This engine is fitted to a wide range of vehicles inc Peugeot and the Volvo v40

@@aaanton11 No problem. I looked on Amazon and eBay, do you know of a quality primer pump? I know a lot of these are cheap rubbish, but it's difficult to tell the difference.

Many many thanks for uploading this! Following your instructions, I was able to successfully replace and prime the diesel filter on my 2012 Mondeo mk4 1.6L TDCi (BA7, engine type T1BB) with zero problems starting and driving the car afterwards.
In my particular scenario, the metal filter housing has a plastic notchy piece fitted on its bottom, and the piece from the old filter was stuck in the mounting "cup" when I took the filter out. So, for anyone with a matching filter type reading this, make sure you get the old piece out of there before attempting to insert the new filter. Also, the new filter came with an o-ring for the drain plug which I assume they intend for us to replace as well (although the old one appeared to be in perfect shape in my case). The new o-ring was a tight fit, but with a bit of fiddling I managed to slip it on by hand. Otherwise same procedure as with the Focus featured in this video.

Superb video, I used this today to change my fuel filter. The amount of black gunk that came out was unreal. One little extra tip, the hose at the back has 2 clips, I found they needed to be removed entirely to get the hose off. I also bought a length of 8mm fuel hose and a priming pump from local car spares shop. Only 17 quid. Did the job perfectly.

Fantastic took me ages to find an excellent tutorial like this. Now I can do my own and know it's done. Had it done recently by a Ford dealer and couldn't help notice how dusty the unit still was. Must have been an exceptional mechanic not to spill any diesel, so obviously, they did not have to clean housing. Or am I just distrustful and rightly so. Keep up the excellent tutorials. Ken Dublin

If it helps anyone I really don't like those pump with a rubber ball things, mine needs to be thrown over a hedge .But I used the electric oil draining pump sold by amazon , lidl ali express etc. Just put the entry tube into the can of diesel the outlet fitted onto the filter inlet perfectly and pump it through... it pressured the system like a dream, And you have an oil draining pump as well!!

Thank you so much. This video was very helpful. A couple of additional comments. For the primer pump, a inner diameter of 8 mm is fine. Please note that most of the hoses that are delivered do not measure 8 mm, but less. And then it won't fit.
1 liter of diesel will be sufficient to carry out this job.
Please note that probably the little rubber ring that was connected to the bottom side of the old filter, could get stuck in the metal housing. Then you'll need to get it out by using some tool.

Thanks for the article Aanton..interestingly the little thing that twists on top of filter housing is a water drain...u turn it clockwuse and it drains any water in the bottom of the filter out..but di it quickly though or it will drain the filter fully and it will have to be bled..however the 3 ..torx screws...size 15...my tool wouldnt shift them..chewed the stars up trying...so i drilled them and used an easy out... put new torx screws in...theyre same size but T25...the Ford ones are very soft metal....make sure no swarf in the filter head though...i reckon its an indication that Ford dont want anyone other than the main dealer to do the job...the new screws i used were from a Rover 75 fan unit...very hard better quality metal..thanks again AAnton...Bob...Paignton.....

I always have a primer pump and jam jar which I keep in the spare wheel well of my Focus diesel just in case. I once had a very, very occasional problem with air leaking into the fuel lines and draining back into the tank overnight; it happened a couple of times a year. It turned out to be the top of the fuel filter wasn't properly screwed down. The slightly negative pressure in the fuel feed was, presumably, enough for atmospheric pressure to hold it down but sometimes it was not enough when stopped.
However, I do not use a jug of diesel, I just use the pump to pull it through from the fuel tank. The jam jar takes the overflow, and I can put the lid back on to transport it without spilling.

My mechanic changed fuel filter, and since then when the car is cold, I have problem with accelerating for 1 min, it cutting speed, like fuel stops comming in for 1s then come, and over again. After 1 min when car is warm, everything is great, also in idle alwyas runs great. No errors, injectors are repaired.

@@iamone2534 there could be some air trapped in the fuel line.
Have you tried doing a reset?
Turn the key in the ignition to the second position for 30 seconds.
Then turn it to the off position for 30 seconds.
Then remove the key, and start to car, it may take a few attempts.
      But this resets the system.
      Hope it helps.

I had this engine and filter in my old Mazda 3, I used to attach the primer pump to the outlet nozzle of the filter so it would suck the diesel from the tank to fill the filter and put the other end of the hose (clear) in an empty jug watching for bubbles, then reconnect. Have to say, my way is much less messy. Anyway, just a suggestion

That is also what I wanted to comment, I also do it this way and this does not require any diesel as it primes directly from the tank and also ensures that there's no air in the inlet pipe. @@aaanton11 This should be pinned as top comment as it saves from having to buy or siphon diesel from the tank.

just out of interest which pipe would you leave on the back or front pipe ?

    • @livinglifesideways7826
      @livinglifesideways7826 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

So is the only difference here that in the video, the primer pump was attached to the inlet and the other end sucking in diesel…whereas with the easier method, the primer pump should be attached to the outlet and the other end should just be pointed into a jug where the diesel would go and once it has no bubbles it’s been bled? So this means that when it’s sucking diesel from the tank by attaching to the outlet, it’s also filling up the filter at the same time? Does anything have to be connected to the inlet using this method? And can the inlet be connected up whilst the filter is being filled through the outlet or can that only be connected once the filter is full of diesel and free of air? I’m just looking to clarify things as I don’t want to get this wrong. Thanks

Hi Anton, I have just started watching your videos and they are very helpful and clear to watch I must say.
As you say it can be a whole load of trouble if there is air in the fuel system.
You have bleed the filter of air but if there was air else where in the system could it be bleed if the car cannot be started. If so where can air be bleed from and would this hand pump do or is there other tools required. many thanks for a reply.
    Keep up the good work.

You're going to get some air in the system because air gets in the pipes when you disconnect them and also some in the spouts. I've read that folk run the engine at 2000rpm to clear out any air after filter replacement. I'd replace the filter cap and then fill it with diesel through the inlet spout before I fit it back on the car.
I was going to get a Ford genuine filter but to me they look like they're made by Mann. I prefer Hengst or Blue Print to Mann.
A tip - disassemble/reassemble the filter away from the car. It'll be less messy that way and you won't accidentally drop the fasteners down in the engine.

I'm glad I watched your very informative video before I started on my 2013 1.6 Grand C-Max which has an identical layout to the focus (although a little harder to get at due to over hanging bodywork.) The instructions for priming were spot on. Something I may not have thought about. The pump I bought had hoses that fitted the fuel line exactly so I was able to pump fuel from the tank into the filter without using your jug method then on to force fuel around the system by reconnecting the filter outlet pipe and continued pumping till I could not hear any bubbles. Worked a treat. I'd like to post a video of my own about the problems that led to me having to change the filter. Have you any objections to me linking to your video as a good example of how to change the filter. Thanks very much.

Just did this for a Ford Focus Mk2 1.6 diesel 2009. I was a little concerned about priming it but it all went ok. I used the Draper 43986 Diesel Priming Pump from amazon. The connectors didn't fit but... I took the inlet connector off and attached it straight to the exit nozzle of the filter which was a tight fit. It didn't take many pumps of the bulb to pull the fuel through the filter directly from the tank. Connected back up and car started first time. Kept the revs high for a minute or two and all done!
