possibly due to the nintendo eshop being a dump for actual trash titles. however there are really awesome games on there that do not have physical release or proper marketing.
i think its because it is more of a sequel to the zx series and many people aren't familiar with it ( seriously I've seen so many people saying that this is a spiritual sequel to X like what? )
This game series has become the most overrated "successor" to Mega Man thanks to the butthurt of anti-Mighty No. 9 anime fans that got butthurt over their prom night.
I think "Mighty Gunvolt" and especially "Mighty Gunvolt Burst" are also worth checking out. While Azure Striker 1 & 2 are more Mega Man X, the Mighty Gunvolt series is more true to the original NES games. IntiCreates is an incredible dev, I think the main issue with No 9 was it was totally mismanaged from the get go. And to be quite frank, the basic design idea of dashing through enemies just wasn't what Mega Man fans wanted. No amount of skilled development staff can save a bad idea.
Looking back. Gunvolt has grown way more popular and gets the attention it deserves while Mighty No. 9 has faded away. Also megaman is back so I'd say it allllllll worked out.
I wonder if they fixed the translation for the pc release. I remember hearing that half of the story content got cut in the english 3ds release. Not to mention some questionable translation issues.
+TheSpectator64 I've had that in my steam library forever, but I still haven't tried it out. I really want to because I hear it's a metroidvania, and I love those.
I feel that Mighty No. 9, while I do realize could have been managed better, is a big case of making a mountain out of a molehill. From the many people I've seen play the game from start to finish and put out reviews in an in-depth and analytical manner, they come to the conclusion that the game is really just alright. That's not to invalidate the people calling it terrible, but considering how many times I've seen many of those same people toss around phrases such as "delays," "millions of dollars," and "Inafune is an arrogant bad guy," as well as the examination of the development and Inafune saying, "I'm kind of loath to say this because it's going to sound like an excuse and I don't want to make any excuses. I own all the problems that came with this game and if you want to hurl insults at me, it's totally my fault. I'm the key creator. I will own that responsibility." I'm honestly inclined to feel that Inafune isn't 100% at fault here like some people seem to believe, especially when considering past games with poor business surrounding them, such as E.T., Superman 64, and Sonic '06. In any case, Azure Striker Gunvolt looks more worthwhile. I've also heard that recently released Mighty Gunvolt Burst is pretty cool. Great vid by the way. :)
I wasn't talking about the end product, so much as I was describing the development process. All the issues, drama and delays were the main focus. I've heard the same as you. People seem to thing it was just alright.
Its a good game but it gets a tad grindy if you expect to 100% ace it. Also the levels become pretty reptititive after a while, and the same expects you to replay them over and over.
Yep but you still need to replay those levels in case you missed what is required for the REAL ending and I really recommend to get it, otherwise playing the sequel doesn't make any sense.
Great review as always my friend! This definitely is something I will have to look into getting, but I do know there was a pack of both this and its sequel released on the NIntendo Switch, so I might hold off just a bit and pick it up when I get a Switch lol Speaking of, have you seen the team behind the MMZ series is working on a new exclusive for the Switch called Dragon: Marked for Death? It looks really promising!
Hey, Avalanche, hope all is well. Have you ever played "Hyperlight Drifter?" I think you'd like it - was inspired by "A Link to the Past" with an awesome SNES aesthetic
Avalanche Reviews No problem. I was waiting for a deal as well, but finally gave in and bought it for $20. In hindsight, I actually don't mind paying more so the developers get more support.
I'm glad this game got the love it needed by having a more professional localization than the one at launch along with the QoL improvements from the Switch's Striker Pack,
there is a version/related game called mighty gunvolt, that came out I believe at the same time as azure strike, the game is made in an 8bit style and you can play as beck from mighty Nº9!
Azure Striker Gunvolt really managed to make the Megaman Zero formula more accessible without removing the fun gameplay, but i also love how it's not afraid of being itself, Unlike MN9 where pretty much every single character was a redesign of another character from classic Megaman.
Gunvolt is his codename as the boss of QUILL says I think of his true name as Zero (a reference to megaman {minus the idea of how he has electricity powers})
you should because their is vehicles plus customizing them their is also you characters which run in individual parts. Its an easy 60 hour game for me just running around
Think i saw this game during this years summer GDQ. It looked cool, to bad it seems it never got a 3ds release in Europe. :/ Might give it a go when I have the time since your Trashed Classics haven't steered me wrong yet. :P
