I bought a bottle yesterday but haven't had a chance to open it yet. But one thing I do know, if you want legit good Canadian whisky, stay away from the big brands. Instead, look for Shelter Point, Two Brewers or Macaloney's.

Shelter Point does a really nice wheat whiskey but that's the main one I like. Okanagan Spirits does a really nice Single malt that they finish in Rum barrels which gives it a very interesting nose to palate comparison.

I could be wrong about this, but my understanding is that distilleries don't distill liquid fermented from 100% corn, 100% rye, etc. This is because malted barley provides enzymes that are necessary for the fermentation process. I assumed this meant that distilleries fermented grain composed of the mash bill desired for the final whiskey product. Either that or they distill something like 95% corn, 95% rye, etc. with the remainder being malted barley, and those *almost* pure grain distillates are then mixed. I also might have misunderstood what you two were getting at in that conversation.

Not fussy, mixes well but who the heck wants to spend that much on a mixing whisky. The nose is pleasant, packs a punch and that first trip across the taste buds is good but zero finish on it. I lined it up against a single malt scotch and there was no comparison the scotch wins all day

Our whisky!! I love Lot 40 and Canadian Club 45 year! Yup it's worth $350!! This expression isn't bad! I vastly prefer delicious peated single malt scotch! You guys rock!! Terrific video!

Crown is just a hard pass for me. The only Canadian whiskey I like is the premier Rye. Unfortunately I haven't had any Found North which has glowing reviews. Enjoy!!

You would think they would be promoting the fact it was 100% malted barley if that was the case. Seems like it is competing against some decent single malt whisky out there.

@@user-rd7cj9zt7y That is exactly what I’m saying. Not everyone realizes that in the North American market.

Bart Love the shirt. Looks like gorilla? Canadian whiskey always is a suspect, very light. Very pretty. Very easy to drink. No heck of a lot going on, there are some really good . Cheers gentlemen!

I found this to be the worst, thinnest, most uninspired single malt I've ever tasted, a vs b compare it against a glenfiddich 12 or ancnoc 12. And you'll see. Vague sweetness, incredibly thin, no finish. Like everything crown does it leaves lots to be desired. I love the idea, but the execution was awful. Any, and I mean any single malt from anybody else is better than this bottle.
86 is insane, I love you guys but it's more like a 68 for me. I've never been more disappointed with a purchase as this bottle.

@@ScotchTestDummies lol, honestly at the price point here, I'd take any 12 yr old single malt ahead of it. Glenfiddich, glenlivet, ancnoc, hell even tomatin. It's 80 dollars Canadian and I think it's honestly a 40 dollar bottle. Which isn't much more than a regular crown costs in Canada. There's just so many better Canadian distilleries producing much better products than this that deserve more attention.

Literally just tried the Crown SM today and have found this TH-cam review. I more or less agree with the Dummies. I have had better SM scotches, but I have also had quite a few that are worse. This Crown SM is definitely NOT light and fruity. If that is the profile you are looking for, then I can understand somebody being unhappy with this. It is telling about your own tastes that you bring up Speyside SMs to compare with this. The Crown SM is darker and heavier than the typical Speyside.. More like a beefy Highland SM. Predominantly nutty with sweetness that is at best only in the background. I would take this over the Glenfiiddich 12 and anCnoc 12. Cragganmore 12 is far below it.

@@richardbostan4286 we can agree to disagree, I mean I can bring up many highland whiskies as well and it doesn't compare to any of them. Maybe I got a bad bottle because mine was very tepid. There's no beef, no heft, it's there, it pokes you in the side and says "hey look at me!" and then it disappears into the nothingness to sulk alone in a corner in the fetal position. I'm on shift at the moment and won't be home for another week. I'll give it another try. And come revisit this.

So here's the re review of crown single malt
Nose: citrus, green apple, marzipan, left over cereal milk
Palette: Thin, light citrus, boozy, light buttercream
Finish/mouthfeel: watery, thin bit dry on the finish.
Straightforward, not challenging, for the price (90 dollars Canadian) definitely a hard pass. If it was maybe 40-45 dollars it would be somewhat buyable.
Much rather spend the money on a better Canadian product or any scotch single malt.
      75/100
      A, B, C compared with Glengoyne 12(84/100), and Glen Breton 10(82/100)
It just didn't hold up and can't compare to either.
Anyways, love the work you guys do. I just can't get on board with this one. I know what Canada is capable of and this isn't it.
