Why these days every one obsessed with the idea that game need to be 60+ hour long best games i ever play are arcade games that last for less then 1 hour, but you want to play it over and over again I prefer game that short but fun, then long and feel like 2nd job
my fav game megaman 9 is 30 mins long and guess what I have probably spent like 500 plus hours on the damm thing. a game doesn't have to be really long to have lots of playing time.
+Oguzhan Gungor for me it does(if I'm spending 60 dollars) I demand a good amount of hours. I love mega man but despise how short it is, back then it was acceptable but now I can't give it a pass. Since this game is pretty cheap I'll let it slide, and so far its a great game.
Spanish Thunder They usually make 60 dollar games AAA long as fuck so thats no prob there. But something 30 or below and if it makes you play it over and over again then thats true replay-ability. Like I said I probably have spent like 700 hours on megaman 9.
OK so you mean to tell me that one developer team "Inti Creates Co" is creating two Megaman Like games ... BUT Capcom can't get a single one done and canceled like 3-4 games which are bringing them to edge of bankruptcy in the first place WOW, I think that is a achievement even for Capcom
Yup because "fans dont want megaman" im getting this because i miss playing something megaman. This, super smash bros 4, and mighty no 9 are the only things we'll get as close to playing mega man.
Jared Carpenter I think Capcom was also the one that said "Gamers are getting old and will stop playing" Dude I'm 26 and a half years old and I still watch cartoons and play games
DevilSoma No we need to follow how blue was Azure in colour, So it's more like 'Crimson Slasher: Swordvolt. But in all honesty is there another good name for Swordvolt? It felt recycled too much lol
HellomynameisRyanfirstoutindeedgooglelikesmesomuchtheybotheredmeuntilmynamewasthislong what happen if you change the swordvolt to swordflame, or something like that?
so i picked up this game a few days ago, beat the game for my first time through. After beating what i thought was the final boss i got the *cough* normal ending *cough cough* only to find out that the only way to face the true final boss, you have to jump through hoops and search for gems to create a special item. which adds hours to your gameplay because you want to find the gems, but at the same time you want to get the best score and time possible to s rank the levels. which means you will miss items, and you will have to go back and literally search for them. i have gone almost 20 minutes on a single level looking for all the items i could find, and that was after i had B ranked it first. Now i need to go back and S rank the level rinse and repeat. while the game is short you will want to search the levels for medals and the gem, or get the best score you can and S rank the level so you can create new equipment to deck out gunvolt to the best he can be. and with 3 other save files. you can bet i'm gonna be doing the same thing on each one.
A sequel will probably offer longer gameplay. The 8 bit mighty gunvolt will hopefully get a sequel and be longer also. Honestly , the length of these games cater in part to modern times , where people are very busy. I seriously take my time with games , so it's relative time span is fine. I think most people will see this as appropriate
Something similar happened when Nintendo did the Smash Bros Direct earlier this year, and out of nowhere, Sony unveils the updated PS All-Star - Battle Royal. smh lol
Well if it has a meter and it's the main mechanic of the game chances are the levels are specifically tailored to keep it from being overpowered I could be completely wrong but that's how assumptions work.
Actually this game is challenging , to deal decent damage you need to tag at least 2 shots (of 3 max tags) and often it's not only one enemy in screen . It's not brutally hard as classics megaman but it's more like MMZ or MMX in terms of difficulty . Also the boss battles is where it REALLY shines the electric tag mechanics , boss battles are challenging and their movements patterns are way more varied and less predictable than an MMZ game . Give this game a try if you liked MMX or MMZ games , you will definitly like it .
+Uliseh The destructiveness of the Flashfield contributes to making it fast-paced, and this fast pace is one of the main things that makes this game fun.
Right now, yes it's worth it because they give the SNES Gunvolt Striker game for free if you purchase the game before November. Two games in one price is pretty worth it :)
