    Honestly, they need to rethink sprinting rules or at least enforce the ones already existing. Of the 3 wins, there were 2 where the guy arguably cut of other riders, and 1 where his lead-out was relegated. This is getting dangerous.

      Yeah, a rule is a rule, but they aren't enforcing it at all. At this point Philipsen knows he can get away with it every time. It wasn't even remotely subtle this time. He went all the way across the road diagonally until he had Bini against the barrier. He's going to keep using it till someone gets sent to the hospital.

      @@dankrogholm9774 this is how they have been sprinting since the begin of the time. ur escape goating an individual rather than attacking the industry that is promoting these behaviours. contrary to popular belief, philipsen isn't getting penalised, not cos uci doesn't have balls or uci favours alpecin or philipsen. it's cos, if they act on philipsen, that would mean they would have to apply the same rules for every one else and take action. that would create disruption in every single race, meaning every race u might have the race winner relegated, that looks bad for publicity. dirty riding is what alaphilipe and evenepoel does, reckless/endangering riders is what groenewegen did. philipsen's just hovering that limit but hasn't crossed it yet.

    Sadly the only way the driving style of him could change or have consequences by now, is if other drivers went into suicide mode, too. Then there would have either been a crash or Philipsen wouldn´t have been able to get onto the wheel of Cav, as Girmay was already there.

      @GamerFlair 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      He would win sprints. He wouldn't be as consistant. Today for example he would have had to go fully in the wind, as Cav went early and Beni had his wheel. Maybe he still makes it, maybe he just loses out due to not having great positioning going in. How many times in the past have we seen the best sprinter in the world, or the best sprinter in a race, not win the sprint because of less then optimal positioning or just because they just got dealt a bad hand that day.
      The fuckery they are doing is basically eliminating all those random factors in a way that isn't fair. But at the end of the day, if they aren't going to enforce the rules, this is going to happen and I don't even blame them because they are top level sportsman and they are there to win. If the rules aren't being enforced, it essentially makes what they are doing totally legal and fine. Its super effective, so why not do it.
      Of course, if the ruling body doesn't do something, it will get out of hand. F1 had a similar situation in 2021 where they didn't enforce rules early on because they didn't want to intervere with results. It got way out of control, esaclated to the point that both parties were just being totally unreasonable and crashes started happening.

    JP found himself in a losing situation, the team dropped him off and he had no where to go. Alp & JP made decisions up to that point to be in that position, with the resources they had to work, and it was about to go sour...as did Bing/Cav with an advantage. JP would not have had Cav's wheel without causing other riders(rider) to deviate from spaces in a sprint that were rightfully their spaces by the rules. Agreed, 100% a relegation, there just is no argument otherwise. JP is really good, and has a strong headed youth for wins. I appreciate that quality...but it's been riding a line of overstepping boundaries in what is fair to win. In this situation totally unacceptable needing penalty. Luckily for everyone Bing seems like he isn't willing to risk damage to himself and others to fight back for that space, from what I have seen he has a spatial/situational fairness barometer that may be holding him back a bit against the no holds bar types in the peloton who are just more willing to risk those split second throw yourself in there moments that just trust someone is gonna move or the heck with consequences.

    Judging a sprint isn't always as easy as looking for who deviated from their line.
    Cav starts in the middle and then drifts towards the right hand barrier. Bini is next to Cav but can't match his speed so he tries to tuck into his slipstream. Jasper sees Cav coming and also tries to tuck into his slipstream. So actually they both deviate from their line to follow Cav, who's drifting towards the barrier, and only one can take the slipstream. Jasper gets there first in this case so Bini had to yield. The moment Jasper arrives at Cavs wheel first, Bini's sprint is over. He's boxed in because he didn't have the speed to beat Jasper to the wheel of Cav.
    After the finish Bini even said there was nothing wrong with Jaspers move, it was just frustration in the heat of the moment.
    What worries me more is how crooked these barriers look. It's only a matter of time before someone gets caught out by one of those kinks, those are just flat out dangerous.

