Here in England, the winter season leaves the country dark at 4 O'clock. On my cycle back from College I'd put on this song and watch everything rapidly settled from dusk to darkness. I honestly can't put to words the emotion that would ache in my stomach. Music is such a gift and it's lovely to see so many people here appreciating it :) I wish you all the best.
I made this back in 2012 when my son still lived with us (he is in the frame at about 15:17). My son moved out it seems like a year ago to make his way in the world, watching this again today I saw him come into frame and I was overcome with emotion. I miss having him around.
I’m a little late in replying, it’s been a crazy year. Since I’ve discovered this song I’ve been married, had and lost our first child. This song is one of the few to help me pause and take stock of things. The video complements the song very well and I hope it stays up for years to come. My sincere thanks, for what it’s worth
@@oneprizeonegoal Thank you for your sincerity. I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your child. I can't begin to imagine what that has done to you and your family. I'm thankful my video has helped you in some way.
This song holds you suspended in a cloud of melancholy and beauty. Like sitting in a sunny field and reminiscing about old days long passed, school friends, lovers, family passed on. But not in a sad way, more of an accepting and appreciative manner. True melancholy.
I cannot describe the emotions that this music conjures. They are painfully deep and unique and cannot be compared with anything. I love the music, it is beautiful and makes me feel like I have discovered my soul's true sound.
Absolutely breathtaking. It's funny, I can barely handle a 3 minute pop song, but I'll listen to a song that's nearly 25 minutes long like it's only a few seconds, and I'll hit replay. It's a shame that more people don't open up to this side of music, it's so beautiful, deep, and makes you question everything you know, all the while lacking a single utterance of a word. The strings at the end are breathtaking too. Mogwai at their best. More post-rock needs to be like this.
I come back to this every time I need to feel understood and humbled and heard. Thank you for this, Mogwai. I have been a fan for many, many years. This is necessary music. You lads make necessary music. Thank you so much.
And there I was, under the rain with my blue jacket and my hood on my head looking at the cracks of what once was a big avenue, wondering if humanity in any way would have had a chance to be spared from the destiny it had forged by his own hand, if there was a chance to avoid this view to avoid the memories and the nostalgia of a forgotten future.
this song breaks me :( usually I cannot even listen to it but it helps me on my darkest moments, just like now... but what a composition, truly beautiful, epic, complex, just wow
Im listening to this, writing my horror screenplay, and it's creeping me out. Big time. This music has a deep, spiritual feeling that is bringing the inner writer out in me. It's wonderful.
It's been a year since I last listened to this, I'm back to a desolate present heading to a forgotten future from my bleak past. Depressing but beautiful.
The dark cityscape, the shots of nature, and the sullen music bring on such beautiful melancholy. It makes me nostalgic not only for the past, but for what could have been. Thank you for such a wonderful video.
It is like even without knowing me personally, they understood my mind and depression, creating a soundtrack for it. I’ve been listening to a lot of bands including Mogwai for years... nearly all of them soothed my mind with their songs during some specific time. But this song, even among so many important songs to me, is really special. It’s like therapy. But I don’t feel ashamed at all. Only calm.
It just makes one wonder....We have a forgotten past as well as a bleak future. How depressing our lives seem, a mere 70+ years of life....all I feel is melancholy.
I'm high... But that's what has made me experience life on a totally different level. Another circle of sensation. This song sounds amazing while sober. But right now, its rhythm has intensified. I can feel the emotion on the keyboard. Amazing.
I can listen to this song and watch video over and over. I really don't know why. Yea, I love Mogwai, but... there is something special in your clip. Just... thank you, yes. Just thank you.
I've been a fan of these guys since I saw them at the one and only "Livid Festival" in Sydney about ten years ago, they blew my mind. This is a gem thanks for uploading it.
Lets start a movement on TH-cam. All top comments, no matter how satisfying a response to a troll it may be, should be positive reviews about the video. This video is great, to me and other at least. Interpretations only develop from point of view or else I would indulge further into how this song makes me slow down, which to me is amazing because I over analyze everything. I sincerely enjoyed this music, there. I hope this helps the world overcome hate.
Wonderful music.Calms me down ,makes me think clearly;a lot.Inspirational ,as well. But also it makes me feel sad and nostalgic. But this is why real music is made up for.To tangle your mind.To awake your deepest feelings. To make you fell like never before. To feel like you are not a human being.
Why not just download this then import the MP3 to your Spotify playlist? Called 'local files' if you need to search how to do it. Might be hiding under alternate title, 'The Singing Mountain'.
12:41 Ok, but seriously. I am watching this video over and over again and whenever it reaches this part, something aches real deep down (especially when that picture of that log and the lake shows up). Regret maybe? Anyways, this video continues to make me feel something pretty unique. You did a great job with these accompanying images. Seriously, total props to you sir!
I think the video fits really well to the music. I like it, specially the part in the city, it is beautiful at night. I also like the switching between city and nature... :3 The music is awesome too~
you think darkness is your ally? but you merely adopted the dark. i was born in it, molded by it. i didn't see the light till i was already a man, and by then it was nothing to me but blinding.
J'aime
Mogwai is amazing, it's the heart of Post-Rock ! You should imo check "There's A Time For Everything, Mine Is Over - Paradigm Shift ". That's really amazing music ^^. Long live Post-Rock :D
That humans can do something as great as this makes me still believe in the future of the human race, thank you guys! You made my world a better place for 22 minutes and 49 seconds. Thank you uploader too, i'll buy all the albums soon i swear :)
Whoa , I stumbled on this cause I love Mogwai , but then I was taken back a bit when I was looking at pictures near the area I grew up . Im from Tacoma
Mogwai is really amazing ! Long songs with a special meaning. It's like what a swiss artist named "Michael Ghelfi" made, with his song "There's A Time For Everything, Mine Is Over". You should really check him, he's a talented post-rock composer.