***** Question how do you get Mighty Gunvolt? I bought and downloaded the game but i didn't see or gotten anything related to that game. Is it included in the game or do you unlock it when finishing the game?
I had the same problem trying to find it. Download code can be found in the receipt for the game by doing this: Load eShop Hit Menu on top left Hit Settings / Other Hit Account Activity Hit "View Receipt" for the title you want to view (demos/updates do not have receipts)
This looks really fun! It may actually get me to pick up my 3ds for the first time since I got burnt out on pokemon y months ago. And please make a megaman battle network like game for one of the handhelds! I would buy that day one
YES!!! It's finally out!! The new Megam... I mean, Azure Striker is out!!! Take that Capcom! Fans win this awesome game, and you lose both money and fans.
if only mighty number 9 incorporated these kinds of graphic then it would be a worth the buy. Too bad they went the 2.5d route which made gameplay very chaka and less enjoyable.
Mega Sceptile yes you are right for most games that's true. In fact this is the case when a les up to date graphics would be beneficial for the game in every aspect
Leon9z I don't think they're trying I think they just liked the gameplay and decided they could do something different with it but I could be wrong so unless they say themselves....
If they are gonna compare it to mega man they should mention that all mega man games (most action side scrollers) are short and that gun volt tries to circumvents this with challenges. Plus it's only 15 dollars.
Wait a minute. There IS no 'level up' system in Gunvolt! I know because I've played it and at no point does the character ever, EVER get stronger. And believe me, I have TRIED to find ways to get stronger. Nothing works for me! What am I doing wrong?! Or is my digital copy of the game just fucked?
There *is* a level up system, and you can check your level on the lower screen. The only thing that "gets stronger" is your health (I think EP gets leveled too, but I don't remember if it does). Gunvolt only gets more health when you level up, but you'll start to notice a difference eventually.
"Harder to find materials?" In my experience, ALL materials are IMPOSSIBLE to acquire without beating the best times, and even then you only get items by CHANCE. Seriously, I feel like I played a different version of the game to everyone else - a version that's fucked and impossible to finish.
i bought it. i know only 15usd but toooooooooooooooo small e repetitive. the main plot is very poor of characters e charisma. i would prefer a megaman zx sequence... and its DAM TOO EASY when you get revived you get full energy and infinite. and dont even have difficulty change.
robotcow28 I find you can never really judge a game's games difficulty just from gameplay videos especially not from review sites as they have to spend time going through every single part of the game to learn everything they need to know then they have to go and record the footage so they'd likely have some skill first. And if some has skill well.... it always looks easy from an outside perspective if you buy it for your brother borrow and see if you were wrong who knows maybe you'll be pleasantly surprised.
robotcow28 you can finish the game whit any game over if you are a megaman veteran, but the point of the game is not to finish but to get a high score and getting the high shcool of a single level will take you some time
I actually have a friend who likes megaman, until he saw gunvolt and hated it because its repetitive like a megaman rip off. he asked me when he told me he hated gunvolt, does the creator even have another way to do a game instead of 2d and said some things like oh he must be a retarded grease monkey that failed an experiment. as for me i don't see anything wrong with this game, except the mimicry, but it seems a ok game to get your boredom out of you, but i also question. like how avgn said whatever happened to the megaman series like who it ended at one point and we never see it again.
The Electric tag mechanic is way different to play than the regular Buster/X-buster shot , actually is more challenging in some ways and it definitly feels different the combat in AS Gunvolt. Wall jumping , Dash are there and that's the main connection to the Megaman games in terms of mechanics and i love to see them there because those mechanics are what makes MMX and MMZ games so fun to play compared to other action plataformers . Calling it a Ripoff is way off to be honest , maybe Mighty No9 is more debatable because it's a spiritual succesor but Azure Striker Gunvolt is unique as it is .
Why these days every one obsessed with the idea that game need to be 60+ hour long

