Today is my 40th birthday and the last day of 2024.
So I thought....what better way to start my birthday and end the year than a new adventure and new location.
Day started foggy, windy and slow. A few small trout and a micro snook, oh and a sail catfish.
Once the sun came out I moved to the shallows out of the wind to hopefully find some redfish warming up and feeding
I came across a huge school of black drum maybe 2 dozen good sized ones.
After they saw me it split into 3 separate groups. I started to slowly and quietly stalk these drum tell I figure out what they would eat. They where super picky and spooky. 2 feet of crystal clear water.
I did manage to hook into 2 of them, but they both popped off. Not sure if its hook issues, or I maybe had drag to tight and ripped the hook out.
Either way, ill take a good fight like those any day.
I couldn't have asked for a better start to my B day and to end this crazy year.
40 years old HA - I have under ware in the draw older then you , At a young 77 I enjoy following your adventures , Live inland 50 miles from coast , Areas you fish I frequent when I get too go , I still have a 22 ft ft boat that I seldom use , Fell in love with Kayak fishing , so simple and I cover same inshore areas as boats , Keep it going ,
@alanberner-h5j 😄 you might need to get some new underwear 🤔 😆jk.
I heard the 70s is the new 50s.🤔
Thanks for following my adventures and watching.☺️
I really do enjoy sharing what I learn from everyone. Hopefully, my adventures help others who don't live so close to the water, get a better idea of what's biting' and how the conditions are.
Ya, just something about kayak fishing... I love it. I think I will save up and get a boat one day... but I'll definitely be keeping my kayak.
Happy New Year.
Happy Belated Birthday 🎁.

@neilmaclarty8572 😄 Thanks... hopefully the next 40 years go a little slower..but it seems like the older you get, the faster the time goes.
Happy birthday brother man 🙏🙏🙏
@@TonyFromFlorida thanks 😊
Great job picking out a new spot. The water depth seemed to be perfect. Great way to enjoy your birthday you young fart. Cheers!
@FloridaEastCoastFishing Thanks.. it was a perfect way to spend my birthday. The water depth was perfect. Once the sun came out things really picked up.
good to see you exploring for greener grass. set hook on those black drum like you mean it, if you dont it wont penetrate and they will usually spit it/shake it
@rbuzaki thanks for the advice. I'm hoping to go back for revenge soon 😆
Happy Birthday! I gotta get out there soon!
@donmorin5611 thanks. Ya, you do. Make sure you wear layers....its going to get really cold over the next 2 weeks
good to see you on the water
Thanks! It was a great way to celebrate.
Happy birthday 🎂
@FishingFloridaWithKO thanks. 🙂
I had a similar hookset issue last weekend but with an NLBN 3” paddletail and jighead. I had 2 decent Snook and a keeper Trout managed to spit the hook right before I could land them. I was also fishing a Zman 3” paddletail on a TroutEye jig, doing a comparison. I didn’t lose any fish on the Zman. Not sure why the NLBN jig kept getting unbottoned, the hook point felt good and sharp but who knows
@alexanderren1097 oh a heartbreaker for sure. For me, I came to the conclusion after a few fellow anglers watched and gave me some input.... I had my drag too tight and was horsing them in.😏
Ripped the hook out. 😫
I have to remember when not fishing mangroves or structure...that I need to let them run a little and get tired.
The last few trips that I hooked into black drums, it always seems to happen no matter what I'm using. So, it makes sense.
Those heavy drums you really gotta play....or u rip that hook right out.