I like that. Likewise!
I hope you can find solace in the darkness.
Thank you.

this song touches me deeply but i can never explain exactly why
oneprizeonegoal because it's both liquid and solid
oneprizeonegoal same happens to me
+Mr E You mean it's beyond its critical point?
Almost like the artist and everyone it targets is its own people
who else still listens to this? It's one of my favorite songs...so sad and so beautiful.
Still
Still :)

Good music is timeless
Anyone else listening in 2017? This is a beautiful song that deserves to live forever, and I hope I'm not the only one who thinks so.
The end of 2020...still listening, and creator still reading comments. Love to see it!

Mogwai have some amazing songs... this is right up there.
The kind of music that's good for listening to while doing ... well, anything.
I could name a thousand feelings to go with this song. Several long nights and early mornings.

one day I will travel through America. When I do, I will be ending my trip at point defiance. Because of this video.

I was expecting a 4 minute song, and I love that it keeps going and going!
It just makes one wonder....We have a forgotten past as well as a bleak future. How depressing our lives seem, a mere 70+ years of life....all I feel is melancholy.
Cascadians up in here! Down in Oly myself. Lived in Tacoma for years, only went to PD a few times though, nice woods.
On my Christmas list - time to pay back for all the wonder of listening to Mogwai
I'll love this kind of music. Calm and emotional. It pierces through the soul. it inspires. Damn, ive never felt like this before. I love life.
This song is from the album "Hardcore will never die but you will".
Not just that, but the limited version of that album.
CaptainMorggin Thank you.
This moment is beautiful
Thank you for the beautiful music

Happy Valentines...three years later. You're not the only one who's alone, if you are.
You made my day 😆
Beautiful, amazing. I sort of wanted to cry and was about to.
It's more than music, it's life, it's nature! This is definition of tranquility :)
Listened to this as I looked back at this year and look ahead to an uncertain future.
and then you would have that godly post-listening mood and feel great for half an hour just thinking about the album
you dont even need drugs for this to be honest this just sounds...amazing Mogwai never lets me down.
Reflecting on life...
-.-
I found peace in this music.
It may sound hard, but stop listening ti Mogwai for, like 6 months or so, when you listen it back you feel like coming back home after a long trip.
If i have my way, this will stay till the stars burn out.
this sir, was absolutely beautiful. you actually made me tear up reading this.
I cant find this on spotify and its driving me crazy. I have a playlist it'd be perfect for. Words cant describe how much i love this song.

I saw them live when they opened for The Flaming Lips in Maryland about 4 years ago... they were awesome. Carry on.

It's such a beautiful song, it's a wonderful attention to make up a video for it, however simple the clip may be. = )
Such a realistic song.

I knew this was filmed in my area, and then I saw the park - Vashon / Tacoma / Port Orchard area?
Me too ... like almost instantly knew where on earth this was . Pretty cool seeing how all I did was click a Mogwai video

If anyone has the video (I think there was one) that went along with the actual art installation it goes with, that would be great to see.