Oguzhan Gungor did you actually read my whole post? "Since this game is pretty cheap I'll let it slide".
Why does the reviewer pretend 1:40:00 is not a good length for an arcade-style platformer? That is longer than average. Length =/= quality.
OK so you mean to tell me that one developer team "Inti Creates Co" is creating two Megaman Like games ... BUT Capcom can't get a single one done and canceled like 3-4 games which are bringing them to edge of bankruptcy in the first place

Hell ill still be playing video games when im a grandpa.
putting it blunt capcom is just retarded. doesn't look like that's going to change either unfortunately.
RobertAniFreak 26 Is not considered old, you're young dude..capcom just been making awful ideas lately
Honestly I would prefer an Azure Striker: Swordvolt.
Fan of Zero don't you? :)
***** yes!. The Megaman Zero games are my personal favorites of the Megaman franchise
:O Red Striker: Swordvolt!?
DevilSoma No we need to follow how blue was Azure in colour, So it's more like 'Crimson Slasher: Swordvolt. But in all honesty is there another good name for Swordvolt? It felt recycled too much lol

True.
its funny how just as soon as inafune released azure striker capcom decides to have a 60% off sale on nintendo eshop
Something similar happened when Nintendo did the Smash Bros Direct earlier this year, and out of nowhere, Sony unveils the updated PS All-Star - Battle Royal. smh lol
I don't think Inafune worked on this
AstrosGamer I know it’s late but he was a producer
wow. a gamespot review that actually ends with a concluding tone
Can you tell me what the bosses are saying when they attack, and also when using GV's skills? It's in Japanese, so I never found out.
Rezee Reezah
just finished it... i enjoyed the game, was very megaman zx like, just the way i like it
Will probably pick up tomorrow. Games like are this are what handheld console were made for.
WIIU NEEDS THESE GAMES!
Yeah that's the only thing it didn't give you more but hey for 15 bucks you got a game worth at least 20.
Two words: LAZY LASER!!!
*RAZY RAZER!!!
+Shigerlu Miyamorto *CRAZY TASER!!!
+MasterKcoop CUREICHI TUREIZAAA!!!!
I love these types of games- reminds me a bit of Metal Slug. That blue force field looks a little over powered.
The blue force field is the only way you can attack.
Well if it has a meter and it's the main mechanic of the game chances are the levels are specifically tailored to keep it from being overpowered I could be completely wrong but that's how assumptions work.
it's not over power you need to strategize the use of it
Actually this game is challenging , to deal decent damage you need to tag at least 2 shots (of 3 max tags) and often it's not only one enemy in screen . It's not brutally hard as classics megaman but it's more like MMZ or MMX in terms of difficulty .

Now I really want another Gunstar Heroes game. Agent Blue, lightning pistol mod.
its a download game they shouldn't expect it to have loads of content! also he's working on mighty no 9 RN sooo
Looks better than no.9 from what I see. Might pick it up soon
So is the game worth the $15 pricetag? I plan to likely get it tomorrow.
Right now, yes it's worth it because they give the SNES Gunvolt Striker game for free if you purchase the game before November. Two games in one price is pretty worth it :)
I bought it, it's alright so far, nothing fantastic but pretty good. I beat Mighty Gunvolt in a day though, a little too short but still fun.
For the pricetag I can't complain a lot, I'd feel ripped off if it was higher than that.
***** Question how do you get Mighty Gunvolt? I bought and downloaded the game but i didn't see or gotten anything related to that game. Is it included in the game or do you unlock it when finishing the game?
I had the same problem trying to find it. Download code can be found in the receipt for the game by doing this:
Load eShop
Hit Menu on top left
Hit Settings / Other
Hit Account Activity
Hit "View Receipt" for the title you want to view (demos/updates do not have receipts)
yes it is short, but it's $15 that's a good deal to me
Is this only available on the eShop?
This looks really fun! It may actually get me to pick up my 3ds for the first time since I got burnt out on pokemon y months ago. And please make a megaman battle network like game for one of the handhelds! I would buy that day one
caleb slagle agreed MegaMan battle network is my favorite MegaMan game have you played MegaMan starforce? its similar to MMBN.
wait this isn't on wiiu?
+T SMACKS Nah but on Steam ^^
123GermanGamer wow...just wow
3ds tho
YES!!! It's finally out!! The new Megam... I mean, Azure Striker is out!!!
Take that Capcom! Fans win this awesome game, and you lose both money and fans.
Can you change the controls?
Yup, I saw on a Japanese video that you can change the controls during the missions by access the pause menu, as previous Megaman games did ~
if only mighty number 9 incorporated these kinds of graphic then it would be a worth the buy. Too bad they went the 2.5d route which made gameplay very chaka and less enjoyable.
What does graphics have to do with anything?
+Mega Sceptile it has to do with everything. If the developers went 2d they would have more time to polish the gameplay and it wouldn't suck
shadowmax889 ok fair point but graphics aren't everything in a game.
Mega Sceptile yes you are right for most games that's true. In fact this is the case when a les up to date graphics would be beneficial for the game in every aspect
4 million dollars.
no one can replace megaman
Maybe Mighty No. 9, but only because it's the original Mega Man creator working free from Capcom.
Leon9z I don't think they're trying I think they just liked the gameplay and decided they could do something different with it but I could be wrong so unless they say themselves....
This game is being made by Megaman's creator, Keiji Inafune, so its not really trying to replace Megaman
Stop living in the past and enjoy what the future that the creator of Mega-Man has brought us.
Not replace, just a legacy ^^
If they are gonna compare it to mega man they should mention that all mega man games (most action side scrollers) are short and that gun volt tries to circumvents this with challenges. Plus it's only 15 dollars.
GAYMESP8T LOGIC
"its made by creators of Megaman"
8/10
-Gamespot
Why dont they give that Developer his right to own megaman its HIS creation dammit! And nobody can top his megaman style games. Capcom is trippin.

