And Amuro never seemed to get that Bright was easily under as much and arguably more stress than he was. In the original Bright turns around and looks out the door behind him. I took that to be a stark reminder that Bright has no one there to back him up or smack him if he messes up. And Bright had to be terrified. He is in charge of the whole ship and Amuro is the only good pilot they had. (Yes, I disregard Kai, Ryu and Hayato. They'd have been screwed without Amuro)
Bright is an actual soldier and soldier's alike understood him but the people high up in the feds don't care much other than the Gundam. Besides his slaps are a meme few will bother to look further, it's a meme of his slaps being effective 😂.His crew got his back , if you remember the episode of him getting rest because of sickness everyone in the crew did more to help and took command of the ship and even Amuro had to work harder. Bright isn't alone in that regard but he hold the lives of each crew that's what terrifies him, he ask from time to time in the bridge if he made the right decision among his fellow bridge crew.
Are you looking for the original timeline or just gundam in general? For context gundam has alot of alternative timeline shows that are contained by themselves, for example Iron Blooded Orphans doesn't interact nor happen in the original timeline, it's their own thing just with gundam slapped on it.
Newtype pilots come and go, but Bright smacking them around is eternal.
