Hi, I love watching videos on a custom that is so popular in my country, Argentina (and in other countries too), but the video has errors and is incomplete. 1 - Is Mate, not Maté. 2 - Only containers made from gourd or wood should be cured. If the container is made of metal, porcelain or glass, is not necessary. 3 - The mate is accompanied with sweet things like cookies, cakes, etc.. Not salty things! (with the exception of some types of bizcochitos and croissant and other things made with lard) 4 - It is very common to put additives to the mate. Sugar is used to sweeten. But also other things are used for variety of flavors such as coffee, lemon or orange peel, mint, etc. 5 - Popularly hot water is used on the infusion but there are other alternatives that are used less frequently like hot milk. You can also use citric fruit juices or just cold water (this option is chosen during the summer mostly) and this cold version is called Tereré. 6 - The mate is mostly drink during breakfast in the morning or afternoon snack, but in reality, many people drink this infusion at any time of the day. During work, in college, in parks, etc.

I just recently met someone from Argentina who was drinking Mate out of the gourd. She told me all about it and how it's prepared. I'm going to buy one today.
+Nana Syrian Oh I heard that in Syria you drink mate a lot but why?, do you have Yerba in your country or something like that? I mean... what's the story behind that?,
Maher Darwish Ohohoh and what brands do you have there? :P I'm addicted to "La Merced - Barbacua" it's like a smoked Yerba, is the best for bitter Mate.
Argentina is a vert interesting country. It's a combination of different cultures and countries. You can enjoy of a MATE while listening to a TANGO (typical music) or make a cake with dulce de leche (a delicious sweet thing). A very nice video, mate is a strange and special drink!
Here in southern Brazil we traditionally drink it too, but here it is called "chimarrão". I put the "bomba" or "bombilla" (in spanish) after putting water... Make things easier, i suppose. I normally add water, wait a little, so herb can absorb it, then i put the "bomba" or "bombilla", with the hole covered with my thumb (do it or the bombilla may clog, it will until you get some practice, i dont know why it happens).
I'm from Argentina and here you drink mate everyday with anything that you imagine, I know a lot of people who love to drink mate and eat pizza, sandwich and other stuff (sweet or salty), for example right now I'm drinking mate and eating an apple. And in summer time we usually drink terere, made with cold water or cold fruit juice, it's very refreshing and people who never drink mate before like it better
I traveled to Cordoba, Argentina and went south to Patagonia for 11 days mainly to attend my cousin's wedding. I had my first gourd of Mate 3 hours after landing in Buenos Aires, it was strong and earthy. I didn't like it very much. But then I had another later in the day while chatting to family outside. I drank 6 or 7 mates in a about 4 hours. I was hooked. Now I drink Mate and Green tea Matcha here in the USA instead of Coffee now.
No seamos boludos.
I'm always all kinds of excited to see these videos pop up in my feed. I adore the way you present each step and tool in the process, and it always makes me a little bit happier to learn something about preparing something delicious. So, thank you.
We have something similar in Vietnam. We use condense milk and ice instead. No chocolate. If we don't have condense milk then vanilla Ice cream work just as well. It's so yummy

Need to clarify about the temperature of the water - if you are to drink it @ 150° then DON'T heat the water to boiling (212°); you can heat the water to 180° but not much above that. Boiling water makes the esophagus vulnerable to damage, which could lead to cancer.
Also it ruins the flavour. Under no circumstance should the water be boiling. I dont know in fahrenheit, but in celsius its between 70° to 80°. Edit: also, its not necessary to pour a bit of cold water, some people do it, some others dont.
Vos sos argentina?
Great video. I must say a few things though. Mate is not written with an ortographic accent on the "e". To prepare Mate it is very important that water DOES NOT come out to a boil; instead, you want to remove the water from the heat just a minute before it'd start boiling. I know that's explained at the ending but in the beggining it says "bring a kettle to a boil" but once the water boiled, it is useless. Doesn't matter if it cools down afterwards. Love from Argentina and keep on drinking mate.
Mennonites(it's a cultural/religious population), in Canada, also drink yerba mate, but they drink it from a horn instead of a gourd. They "discovered" it when they went to South America in their attempt to settle there and work the land - but many returned to North America when they couldn't acclimate their crops to the climate and ended up bringing this beverage with them. So you can find it in some of the larger cities with a large Mennonite population or in stores that they run.
the reason why it has an apostrophe is cause thats how an english speaker would pronounce it (mate') if you put mate they will pronounce it diff. mate=dude ,guy etc.
Lerian Acosenossa 'cause the sound of the "e" in spanish is more like an "a" in english, but the original word is "mate", the pronunciation would be probably near to "mat-a".

