Asmr and true crime 😭 as you said while they were doing the case someone from the North East sent a voice recording and letters to the police to which they tracked it to where I live (Sunderland, and actually two minutes down the road from my house castletown) my grandfather was actually questioned as were many other men from Sunderland
I’m from West Yorkshire, East Leeds and I’ve walked on the field before where Sutcliffe left a dead woman’s body. I remember my mum telling me that the 70s were a scary time for young girls and women in Leeds, Bradford and Beeston. My mum was born in 1970. She in the 1970s remembers that a lot of her neighbours nailed their windows shut and put wooden planks on the doors so no serial killers could walked into their homes.
I remember the Yorkshire Ripper case and murders very well. I would have been 14 in 1980 when he was finally caught. I can well remember the fear that was created by this case on a country wide scale. Especially when the fake phone call was made claiming to be “Jack”. The police released a number you could ring to see if you could recognise the voice of the alleged perpetrator of these vile crimes. Because they believed he was possibly from around Newcastle area. People had a sense of he was travelling around the Yorkshire area. Then it was possible that he could strike anywhere. It drew a hell of a lot of media attention and I can remember toward the end of Sutcliffes reign of terror, that the Ripper was a constant source of news in the country. One thing my friends and I do remember is that when he was finally caught. A friend of ours, his father could have been the spitting image of him. With the dark shaggy curly hair and moustache. It was believed that the look was styled on 70’s icon David Essex. A lot of celebrities had that similar sort of look. It went out of fashion quick that’s for sure. I would imagine any description the police may have had at the time would have had probably 3 in 10 men looking alike at that time. Hard to narrow the field I would have thought.
I think the Jeremy bamber case is very interesting and until recently (itv series about it) relatively unknown compared to some of the larger U.K. cases. Very unusual and not necessarily entirely clear what the outcome was!

Correction Yorkshire is the north east of England, Lancashire is noth west
