this is what I imagine they’d say 5-10 years down the line from the end of the book ❤
Omg that is the most niche and wonderful compliment I think anyone has ever paid us !!!
This is such a heartwarming comment
Wow, seeing you two talk... I'm so happy and not at all jealous 😂😂😂 honestly, you've confirmed what I already knew, when you are compatible with someone and you want to make it work, it's just....easy.

Those books about animals with accents sound legendary
@Jeannareadsbooks8475 The Redwall series is delightful! My only problem was keeping track of the order of all the sequels, pre-google, when I was also getting them from my local library. I think it’s time for a re-read!
They were the books that started my love of reading as a child. ❤
The series is my absolute favourite! Redemption for Brian Jacques!
"We do a post mortem on the argument." - Leena 😂
What a nice video. I love how genuine and unscripted it feels, you seem like a great couple ❤
I am glad to hear that Craig is going to upload more
This was such an interesting and comforting video to watch.
I really love that Craig felt comfortable talking about baldness. My dad lost all of his hair at 19 and it took him a very long time to come to terms with it. He would have really valued this conversation when he was a young man.
love your take on crushes in a monogamous relationships
I always like the editing of your videos, nicely comedic and vaguely cozy, good job Craig!
You are such a laid back couple, relationshipwise. I'm loving it!
Also, knitting is captivating, please keep doing it with more chatty videos 😊

I agree with Leena, the Sound of Music is more than just a movie.
Craig, you look gorgeous bald! I may be a bit biased though... my husband is bald with a beard, lol
I agree!
Also, I suspect the mop top just gave you a twelve year old vibe. 😂
You both just have such a comforting energy about you - like one of those couples who just complement each other in the best possible way ❤
Craig is such a sweetheart. ☺️❤️
Your relationship has many common points with mine and this video makes me so giggly too ahah

I am a Redwall STAN. Thank you, Craig; impeccable book taste.
Omg this was just what I needed right now. Thank you so much for this!!!
I'd LOVE to hear you talk more about how you cope with PCOS!
Ah! So happy to see another Submarine enjoyer in the wild!
It's still so good all these years later!
Please 🙏 more long videos with the two of you. Gorgeous couple! 💙
Loveeeeed the redwall books, never hear anyone talking about them, have also read a very random collection thanks to the local library
I loooove how giggly you are in this video it's so fun to see your dynamic with Craig!!
On the vegetarian/vegan thing. Hilariously my partner has had a similar trajectory to Craig in that I am a vegetarian who has developed some kind of dairy sensitivity over the course of our relationship and so he eats vegetarian at home and basically only eats meat sometimes when we go out.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Sound of Music are my two favourite films! I feel like I have found the right corner of the internet
The two of you together are just delightful
First, and most important, I love the once-in-a-decade Craig appearance. Second, I physically couldn’t watch this because the complete disregards Craig has for physics when holding his tea in the beginning 😂
I have been known to spill tea in the past for this exact reason. My apologies!
I love this video! The vibe is so warm and cozy. I’m so happy to see you both so comfortable around each other. And to see and man who is such a walking green flag restores my hope in humanity a bit.
I’d entirely forgotten reading Brian Jacques books until you mentioned!!! I need to reread 😂
That was very cute guys! I will never understand the need of people to know what's going n on other people's lives (that you don't know personally), but I'm up to hearing new things haha
I'm commenting on this question though... :
"How do you keep things interesting?"
that's like... if things aren't interesting why force it? just find a person that fits better how you feel at this point in your life...
This was lovely and very interesting! Figuring out how to be in a relationship but still be your own person can be difficult, so the fact that you've both managed to make a business relationship work on top of that is commendable.

you two are so comforting to watch❤ always lift my spirits

Lovely video, super thought provoking. It is so cool to see how you bounce off each other and bring each other up
As someone who grew up with self employed parents, I'd like to say that your work relationship sounds very healthy. I'm glad to hear that you did the paperwork and all. My parents never did. And, obviously, we all have a crush on Craig now.
The "motherhood" book now I HAVE TO READ IT LEENA!! because I read: our wives under the sea and I am sooooo in love with that book😭😭😭😭😭
Gotta admit that in my friendgroup we had a guy that had receding hair and we were making jokes about it constantly... I feel bad now :(

Eternal Sunshine is ABSOLUTELY one of my favorite relationship recovery movies!!!!!
I love Sound of Music. My first year of teaching was terrible and I came home each night and watched an hour of Sound of Music.

On crushes, all of mine are fictional! Not sure what my spouse thinks yet though. Good food for thought in a long term relationship.
Really loved this video!
Woah wait I've followed u for years and didnt realise Craig had his own chanel? He needs to shout it out more!
And he's from Crawley? Goodness we're getting all the lore. Horshamite here, got me excited

Loved this! And the part about the gender thing was very nice!!
I am fascinated by Craig's perfect vampire hands and I ventured to the comments to get that off my chest so I can scroll back up to concentrate. edit: spelling was off due to my fascination and lack of concentration

@@CraigSimmonds uh oh. Be warned, I eat up to 5 cloves of garlic a day
Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind is my favourite film and submarine is in my top 5!!!
Loved this!!!
I live in regional Australia but you've totally sold me on the Midlands 😅
I teach the industrial revolution and one of the sections we cover is 'Canal Mania'. There are songs. I feel like Craig might enjoy a canal song.
I’m from the north of Derbyshire which is very different from the city of Derby itself. We, (almost everyone I know) agree we feel much more northern than Midlanders.
Craig content! Yay!
😎😎😎
I'm glad to hear that Craig is not the thought police 😄
