Hey George I'd just like to thank you for inspiring me to grow tropical fruit in Melbourne. I just harvested my first ever red dacca banana! Best banana I ever had!
Awesome (Bravo) theo 👌 Coincidentally I purchased a Japanese seedless dwarf mandarin ONLY yesturday morning, an imperial on Friday and I purchased an emperor the week before that 😉 A few more trips nursery for the main generic fruit trees to complete the foundation (so to speak),Then I'll be ready to purchase and focus on new tropical additions! Keep up the great work Theo George, INSPIRATIONAL 👌
@RealLifeFruitopia lmao, I got alot more than just mandarines (but I'm trying not to stray off topic) 😂 Doing symmetrical rows like a mini orchard (plus an open courtyard right in the centre and its entire square perimeter surrounded by dwarf fruit trees yet still half shaded by large mandarin tree and persimmon tree! I've almost finished 1st large citrus row (2 oranges trees, 3 lemon trees (the 4th next week), the 3 new mandarins plus dads full size mandarin tree. I've started new row of cherry's which starts and will arch over the far back pagola, and run along the walk way up to the gate (who wouldn't love to walk under an arching row of dwarf cherry trees in a suburban back yard, true)? Will start new row of Rock fruit next 👌
I haven't been anywhere except the beach. I've been chained to the garden hose since the beginning of November! I'll check it out tomorrow. Thanks for the heads up!
You are right about the Emperor. They do go dry when you leave them longer on the tree. My friend had one. I've got the Imperial. I would love to get a Murcott and a Japanese variety, too.
It's hard to go wrong with a Japanese seedless and Murcott. Imperial are too small, but fill the autumn gap. Emperor isn't my favourite, but it's 30 yo and still producing well.
My dad has a Mandarin tree which took a year off once & it normally gives us bucket loads of mandarins, one year it gave us less because he pruned it !
Melbourne Australia has such a weird climate. I wouldn't count it in temperate climate, but not even into subtropical. It has this weird combination of Europe's very mild oceanic winter, such as the UK or Netherlands for example, but has this very hot Europe's continental summer, such as Czech Republic where I live. It's really weird, but it is Australia, everything is special and unique.
You got that right! We have 3 months of depressing winter rain, 6 months of mild autumn/spring, and 3 months of dry summer heat. The BEST part of summer is we rarely need AC or fans to sleep at night whereas most of the country is like a sauna from November to March!
Happy New Year 2025. The golden mandarins looked so good, are they sweet and tangy .
Thanks, happy new year! They are indeed both sweet and tangy.
@RealLifeFruitopia Thank you. Wonderful. 😀

That’s awesome! I’ve never had success with red dacca but now I’m inspired by you!

Wow, three mandarin varieties in a row! You are going to be a mandarin expert!
You're on your way to a fantastic orchard.

Hi George! Are your Japanese seedless dwarves?
Yes, I believe so.
Do you cover for fruit fly?
Not covered. So far this summer my home made bait traps have worked well.
