    Are the magnets powerful enough to use on rubber coated dumbbells?

    Good job, I did this yesterday, finishing painting today. Foir 2.5lb plated, then doing 4 5lb plates this weekend. Cost spent about 60.00...

    Great video/idea, I got suckered by platem*tes awhile ago, cost probably 60 for pair of 2 1/2’s this cost probably 15 or less with extra magnets and bed liner to do more, bought fractional set and did this to them, work great.

    Taking a crack at a set. already had the magnets and the supplies at walmart were a total of $35 after taxes/etc. weights were $5. I'm adding some crazy strong hard drive magnets in the middle of mine. I have 4 of the 1.25 lb plate mates, so I already am sold on the concept. But, their offerings are expensive. It'll be interesting to see if I feel that the DIY fills me with enough confidence to use them without them dropping on my head. Would be a sad way to depart this world. Thanks for sharing your design. Saved me some expensive trial and error that would have happened. I like your approach better than what I would have come up with. If I like them, the next set will be $10. I will probably make a bunch of them if they turn out good.

      Awesome! I've been using mine for a few weeks now, so I have a few pointers. If you have lots of magnets, I think I would go with double the magnets just to be safe. Also, if you are doing any kind of overhead movements that the dumbbells could hit together, be careful as the magnets pull each other apart and you end up with a 2.5lb plate on your head.....

    I use truck bed liner too on plates,rocker panel paint works great also and is cheaper.I have even used both those on concrete plates I made and it works pretty well,on steel plates it's indestructible.great idea overall though bro,definitely earned a like on this one.

    Can you stick a magnetic plate....to a magnetic plate??? As in, I have 90 pound powerblocks and I want to go up to 95 and 100. If I made 8 of these 2.5 pounders, I would pop 1 on each side to make 95 and 2 on each side to make 100.

    • @BarbellSanctuary
      @BarbellSanctuary  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      NOPE. Don't double stack. Tried it and got a few plates to the head. Can't go more than one. The extra weight doesn't hold.

      Ok, fine. But what about adding magnets to a 5 pound plate?? I'll be putting on the side of a powerblock which has a large flat surface, so I can add many / large magnets. I'm gonna try it and report back. Don't try and stop me!!!!

    • @scottstarek4996
      @scottstarek4996 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Huge success. No bed liner yet, but with just 6 magnets (very thin, 1.25" diameter), the 5 pound plate is on there for life. I shook it like a wild monkey for 10 seconds and it didn't move a hair. Again, this is on the side of a powerblock, so lots of surface space to play with. (And a 5 pound standard weight plate with an entirely flat face)

    Could you just stick the magnets on the iron master tightening screw and then you won't have to do each separate plate?

    • @michaelkulman7095
      @michaelkulman7095 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question, but, would it mess up the iron master?
      Would you glue magnets on yours and spray bedliner over them?
      Most would rather modify some plates...

  • @Keranu
    @Keranu 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This is unbelievably ingenious. I have never seen magnetic plates anywhere before and now it leaves me wondering why it's not more prevalent?

    • @BarbellSanctuary
      @BarbellSanctuary  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Dudlis1 or.... if you cover the whole face of the plate with all 80 magnets it might work. but at that point you'd be adding more weight to the plate, and the price starts to go up.... wouldn't be worth it at that point.