Looks Like A Mega Man Spin Off
+The FoamLawd Same development team
It Was Good Game Too
Still one of my favorite games. I'm waiting the release of GV3
idk but to me the bossfights are so frustrating and really hard that I got stuck XD
insert anime prom night joke here.
"Harder to find materials?" In my experience, ALL materials are IMPOSSIBLE to acquire without beating the best times, and even then you only get items by CHANCE. Seriously, I feel like I played a different version of the game to everyone else - a version that's fucked and impossible to finish.
Your score affects the materials. Try getting A's and S's to get some of the rarer ones
old school megaman type game? sweet im in :)
You also get an 8 bit megaman like game as well for free if you buy this one :D
The Elise boss is mald-inducing. That and the unfairly combo ruining cheapshots aside, decent game.
megaman future
meanwhile with Mighty No 9......................
now in the limbo of the (mostly) ever lasting, heating and biggest hate
A must play!
I like how they didn't say a single word about the story. Going back to IGN
Please come to the Vita
still better than mighty no 09
It seems that the length of this game is its only downfall. Other than that it is a great game.
This game should be medabot's franchise.
looks like a casual re-imaging of Mega Man X.
Well the developer is responsible for the megaman zero and zx series. And megaman 9.
The difficulty depends of your choices to upgrade Gunvolt too ~
+wishingW3L Same development team. Also the fast pace, the Game Boy Advance feel, and the music make it feel more like Mega Man Zero
Gunvolt is harder than x which isn't saying much... x was super casual game form the beginning Shit is easy as fuck.
Reminds me of Megaman.
*****
That explains it. xD
Actually it's from the creators of the Mega Man Zero and ZX games. The team of those games are Capcom veterans.
No Tom McShea review this time ... aww :(
Tom McShea is no longer with Gamespot.
Nice game!
i bought it. i know only 15usd but toooooooooooooooo small e repetitive. the main plot is very poor of characters e charisma. i would prefer a megaman zx sequence... and its DAM TOO EASY when you get revived you get full energy and infinite. and dont even have difficulty change.

What do you mean why not Metroid?
*sigh*
Because Inti Creates and not Nintendo

robotcow28 I find you can never really judge a game's games difficulty just from gameplay videos especially not from review sites as they have to spend time going through every single part of the game to learn everything they need to know then they have to go and record the footage so they'd likely have some skill first.

robotcow28 you can finish the game whit any game over if you are a megaman veteran, but the point of the game is not to finish but to get a high score and getting the high shcool of a single level will take you some time
This game is hell with its masochists boss fights. The heck was Inti Creates thinking with this cheap copy of dark souls difficulty spike?
looks like utter trash

Inafune (who did a LOT on the megaman series) made this game because Capcom sure as hell wont let any megaman game get released. Including X and Z.
The Electric tag mechanic is way different to play than the regular Buster/X-buster shot , actually is more challenging in some ways and it definitly feels different the combat in AS Gunvolt.