Azure Striker Gunvolt The Mighty No.9 of the Mega Man Zero games but actually did its Job well unlike the original spiritual successor its a damn shame that people that are thirsty for a new mega man game don't look at Games like this or 20XX another game inspired by the X Series but changes in its own way just because its doesn't have the name Hoping you do the Sequel too that's also good
I definitely wouldn't go that far. But Dead Cells is an extremely well made game. That said, Bloodstained is a 2.5d game, which I generally don't think too much of in terms of how the character looks when they move. But aside from that, the mechanics look like I'd enjoy it, the art style looks great imo, and it has the feel of Castlevania to me, which, lets face it, virtually all that backed it was probably looking for.
Bloodstained does look promising. I just put it on screen as an example of games that were kickstarted in a couple of days thanks to retro game devs being involved.
Yea, and Inti Creates. Originally I was dreading it when I heard that, but then I found out Inti Creates also did the MMZ series, which were pretty awesome. So I don't blame them, but the ........ I'll keep it clean, but the guy on top of MN9.
I tried this game out a while ago. I found it to be extremely boring and easy. it's extremely hard to actually die in the game and the dialogue is pretty clichéd. It really doesn't capture the feeling of classic Mega Man games at all, nor do any of the mechanics harken back to Mega Man either. I got the feeling it was more focused on spectacle and story than actual game play and challenge. Which is the same kind of design in Mighty No. 9, although in that case with some Mega Man elements thrown in.
The leading staff of both MN9 and GV are completely different sans the lead composer for Megaman Zero, ZX, ZXA, 9 and 10 who is the same for both, so that may shed some light on the differences. Inafune's involvement on this one was also minimal and merely consisted of token "this looks good" and "this doesn't" stuff, at least from what I can gather from development interviews. So yeah mismanagement from the top it is, Comcept being there too probably. Also it doesn't surprise me in the slightest that the game isn't very known, Inti Creates games are almost always niche, heck I found out about it just because I happened to open the 3DS eShop on the release date of GV1 for some unrelated reason and bought it right there because why the hell not. Don't expect much difficulty from the game however, especially if you use Prevasion amulets which make the experience more like a Kirby game than anything, the developers intentionally made the game very accessible. At least the Switch version has a built-in Hard Mode available from the start (though it's kinda sadistic since most stuff will 3-shot you and bosses will 2-shot you there).
+ppinillas that makes a lot of sense. The differences between the two games are night and day. As for the difficulty, I could see a hard mode being an awesome addition. The game was a pinch too ready, but I still enjoyed it.
Avalanche Reviews mixed about steam But wow what a fantastic review. This game looks SO MUCH FUN Guessing you played castlevania symphony of the night. U had to !
Not a big fan of the gameplay in this. I prefer Mighty Gunvolt Burst which also features Beck from Mighty No. 9 which really makes it feel like a MegaMan game (It also has Ekoro from Gal*Gun as a DLC character).
Hahaha, yessss, you sold me at "dick horns." This game looks solid! I'm still in denial that Mighty Number 9 was a thing, so this game helps me further forget that monstrosity. I'll keep an eye out for this to go on sale. Great video, Jared. By the way, I hope you're doing ok after the hurricane. :( Hang in there, buddy!!!
+Retro Island Gaming I knew you got a kick out of wiener accessories. I'm doing just fine. These hurricanes aren't tough enough to take me down! Thanks for the love
For some reason I can't get into this game. Every time I start it up and play one of the stages, I just completely stop playing before coming back to it months later. No matter how much I try to understand this game, I just cannot. And I LOVE the Mega Man X series, Legend series, and Battle Network series. Never did like the Zero series at all. Definitely did not like Mega Man ZX.
I did enjoy this game it was really fun and it did give the feel of Mega man in it's own way. that said there is a second game out now too and I need to buy that to try out, and if that not enough I got word of another game called Dragon: Marked for Death made by that same company and the staff consist of Mega man Zero and ZX members so that something to look into as well.
It baffles me how this game got little to no attention since its basically the megaman we needed. So glad i got the dual pack for the 3ds.
I was saying the same thing while playing it
possibly due to the nintendo eshop being a dump for actual trash titles. however there are really awesome games on there that do not have physical release or proper marketing.
did you mean the striker pack??
i think its because it is more of a sequel to the zx series and many people aren't familiar with it ( seriously I've seen so many people saying that this is a spiritual sequel to X like what? )

