    These fruits are extremely rare in Brazil, you can't find it on markets.
    They are subtropical trees, so they resist well to temperatures like -3 °C, the same applies to some varieties of pitangas

    I used to have issues with birds and squirrels eating my mangoes but it’s gotten better for me since I’ve started placing fake snakes around/on the trees 😂

      I'll keep an eye out for fake snakes, thanks!

    How old is your tree? How’s the growth rate? Mine very slow

    • @RealLifeFruitopia
      @RealLifeFruitopia  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Grumichama is approx 6 years old. I describe growth rate in the video. They take at least 3 to 4 years to fruit here.

    Does a grumichama tree grow fast or slow?

    Hey George which type of cherry do u recommend of the local variety

    • @RealLifeFruitopia
      @RealLifeFruitopia  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The older one is a Stella or Lapin. It gives a bumper crop every other year. Other is American Bing cherry. I prefer the tropical cherries.

    In Jamaica, we call it cherry, no acerola, or Barbados cherry. Just cherry, lol. Never ever seen the muntingia or what they call Jamaican cherry growing up in Jamaica lol, go figures

    • @RealLifeFruitopia
      @RealLifeFruitopia  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jamaican cherry is commonly known as Strawberry tree in Florida and Panama berry in Australia. Barbados cherry, West Indian cherry or Acerola is a tropical variant of the common European cherry, unrelated to Jamaican cherry.

    Jamaican Cherry normally refers to Muntingia calabura - so called Panama Berry that you have

    I've got a containerised Barbados cherry (Acerola). While not a 'conventional' cherry of the Prunus species familiar in temperate climes, it is regarded as a cherry. A tropical cherry known for its very high vitamin C content.

      I had similar protection when our cat was young and playful, as he aged the birds got on top of it.

    Hey man I don't blame ya, you plant fruit trees to enjoy the fruits. I'm having the same problem with squirrels.

    When it comes to fruits, people claim it for themselves with naming. When it comes to STI's, it's always someone elses eg. "french x or dutch x". lol

    Perhaps if you not trying yet to grow, rainforest plum from Brazil is like “cherry”
    Eugenia matosii which is pitanguinha, Eugenia minutifolia which is Rio grande cherry in different colour and bigger, dwarf grumichama Eugenia itaguahiensis, some of these are from south part of Brazil not true subtropical and Eugenia repanda which is South American

      @@RealLifeFruitopia I'm quite aware of that video, I was wondering more to see the tree with the trunk filled with fruit since it looks beautiful to see those trees fruiting.
