Such a simple, quick project. I sew just like you do - few pins, I mainly eyeball hems instead of measuring, I even have a similar iron! This was great - thanks!
I love the way you have sewn your neck, I'm watching this while looking at the pattern and your version is so much easier to understand. Everytime you use your iron it make me jump!🤣
I have just bought this pattern, and can’t wait to try it out. I am petite too, 4 ft 11 and roughly your size, so I hope mine turns out as good a fit as yours
Bless you Andrea!!! I so appreciate you doing this. I had requested it a while ago and am delighted you’ve posted it now. I’m really looking forward to sewing 🧵 the Somerset and with knits now. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ ❤️🥰 I love the fabric you chose and it looks great on you! The tags are a wonderful idea too! I have to go to your website and look at your fabrics now. Even though I live in Pennsylvania, I want to shop with you. You are so special! 💐
Ah that's super that you enjoyed it Sharon. I was so long getting around to doing it. I love the tags , really helps. Hope you can join us in the live today at 7pm (our time)
Top looks lovely. The tag on the outside of the garment would drive me crazy. I’d recommend putting it on the inside perhaps on the inside hem. Just my opinion.
Beautiful fabric for that shirt. I just bought that pattern on your recommendation so I was happy to see how easily it comes together. I think I will make loads of them. I like your idea of putting the label on the front. The back label is the first thing I remove from any garment. When I sew for my grandson, I put a little tab in the back of pj bottoms so he can find the back. Love your tutorials! Thanks Andrea.
I always take the tag from the neck too . It really irritates me. Without that tag at the front I have to really study the top to see which is the right way . That’s a great idea for your grandsons pjs .
That’s a really quick and easy make. Love that sort lol. It looks lovely on you, the colours really suit you. I’ve put on so much weight this year I don’t like fitted tops at the mo. Fat belly!!!!🙈. Maybe for the summer I might try it. ❤️❤️
Meant to ask, did you ever sew up the sagebrush top in that lovely art gallery fabric? I’ve got the pattern but not made it up yet. Considering taking a bit of fullness out of the sleeve.
@@lynnhunter5790 I didn't get to make it yet. It's the next project after Cerys's coat . It's cut out ready, I think I left the fullness in it , I'll have to look, It's so long since I cut it out!!
Love that neckline Andrea (similar to another freebie pattern I think - but I find the sleeves a bit too tight). Will need to treat myself to this pattern I think 🤔 🧑🏻🎄🏴
You'll love it mags. It ticks all the boxes for me. The sleeves are perfect , I find a lot of sleeve patterns too tight but this one is spot on for me !
Your top turned out so adorable! I have made same Somerset using the instructions for sewing the neckline but I love your method, it's cleaner. Will definitely use it on the next one I make. Thank you for sharing!
I sewed it up and ended up with a gaping neckline. For me this was not at all a straight sew, which it should have been regarding it’s not a difficult pattern. Maybe I have to try your tutorial. Thanks 😊
Love this pattern, I'm just about to cut out number 8! I saw your previous sew along and changed the way I did my neck band to how you do yours, much easier and a great finish, thank for sharing Andrea 😊
I think this one was my 8th too !! And I'll be making more. That's great about the neckband , it's much faster and I like the finish at the shoulders better too
Andrea, loved the video. I'm about to make this tee. Question...what is the brand of your ironing board and iron? Is the ironing board made to hold the heavy iron?
I just finished making one earlier today, with the bishop sleeve. It would have been nice to have some company. I do have plans for another one so.... Happy new year to you and your family.
Wow! You made that look so easy, I’m tempted to try sewing jersey for this first time! Thanks for the inspiration, I’ve loved your videos so much I’m on a slow fashion year, nothing new for me only second hand or made by myself for 2021. Cheers!
Hi Andrea, Loving the photograph of Lola with the sun glasses. I have made the Somerset a few times but maybe I'm being hard on myself I never seem to like it on me, but I love them on you and Jayne from Loopy Mabel's closet, but I have only used plain fabric so far, maybe I should try a pattern fabric, watching you make another one has inspired me to make a patterned one.
Lola looks so cute , it took a lot of out takes before we got that cute pic!! She’s not very co operative when she knows the camera is on her!! Ah yes maybe if you try a patterned fabric you might like it . I love patterned fabrics .. as you know ❤️❤️
Thank you Andrea for the tutorial, loved it. My utube cancelled the bell function for some weird reason but I’ve reinstated it now. Wishing you and Cerys a very happy new year xx
Ah that’s great you enjoyed it Sandra, it’s a great top to make ! I love it . We’re doing a live tomorrow eve (Wednesday) at 7.. just in case you haven’t seen it scheduled . It wouldn’t be the same without you 😊
Thats lovely Andrea, another one for my list ha ha, really looking forward to the live on weds, even set my alarm. Can I ask, the southbank you made the other day, is it a rusty gingery colour more on the brown than pink side? Thanks x
That fabric is gorgeous, looks lovely on you will you have anymore ? Can I ask what iron you use, you seem to just shoot a quick bit of steam and it’s done. You make it look very easy. Thanks for the video. X
Thank you , the fabric is on order , hopefully it’ll be back in stock soon again . The iron is a Bosch sensix b25l. I’ve had it for a few years . It’s so good
I made a straight size 12 and it fits nicely . There are some fit issues with the neckline I’ve heard some people have . There are some great fit tutorials on this on the maven pattern website that you might find helpful xx
I love this Andrea and its now on my pattern list. i also like the green one that you are wearing in your intro, the one in the photo you have of you and Cerys, which pattern is that?
Hi Andrea. Hope you had a lovely Christmas.. I’m wanting to make the Sirocco jumpsuit is the jersey fabric your wearing in this video suitable and do you still have some left please. Great sew a long xxx
Hi Chris , I don’t have this one in stock at the moment but it’s on order for January. As long as the fabric you use has the width wise stretch recommended in the pattern it’ll work for the sirocco . Glad you enjoyed the sewalong xx
This is on my to do list. I have a couple of questions please. On the shoulder seam how far away from the neckline do you pivot. Is it 5/8". Secondly when sewing down the neckline using a zig sag, what stitch length and width do you use . Many thanks
Hi Helen. I pivoted at the natural point where the shoulder joins the facing. I used the same zig zag stitch throughout but you could change it to an even length and width.
Great video. Thanks! I have the pattern, but I was just wondering.. the pattern calls for a shoulder stabiliser. It says: "cut 1 pair fusible interfacing". You didn't use it? If it is not necessary for the structure, I am not going to bother with it either. What do you think? (Would love a video that shows the top with the bishop sleeves, btw.) :)
Thank you , no I didn’t use the shoulder stabiliser . I rarely use it on knits . I’ve made a lot of somersets and they’ve worked out perfect without it . Hope you enjoy making yours
Hi Karen , it is a Bosch iron. I had it for years and it was so good. Unfortunately it stopped working not long after I did this video and I bought another iron which is a different brand and not a patch on how good this one was . I’m still looking for another Bosch one , this one is not available any longer
Hello, Andrea. I just ordered the pattern and some fabric for the blouse you are making. How many meters do you use to make the same size top you are making...im the same size. Im also as tall as you are 😃 Thanks I hope to hear from you
Hi Ana, I can usually make one from a metre and cut the sleeves to elbow length which is my fav . Thank you for ordering , I’m sure you’ll love this top as much as I do . 💞
Great top, I have been waiting in anticipation since you mentioned doing a sew along. Did you use the same stitch setting for the zigzag on the hems? I love your tutorials they give me the inspiration to have a go myself x
Made five now and I follow your video for every time thank you❤
That is a superb make Andrea well done.
Such a simple, quick project. I sew just like you do - few pins, I mainly eyeball hems instead of measuring, I even have a similar iron! This was great - thanks!
Sounds just like me.. years of practice Jen!!
Another great video, and sew along .

