    I would like to thank everyone at 4yourCNA for providing the free videos and supple kits to pass my CNA exam here in MI. I bought a small practice kit and a dvd from 4yourCNA your states skills were almost the same as MI's a little different,but not to different because I just passed my CNA exam here in Michigan on Monday March 16,2015. Before I ordered 4yourCNA small practice kit and a dvd I did make sure that Florida's skills were close to MI's and they were close so I ordered a kit and the dvd. I went to a CNA refresher course that my CNA training school offered once a month to their CNA grads and I also made almost 300flash cards to study for my CNA exam. My family let me practice my skills on them. I studied hard for 2 months for my CNA exam and I passed! THANK YOU 4yourCNA I will never forget that 4yourCNA helped me pass and for all my hard work and my family's support Thank you again and god bless. Good luck to everyone that is trying to pass their CNA exam and you can do it. I believe in you guys.

    For the state exam, remember that you need to check the patient's i.d. badge after introducing yourself.

  • @4yourcna
    @4yourcna  11 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    No. For the exam, you can just say that you would allow the foot to soak, the evaluator will not want you to stand around for 5 minutes (remember, you only have an average of 35 minutes to perform all 3 skills and you don't want to waste any of those minutes!) so just verbally acknowledging that you would soak is fine! Or, put the foot in the basin while you set up your towel, get yourself in position and put on your gloves, that is sufficient for the exam as well. Good luck!

    If you look at your checklist provided by the state testing site, you will see that gloves ARE NOT a required smart one! Unless the skin is not intact, then you are dealing with a foot! In the REAL world- wear gloves! This is the state test. ANY SKILL that REQUIRES gloves CLEARLY states it in the skills checkpoints! Also, YES we ARE allowed to get on the ground at ANY time we choose. This is NOT a fail on the exam. Great job Patty!

    @4yourcna  11 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    For the exam, the care plan will instruct you to wash one foot. This saves time during the exam (the state figures if you can wash one foot correctly, you could do the other one the same way!). Good luck on your exam!

    No. You can touch clean equipment with your clean hands and dirty equipment with your dirty hands. But after you have cleaned your equipment (but while your hands are still dirty), you need to have a barrier between your dirty hands and your clean equipment so that you do not contaminate the now-clean basin with your still-dirty hands. Thanks for your question!

    Yes, you may kneel on the floor. Your uniform is not considered clean after you begin work because you lean against beds, privacy curtains, etc., so it is acceptable to kneel on the floor. Trying to squat for the amount of time required during this skill can cause you to lose your balance or have difficulty standing. Good luck!

    Most people cannot squat for that amount of time without experiencing fatigue of the leg muscles that may make it difficult to stand. Using a chair is an acceptable option, however, the CNA is now bending way over to wash and rinse the foot in the basin. The patient may not have the ability to lift the leg high enough to rest on the CNAs lap for drying. Kneeling on the floor is acceptable since your uniform is not considered clean because it touches hospital beds, curtains, patients, etc.

    Rinsing outside of the basin will get water all over the floor! You should put the foot back in the basin to rinse. Trying to hold it above the basin while rinsing may put undue strain on the patient's leg and lower back (especially with weak patients that won't be able to hold their foot up that long), so placing it into the basin is best. This ensures all areas are rinsed adequately so that soap does not stay on the skin surface, drying the skin and creating cracks. Hope this helps!

    Yes, the Florida exam requires the foot to be placed back into the basin for rinsing. If the water is visibly soiled, take the time to replace the water prior to rinsing. It is vital to rinse thoroughly because soap left on the skin is very drying and the skin of the feet and legs is usually already dry (esp. in the elderly or those with circulation problems or diabetes). We are trying to prevent the skin from cracking. Thanks for the question and good luck!

    Thank you for pointing this out (this was an error during video editing) and it will be corrected. However, you do not NEED gloves on during this portion of the skill. You can touch the dirty equipment with your dirty hands, then set the basin down in the sink to disinfect it. Now, your basin is clean, but the hands are still dirty (regardless of whether you have gloves on or not because the gloves would be dirty) and you must use a barrier between your hands and the basin at that point. Thx

    While the skills each state may require the CNA to demonstrate may be different from state to state, the actual performance of those skills will be done according to general nursing best practices. These videos demonstrate proper nursing procedures for all skills demonstrated, including adherence to infection control, patient rights and safety protocol. While these skills are intended for Florida CNA students, others may find them useful as well. Thank you for your comment.

    You remain in the room while cleaning your equipment and disposing of linens, so having access to a call light to call you when you are already in the room is not necessary. It is acceptable to clean your environment before getting the patient settled. You must ensure that the patient has a call light, the curtain is open and the environment is clean before washing your hands and ending the skill (as demonstrated). This meets best nursing practice standards and is proper for the exam. Good luck!

    For the exam, you will not have to soak for any period of time. This is not a tested point. In a clinical setting, you will soak for the period of time indicated on the care plan, if a specific time is requested. 15-20 minutes will cause the water to become cold and uncomfortable, so that may not be recommended. Hope this helps!

  • @4yourcna
    @4yourcna  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    When washing, rinsing or drying between the toes, you should carefully blot with one section of the washcloth, avoiding a seesaw motion. Changing direction (seesawing back and forth) can tear teh sensitive skin between the toes, especially in older patients, whose skin is already very thin and sensitive. Just carefully blot (one direction only) during this skill. Thank you for your question! Please subscribe to our channel to be notified of additional videos as they are posted!

    According to California testing standards, the foot must be placed in the basin on a barrier to soak. This will not be performed with the patient in bed. This may be your facility policy, but it does not reflect current testing standards. Not all patients will be dementia patients. Your facility my have produced a policy to accommodate this particular patient group, but it is not the way it will be presented for the exam or performed in other settings. Thanks for the comment! Good luck!

  • @4yourcna

    CNAs are not permitted to clean under or file patient's toenails because of the risk of injury to patients. Patients with poor circulation, diabetes and other health conditions will have a delayed healing time for injuries of the feet and legs. Therefore, CNAs cannot do anything that could potential injure these areas. You are to wash, rinse, dry and lotion only. The reason for this skill is to observe the skin of the feet and report any abnormalities. Thanks.

      Yoh will computer your facility's guidelines. Some facilities may require additional disinfection techniques based on the conditions of the specific patient. Sprays should not be used in close proximity to patients with respiratory conditions, but some patients with immune system disorders may need additional protections. Always abide by the care plan and your facility's policies and procedures. Thanks.