My everyday drink hands down.
BTW After you put cold and hot water in the yerba mate you do not put the bombilla yet as the yerba has to swollen with water. After that (5 minutes or so) you put the bombilla and start drinking.
I'm from Paraguay, and this is, like, the national drink there. The last time I drank it, I didn't like it. Of course, that was over 15 years ago, so maybe I should try it again XD
Make sure you dont use boiling water. Maybe it was too bitter last time you tried it. If you stay 160-180 F it will give a warm almost caramel flavor.
in Paraguay we drink it cold, with ice, and natural remedies, weeds or roots. Some crushed lemon placed in the jar with ice.
feeling this music so much.
Do you know the name of the song? I really like it
I jumped for joy on what you guys are making in the next video. I LOVE HORCHATA!!! I am from the east coat so I didnt get expose to the yummy goodness untill I met my husband and moved to El Paso with him. Ever since I had my fist horchata I was in love! There is a coffee shop over there who makes a slushie version and I just love it! I can't wait!
This is how we drink mate in Lebanon too!
Yep!
@Iubire Romaneasca just mate and water in my household. Sometime we brew it with rosemary to add a little touch. In some homes they add milk and sugar but the standard is just mate and water.
I live in Lebanon and this drink can be found in almost every house here! I'm not a big fan of it (prefer green tea) but its good :D
I just recently met someone from Argentina who was drinking Mate out of the gourd. She told me all about it and how it's prepared. I'm going to buy one today.
I from Syria and I drink Mate ❤
lenguaje experto Only Syrian Arabs
@@555here4 and some Lebanese as well
lenguaje experto Syria is the largest importer of Maté. People in Lebanon drink it as well
Lenguaje its very famous in Lebanon and Syria and to some degree in Palestine as well
I can never get enough of your videos.
Esteban Ariel 👏👏👏👏
naaah, qué experto cebador de mates. VAMO CAPO!
Literal dicen que tienes que echar agua caliente no hirviendo
The music sits perfectly with the video. Really enjoyed the recipe.

+Nana Syrian Oh I heard that in Syria you drink mate a lot but why?, do you have Yerba in your country or something like that? I mean... what's the story behind that?,
+Agustin Repetto no, but we import from Argentina 😀

It taste better when you add lime or lemon as well
True. Although I always boil the water and just add some cold water to it on the thermos or kettle before using it.
Scorpion love this video.
Argentina is a vert interesting country. It's a combination of different cultures and countries. You can enjoy of a MATE while listening to a TANGO (typical music) or make a cake with dulce de leche (a delicious sweet thing). A very nice video, mate is a strange and special drink!
I was given a Yerba Mate kit by a family friend and I love it - turns out I’ve been making it totally wrong though! Thanks for the great video!👏
haha😆😅
Here in southern Brazil we traditionally drink it too, but here it is called "chimarrão". I put the "bomba" or "bombilla" (in spanish) after putting water... Make things easier, i suppose. I normally add water, wait a little, so herb can absorb it, then i put the "bomba" or "bombilla", with the hole covered with my thumb (do it or the bombilla may clog, it will until you get some practice, i dont know why it happens).
Suarez and Messi brought me here🤣
Yess 😂
I'm from Argentina and here you drink mate everyday with anything that you imagine, I know a lot of people who love to drink mate and eat pizza, sandwich and other stuff (sweet or salty), for example right now I'm drinking mate and eating an apple. And in summer time we usually drink terere, made with cold water or cold fruit juice, it's very refreshing and people who never drink mate before like it better
not good to drink it in the afternoon though
why other videos of "thirsty for" now are "private"?
I traveled to Cordoba, Argentina and went south to Patagonia for 11 days mainly to attend my cousin's wedding. I had my first gourd of Mate 3 hours after landing in Buenos Aires, it was strong and earthy. I didn't like it very much. But then I had another later in the day while chatting to family outside. I drank 6 or 7 mates in a about 4 hours. I was hooked. Now I drink Mate and Green tea Matcha here in the USA instead of Coffee now.
i am syrian and in my country matte is so popular
I learned about matte from a Syrian friend in Lebanon. That was seven years ago. I still visit him and we'd drink matte and smoke hookah.
Matte is lack of shine. It's called mate.
I'll probably never try these recipes because the ingredients are often hard to find but I really enjoy just watching for the editing and fab music
I could seriously just put this play list on just for the music
drwierd lmao
What's the song name?? I also love the song
Omg!!! My neighbors are syrian and this is exactly how we drink mate. Infact we use the same straw. Its awesome you guys try it out
No seamos boludos.
El peluca sabeeeeee
de Paraguay tb es man