Ah thanks Jackie. I'm definitely more a visual learner too xx
I love these tops make the one with the bishop sleeve 💗🇦🇺 great tips thank you
I was watching this as I sewed up a knit top. I used your zig zag tip and it worked great! "Double the stitch width for the stitch length". Thanks!
A cool , that was good timing so!!

Andrea, you sure can sew up tops quickly! I love the color, it really looks nice on you!
I’ve made so many of these tops linda, they’re so quick
Thanks Andrea, you’ve got me hooked on the Somerset T now, fits great and sew easy to run up. X
It's great isn't it.. I have made so many and love them all.
That was great and I love the tags ,thankyou Andrea as always !!
Thank you Elaine , the tag is so handy to figure out the front from the back
I sewed it up and ended up with a gaping neckline. For me this was not at all a straight sew, which it should have been regarding it’s not a difficult pattern. Maybe I have to try your tutorial. Thanks 😊
That was great Andrea, thank you so much, what sewing machine are you using?
That came along so quick, and turned out lovely,i will have to check out that pattern. Thank you Andrea.hugs xx Jean.
Thanks Jean , it’s such a quick make without having to do a neckband .

The zig zag worked great, but this is what a coverstitch machine is made for! 😉 However, the zig zag is a good option for those without one.
Yes I love my coverstitch machine finish , definitely my best purchase this year . I just used a zig zag for the purpose of the sewalong.
