My youngest has been nagging me for a while to go camping so I’ll take him more often now and hopefully when this situation get better, take him on a proper wild camp. I’ve had a drone for a few years but it was too big to take with me. I’ve got a new one now which packs down much smaller so I’ll take it with me, when the weather allows. Great review! you showed the tent really good inside and outside. i was afraid that it hade to little vestibule but it seems you can cook inside if it raining. I will use this mostly alone so i will have extra space inside to maybe have my backback next to my sleeping pad and food in the vestibule. think i will buy this tent for the used of spring summer time, for me is the high ceiling, low weight and big entrance that have me sold

Yes, the age difference is a long story that involved a “pleasant surprise”’followed by me cancelling my golf club membership and other treats but hey, Father Christmas exists again 😂. Hi Jiffy wow epic footage from air at start and what a great review of the Niak plenty of space inside oh is that the Rab endrance 600 sleeping bag had mine three seasons now and still going strong, can't wait to get back out with my Hilleberg again, I do suffer from OCD when it comes to exposing my enan to UV light and have always manged to set it up just as the sun is setting and then getting it aired and packed away before it gets going again the next day, sad I know. Great spot you have their keep safe.

Great to get out with the nippers 😁 managed one night in the carneddau with my daughter the weekend before it all kicked off 😔 I've bought a niak for milder months only been put up at home yet bought the footprint with it but unlike every other hilleberg I've owned it doesn't cover the vestibule 🙄
Robert Delaney mine came with a free footprint and yes, it doesn’t cover the vestibule floor. I’ll still use it though for extra protection of the groundsheet. It’s was good to get out but I am missing those mountains. I hope you are well, keep safe, ATB Jiffy 👍🏻
Hi again Jiffy. I’m still contemplating the Niak as a solution for all year use in Britain, hill climbing backpacking, and bicycle camping with my folding Brompton. I’d be really grateful for your opinion of whether my bike would fit in the vestibule? It’s 55cm long, but the problem could be its 60cm height combined with a depth of 25cm. At that height I wondered whether the vestibule has enough depth to accommodate it. I wondered whether next time you have the tent up you’d mind measuring it to see? Thank you, Peter
Hi Peter, because of the angle/slope of the vestibule, it might be a tight fit. The depth is 65cm but the angle is quite low. There is a tie out point which could pull the centre of the door out a bit for some extra space. Heave you looked at the Rogen? It has an additional pole that increases the size of the vestibule and also has 2 vestibules. You could use one for you bike and the other for rucksack/cooking etc 👍🏻

Did look at Rogen but it has a low ceiling (I’m 1.88cm tall) and I liked the simplicity and lighter weight of the Niak. The truth is I have an Allak2 but was interested in downsizing for reasons of weight and pack size for hill climbing. Getting the Niak to also do the biking bit would mean I could sell the Allak and save a bit of weight and bulk on the bike as well.

Hi. I enjoy your videos. Just wondering how you found the niak. I have a soulo and enan and noticed increased condensation in the enan compared to soulo ?
John Cordner The Niak has quite a bit more internal space than the Soulo and is easier to erect. There was a bit of condensation on the fly sheet but non in the inner tent. The conditions were perfect for condensation to form though because there wasn’t any air movement. Thank you for watching. ATB Jiffy 👍🏻
Great video! Please tell me how the tent is kept in the wind, because it has decent cutouts in the center at the bottom for good ventilation. And what about the draft, is it not very cold in it? Confused by the grid at the entrance at the very bottom
igor korneichuk Thank you. I’ve had it up in quite brisk winds and it didn’t budge but I haven’t had it out for a proper test yet. You do feel a breeze through it but I wouldn't say it was cold. I doubt there will be any condensation issues. What grid do you mean? 👍🏻
@@igorkorneichuk1139 Yes, the door of the inner is mesh to allow for better ventilation but will keep bugs out. 3 Season tents usually have this type of configuration.I hope this helps 👍🏻
Thanks for this fun video! I hadn’t really considered yellow label tents suited to winter conditions, but I see Hilleberg really only say that they aren’t if you have snow which we rarely have in Shropshire/mid Wales. The weight saved with the yellow labels looks enticing (my Allak2 weighs double your Niak, and on my own most times I don’t need two entrances). Do you find the mesh inner rather cold? And have you ever been unable to stake the vestibule? Cheers!
Hi Peter, I haven’t found the mesh door to be particularly drafty but it won’t offer as much protection as full material. Not had any issues with staking the vestibule. It’s the same weight as an Akto but much bigger internally, especially for one person. It’s a great tent that I don’t see many people using. ATB Jiffy 👍🏻
@@WildCampingWelshman so, on my bikepacking where sometimes I have to pitch on an asphalt surface (not very wild I know!) if I can’t peg the vestibule can you still use the vestibule do you think to store stuff (accepting that it would be rather flappy)?
You could tie it out using a rock or wood or your pack etc. It will flap about if it isn’t secured somehow because there is quite an excess of material. Possibly use your bike to secure it 👍🏻
@@WildCampingWelshman yeah, that’s what I was thinking. Rocks/trees often aren’t conveniently available. Presumably the rucksack would be inside when tied to it? I cycle with a folding Brompton which I prefer to keep indoors. It could be used to anchor the door but might obscure access. Anyway, something for me to think about over next few months 😁

The Enan would be a squeeze but the dog could go in the vestibule. The Niak will have plenty of room. I would take the Niak 👍🏻

And what about the draft, is it not very cold in it? Confused by the grid at the entrance at the very bottom
igor korneichuk Thank you. I’ve had it up in quite brisk winds and it didn’t budge but I haven’t had it out for a proper test yet. You do feel a breeze through it but I wouldn't say it was cold. I doubt there will be any condensation issues. What grid do you mean? 👍🏻

@@igorkorneichuk1139 Yes, the door of the inner is mesh to allow for better ventilation but will keep bugs out. 3 Season tents usually have this type of configuration.I hope this helps 👍🏻

Thanks for this fun video! I hadn’t really considered yellow label tents suited to winter conditions, but I see Hilleberg really only say that they aren’t if you have snow which we rarely have in Shropshire/mid Wales. The weight saved with the yellow labels looks enticing (my Allak2 weighs double your Niak, and on my own most times I don’t need two entrances). Do you find the mesh inner rather cold? And have you ever been unable to stake the vestibule? Cheers!
Hi Peter, I haven’t found the mesh door to be particularly drafty but it won’t offer as much protection as full material. Not had any issues with staking the vestibule. It’s the same weight as an Akto but much bigger internally, especially for one person. It’s a great tent that I don’t see many people using. ATB Jiffy 👍🏻
@@WildCampingWelshman so, on my bikepacking where sometimes I have to pitch on an asphalt surface (not very wild I know!) if I can’t peg the vestibule can you still use the vestibule do you think to store stuff (accepting that it would be rather flappy)?
You could tie it out using a rock or wood or your pack etc. It will flap about if it isn’t secured somehow because there is quite an excess of material. Possibly use your bike to secure it 👍🏻
@@WildCampingWelshman yeah, that’s what I was thinking. Rocks/trees often aren’t conveniently available. Presumably the rucksack would be inside when tied to it? I cycle with a folding Brompton which I prefer to keep indoors. It could be used to anchor the door but might obscure access. Anyway, something for me to think about over next few months 😁
Yes, secure it to something from the inside and use that to push the material out 👍🏻

We normally eat homemade food, so this was a rare "treat" because he wanted to eat what I sometimes eat when I go wild camping. Keep safe, best wishes Jiffy 👍🏻