Made in Argentina

Made in Argentina, and consumed heavily in Syria lol

There is actually a type of soda here in Berlin (Germany) called Club Mate made from that plant - it is incredible!
Anyone watching and thinking about Covid?
We have something similar in Vietnam. We use condense milk and ice instead. No chocolate. If we don't have condense milk then vanilla Ice cream work just as well. It's so yummy
MADE IN PARAGUAY 🔴⚪🔵
Great video, not only good information about how to drink yerba mate, but also nicely made :)
Anyone else here from Mozart in the Jungle?
nope, the only one
Hahaha yeess
For those looking for the song played in the video its called "Candombeando" by Alberto Castillo! Like please so people can see this who are looking for it!
mate* yerba mate* not maté, and the name of the drink is mate, pronounced "máte".
I feel so connected to world and earth when I drink it 🙂
i found this scrolling through serenity herbal and now i order it every month we all love this tnx for thr video
where can I get a "Bombilla" ??? I live in Los Angeles, there's got to be a small argentinean community there. LOL

+Daniel Schaper look for it, u'll find one, i'm shure :p
Rincon Argentino in Glendale
Amazon for everything u don’t find locally!
catalinas market near LACC
I start mine off with grapefruit juice instead of cool water. I love the taste.
So Happy Thirsty For is back. I thought they'd quit....
Some of this is inaccurate...
Justina Gentili 99% of this is not accurate...
Vos sos argentina?
LOVE yerba mate!! Thanks for sharing!
messi !!
It hurts my argentinean heart in so many ways to see this video because they did just about everything really really wrong
Can you link a video where it’s done properly?
Mennonites(it's a cultural/religious population), in Canada, also drink yerba mate, but they drink it from a horn instead of a gourd.
They "discovered" it when they went to South America in their attempt to settle there and work the land - but many returned to North America when they couldn't acclimate their crops to the climate and ended up bringing this beverage with them.
So you can find it in some of the larger cities with a large Mennonite population or in stores that they run.
It's not maté! it's mate! and the water has not to boil!
the reason why it has an apostrophe is cause thats how an english speaker would pronounce it (mate') if you put mate they will pronounce it diff. mate=dude ,guy etc.
kayley glaze well then it could be "máte" :)
i wonder why not "matea" instead, in spanish it confuses with the words to kill and opaque so...
Lerian Acosenossa 'cause the sound of the "e" in spanish is more like an "a" in english, but the original word is "mate", the pronunciation would be probably near to "mat-a".
TheHoneyMay No... It isn't pronounced mata. It's like Ma - Te. Think of the words 'Te amo'. The 'te' is how mate sounds at the end.
Tastemade, i love this video
Probá y me contás.
Amazing. Looks great. Im making this. The fun part will be the shopping for all the unique ingredients. Thanks!
what? MatÉ ???? is MATE
never boil the water please. The water must be from158 to 176 fahrenheit (70-80 celsius)
Have a good drink (?
If you're in the UK, you should try Native Leaf Original Yerba Mate. It is by far the best Yerba Mate I've had.
I'm from argentina and that is not how you make mate
+Lisarihable then how?
+Daniel Schaper you dont boil the water, you dont shake the mate, just pour the yerba and some sugar in there and add hot water
+Lisarihable Well im from Uruguay (bo) and that is how we drink mate, with all that process before you start drinking, and almost no one puts sugar in it and we use termos to pour the water and keep it hot