      I think Jasper was taking Cav's wheel no matter how big or small the gap to the next rider was. He saw that was the place to be and decided he was going for it. JP got over next to Cav with his front wheel up level with Cav's rear wheel, So he was in a stronger position to drift backwards and force Bini off the wheel, even if Bini was only had a gap of 1cm between wheels.
      Personally I don't know exactly where the line is between normal racing stuff and relegation. People are pushing other guys off wheels many many times in the last 10k of the race. Not sure at what point it becomes not ok. Obviously this is the time where it makes the most difference.

    UCI should do more to ensure that athletes are able should not get injured or hurt. This’s humiliation. We’re proud of you BINi king 🤴 😢😢😢😢
    In the context of an event like the Tour de France, where athletes compete at the highest level of cycling, it is essential to prioritize fairness and respect for fellow competitors. In situations where one person intentionally blocks another person, it goes against the principles of fair play and sportsmanship.
    To address such situations, I would suggest the following:
    1. Clear Communication: It is essential for event organizers to establish clear guidelines and rules regarding blocking behavior. Athletes should be made aware of the consequences and potential penalties for intentionally obstructing or impeding their competitors.
    2. Fostering Sportsmanship: Emphasize the importance of fair play, respect, and sportsmanship through ongoing education and training programs. Encourage athletes to compete with integrity and prioritize the spirit of healthy competition.
    3. Strong Referee Presence: Ensure that there are sufficient referees and officials throughout the race, actively monitoring and penalizing unsportsmanlike conduct. Referees should have the authority to intervene promptly and impartially when blocking or obstruction occurs, guaranteeing a fair and level playing field for all competitors.
    4. Post-Race Review: Establish a post-race review process to thoroughly assess any incidents of intentional blocking. Use video footage and testimonies from involved parties to determine the severity and intent of the action. Penalties or appropriate disciplinary actions should be implemented if necessary.
    5. Encourage Respectful Competition: Promote a culture of respect and fair competition among participants, coaches, and spectators. Create platforms for athletes to share their experiences, stories, and values about sportsmanship, highlighting positive role models and their examples.
    By implementing these suggestions, it is possible to maintain the integrity of competitive events like the Tour de France, fostering a respectful environment where athletes can demonstrate their abilities while upholding the core values of sportsmanship.

      Agreed, Jasper, Max Verstappen, and Marc Marquez are cut from the same cloth where taking chances with competitors lives are concerned, and they all hope to take advantage using that extra aggressiveness to force others to back off or use their rear wheels to clip the competitors front wheels, and you can guess who's going to lose in that confrontation.

    A focused energy field was sensed by high level officials in the final finish location of stage 7 at the same time Mark Cavendish slipped a gear. We have reason to believe one of the teams may have been involved in unfair mechanical competition that utilized electric pulse waves to induce a shift to the di2 gear system. This matter is currently under investigation.

      @@rocketmanracer26 ur confusing speed with distance. faster doesn't mean he can hold max speed for 300m. why is bini grabbing cav's wheel then, if he's faster. why not sprint in open wind?
      fyi, it's not me who's saying jasper is the fastest sprinter atm, it's the cycling world. also, bini and cav aren't even come top 10. that's a preposterous comment to make. he needs to take the wheel to fend off other sprinters.

  • @darmaggi
    @darmaggi 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    It's pretty messed up that Jasper wasn't relegated on this stage or on his first win when he did the same thing to Wout, when he majorly deviated from the center of the road while taking advantage of his lead out, but then of course you see him glance over at Wout and crosses over a good 15 feet to push him within inches of the barrier, so Wout has to back off or end up like Fabio at the Tour of Poland in the first stage. You can split hairs about when the official "sprinting" starts as to when to apply a judgement on deviating one's line, but if he's pulled out from behind his lead out then it's safe to say his sprinting has started, and that was also when he moved over 15 feet to use barriers against his competitor.
    This kicker is when he lost the sprint to Pederson the other day, and only got to make an appearance on the podium for his green jersey, he couldn't muster that smile he flashes when he wins dirty....lousy sportsmanship and behavior.

    I think they are right when they say that you need to crash if you want your opponent to be relegated. And even if that happens, you don't get anything out of it. Alpecin actually deviates twice in that sprint - if the one with Girmay isn't quite enough to get penalized, the one with Pedersen seconds before could have been referred to.
