This production was held in Japan. At that time, she was illness(Influenza). But this was Ms.Scotto's Japan debut, so she decided to sing. One of the collegues talked in Japanese TV, ''Ms.Scotto was in unusual condition, almost MAD.''
That's because Lucia was a weirdo. This is flawless, believe me; listen to Netrebko, Grubbyover, and the like. CLUELESS. I saw her two times in Italy and she was a stunning Lucia. The Italians thought so too.
She gets off of those high notes pretty fast in the coloratura and when you hear her sustain that last note you understand why. Her voice spreads under pressure on those high notes. This tendency got worse towards the end of her singing career, but at least, she supported her voice here. She was never a favorite of mine, but she did have her moments.
One of the most unappealing things about TH-cam is the tendency of people to share their often not very well informed opinions as if they are somehow authoritative. Scotto was a great singer for good reason. Her colleagues were enormous fans of her art, her technique and beautifully poised singing. People have never based such careers on “moments”.
@@emanuelezazzero4450 Yes. Scotto has great technique and really solid vocalism but the overall voice is nothing legendary. She wasn't in the same league as Sutherland, Callas or Freni. It's not even a particularly gorgeous or beautiful voice. Just pleasing, secure and very Italianate. Oropesa's voice much more gorgeous, musical and exciting.

This is in her early period, 33 years old, I believe. I don't think she was really a coloratura, but kind of a nice lyric/soubrette at this point, and I mean no disrespect! Like many singers, they long for the heavier more dramatic roles.
Callas' voice is very flawed (natural and technique), she admitted it at least on the natural voice. Just her fans refuse to hear. You are more into her looks. Her fans are not real opera aficionados but rather for the glamour of opera.
Esta ária no era para quien la quiso cantar aunque fuera un soprano spinto o dramático. Culpa de la sobrevalorada Callas. Esta aria fue escrita para un soorano lírico como la Mayor parte de las óperas hasta Verdi. Estudia.
Elle s’efforce de faire exister un personnage, c’est le seul mérite qu’on puisse lui reconnaître. Musicalement, c’est une catastrophe. Une voix laide et étriquée, aux graves inaudibles, aux aigus semblables à des miaulements (sa marque de fabrique, en quelque sorte). Et la ligne, et les trilles, et la clarté des consonnes? On maquille, on savonne, on éponge , on minaude : non seulement ça passe mais le public semble satisfait. Au milieu des années 60, après Callas et avant Caballé on manquait de sopranos pour servir les grands ouvrages romantiques, en Italie singulièrement . Dans ce désert une artiste aussi médiocre que Scotto eut la chance de percer (c’est le cas de le dire) et de se maintenir par la suite en évoluant vers le répertoire vériste, plus adapté à ses faibles moyens.

Well, this is ok.. this is not Callas, but what is.. This is some very wierd.. singing.. even though the tone is good throughout.
I loveCallas too and think almost everything she sang is difficult for others to interpret, but Renata Scotto is marvellous!

Vous êtes un peu sévère ,mais je suis en partie d'accord avec vous .La voix dans les aigus est laide et étriquée ,c'est vrai .