I don't get the joke about the Switch at 5:37. Could someone explain? I'm curious.
+James Russell just a good natured jab at Nintendo fans.
I laughed!

+SeafoamSmiles I think you're right there. When I saw their involvement in mn9 I had problems believing it.
Looking back. Gunvolt has grown way more popular and gets the attention it deserves while Mighty No. 9 has faded away. Also megaman is back so I'd say it allllllll worked out.
I remember playing the demo on 3ds. I shall buy it and the sequel on da ps4.
I wonder if they fixed the translation for the pc release. I remember hearing that half of the story content got cut in the english 3ds release. Not to mention some questionable translation issues.
They did, it was avalible since day 1 as "English (Japanese Voice Mode)". Dont know why he didn't use it.
Hey Jared not video related, but what´s your take on the Strider remake from 2014? After seeing this video it just pop in my head and I was wondering.
+TheSpectator64 I've had that in my steam library forever, but I still haven't tried it out. I really want to because I hear it's a metroidvania, and I love those.

there are i believe 2 sequels to this on the 3ds as well
Its a good game but it gets a tad grindy if you expect to 100% ace it. Also the levels become pretty reptititive after a while, and the same expects you to replay them over and over.
I usually don't 100% games. Every once in a while, a game will get me wanting to put that much time and effort in, but it's rare.
Yep but you still need to replay those levels in case you missed what is required for the REAL ending and I really recommend to get it, otherwise playing the sequel doesn't make any sense.
+Snap Snapper really? Well I guess I have some work to do then.
Lack of enemy variety really sucked
Great review as always my friend! This definitely is something I will have to look into getting, but I do know there was a pack of both this and its sequel released on the NIntendo Switch, so I might hold off just a bit and pick it up when I get a Switch lol
Speaking of, have you seen the team behind the MMZ series is working on a new exclusive for the Switch called Dragon: Marked for Death? It looks really promising!
Based on the pixel art, it looks fucking insane!!!
Hey, Avalanche, hope all is well. Have you ever played "Hyperlight Drifter?" I think you'd like it - was inspired by "A Link to the Past" with an awesome SNES aesthetic
+Innominate185 I haven't but that art style makes it worth a play alone. Ice been waiting for a good deal, or a bundle. Thanks for the recommendation.
Avalanche Reviews No problem. I was waiting for a deal as well, but finally gave in and bought it for $20. In hindsight, I actually don't mind paying more so the developers get more support.
I'm glad this game got the love it needed by having a more professional localization than the one at launch along with the QoL improvements from the Switch's Striker Pack,
Dick horns along with nuclear war are my two greatest fears, still, this game looks like a whole lot of fun to play. #9 did break my heart after all.
+Justin Bailey we all have woken up in a cold sweat after dreaming about dick horns.
One really interesting thing to note is that inafune actually had some involvement in the game
He told them not to make ground dashes cost ep
there is a version/related game called mighty gunvolt, that came out I believe at the same time as azure strike, the game is made in an 8bit style and you can play as beck from mighty Nº9!
I've seen that. Now that I know the game is so good, I'll have to check it out.
The Switch joke, effortlessly slipped in there, well done.
+Satchmo Omega ha!
+Satchmo Omega ha!
Mighty Gunvolt is also very very very fun. Good companion to this one.
I've been hearing that. I have it on Steam. I'll give it a whirl one of these days.
@@AvalancheReviews Mighty Gunvolt 1 plays almost nothing like Mega Man and has less substance than what Mighty No. 9 haters accuse that game of.
Azure Striker Gunvolt really managed to make the Megaman Zero formula more accessible without removing the fun gameplay, but i also love how it's not afraid of being itself, Unlike MN9 where pretty much every single character was a redesign of another character from classic Megaman.
we need more megaman games
Funnily enough, there are spin of games in this franchise that have Mighty No.9 in them and they're actually very solid titles.
I've been hearing about that. I may need to check it out.
Getting the game now cause of this video, thanks for the awareness
Gunvolt is his codename as the boss of QUILL says
I think of his true name as Zero (a reference to megaman {minus the idea of how he has electricity powers})
Wasn't expecting the switch hate in this video 😂 I work full time man, give me a break
Hey will you ever do a trashed classics on ps2 game metal saga it was a good rpg
+Amar Cesko I have that game, but never played. I'd love to finally give it a try
you should because their is vehicles plus customizing them their is also you characters which run in individual parts. Its an easy 60 hour game for me just running around

+Salix Fatuus that's the spirit!
The Elise boss is mald-inducing. That and the unfairly combo ruining cheapshots aside, decent game.
Nice review. I forgot about this game. Maybe I'll grab it for Switch.
Matt Siemens
I'm gonna wait for the retail release. It's out now on the eShop but a physical release is coming later for some reason 🤔
patrick borrelli oh cool. Maybe I'll wait for that too.
Yeah, I typically wait for physical releases too.
Nice! I LOVE me some classic mega man. I'm gonna have to pick this up on 3DS. Thanks!
Azure Striker Gunvolt
The Mighty No.9 of the Mega Man Zero games but actually did its Job well unlike the original spiritual successor

+MarioSonicBoss A. I definitely want to play part 2, and 20xxx has been on my radar lately. It looks great.
Bloodstained is lookin' really good right now. And IGA definitely has a big passion for his works so I'm pretty hopeful.

Welp, I guess this diaper changing switch player will just have to be here enjoying both sequels. Oh well.
Holy shit--this is on Steam?? I had no idea and assumed it was 3DS only. I am definitely picking it up. Thanks for the review!
+Gameplay and Talk I love comments like this! Showing someone a game they've never played is a fucking awesome feeling.
Holy fuck Jared if you get this be safe!
+Justin Bailey no need to worry. I'm safe, but more importantly, my games are safe.

+deathzero0212 I guess in that regard, it's more of a mega man x homage. I always enjoyed the x games more, so it makes sense I would like this.
So visually enticing.
Great game, that need more fans.
I have all the games on my 3ds, tons off fun ;)

what i have heard on the switch it 60 fps
really? That's actually pretty cool. Now I feel bad for talking shit. HA
lol tho it odd why is the pc port lock at 30 fps if on switch 60 fps super odd
+gabrielis kranskas that is a little weird

Best played on switch
I heard it's locked at 60fps on switch.
